Mischief Monday - Protesters and Convoys

Dear pals,

We do not want to make our blog political, but some crazy things are happening in Canada, especially in our closest city Ottawa. It made the late night talk show scene so you may have heard about it.

She is home!

Starting the weekend of January 29, thousands of protesters, mainly truckers, arrived to protest the vaccine mandate. To cross both sides of the boarder, truckers need to be double vaxxed. 90% are. While it is complicated and Lady has only scratched the surfaced on it, it has morphed into a total anti-covid restrictions, anti-government, white supremacist mess. (Similar protests are spreading across the country). While many of the original protesters have left, a core has stayed. While Lady is a believer in freedom of speech and assembly, even when it is hard, she has serious concerns about the white supremacist element. It appears, much of the funding for this comes from them. Pro-hate, is not cool. It is continuing indefinitely.

So you may be asking, how does this cause mischief for us? We live outside the city. Well, the problem is Lady has to cross through the downtown area on one of the 5 bridges from Ottawa to Gatineau, several times a week. Due to all that has happening, not all the bridges are open, traffic is a nightmare, and Lady is exposed to the honking and other protesters.

No protestors out here!

After hearing it was taking people over 2 hours just to cross the bridges (many medical personal live in Quebec and work in Ottawa, as it is cheaper on our side of the river), Lady realized she couldn't do this. So on Tuesday evening, she packed up and move to Grammie and the Big Guy's. The live just south of Ottawa, about 40 minutes from her work. She came home Friday night. She left again on Sunday, and will be back Wednesday night. Fortunately, she had planned on having the following week off to hibernate.

She will share one funny moment from her drive home Friday. She felt blessed crossing the bridge only took 30 minutes. Anyway, at one of the corners she saw a protester dressed in an inflatable skeleton dinosaur costume. She got the giggles thinking someone thought, I am going to go to an occupation - hmmm, what should I wear - I know an inflatable Dino suit!

You have to go again?

  1. Here in Scotland we heard about the Ottawa protests on the radio this morning and wondered if you guys were affected. We do hope it all settles down soon and Lady can move back home full time.

It is one thing to go through life with the bigger stuff happening at distance... but sometimes it just spills over and there can be no ignoring the nonsense. Sigh... I do hope commonsense and balance are restored sooner than later. Mainly so you pups can have Lady back full-time on home territory!!! hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  3. we understand the anger of the truckers on one hand... but that everything turns into a hate-party this times is not right...and a protest needs not always violence and damaged gods of others, that is so sad to see d to hear ... we hope the storm calms down and life is good again in canada...

  4. sorry your mama is away so much, and hope this mess will go away soon. I am thinking it will not go quickly. we have seen it on CNN, most of it. so far the mess the US is having is not close to us and effecting us, but your mess and our mess even though it doesn't effect our daily lives like your is, effects every single person on the planet. for instance one small thing is the makeup I use comes from Canada and now there is none anywhere and can't even be ordered from Amazon. I know my makeup doesn't compare to the loss of your lady. hugs

  5. Awful, eh? I laughed hard at your dino suit comment. Probably that same analysis ("What should I wear to a protest?") went into the question, "Should I get a vaccine?".

  7. We've seen the news about the protests and were worried it was causing you problems. It's too bad your Lady has to stay with Grammie and the Big Guy all week just so she can get to work. At least you have your dad to take care of you while she is gone.

  8. We've been hearing about that protest. We think this whole covid thing in general is getting out of hand, and the rules change almost every other day. But there are no easy answers.

  9. We saw lots about this protest on our news here in NJ, USA. It does look like a big mess up there. Your mama was smart to avoid it as best she could. Hang in there, frens. It won't last forever.

  10. I can only shake my head at this protest. I read this morning on line that the truckers are blocking a major bridge between our 2 countries - big sigh. Hopefully this will be over soon and peacefully! Take care and stay safe!!!!!
