 Evening walks are great.

You know what makes them even better?

Sharing them with friends.

Nature Friday - A Frosty Hike

One day, we took the Lady and Man for a walk in Callie's Sugar Bush. They were very good and hardly needed to be on leash.

Come with us on this late fall walk.

Hailey is almost always in the lead

Except when we find some really good smells and maybe some poop

Pretending to not have been eating poop

Pretending there isn't snow out there

Going off the beaten path

Man having to go back on leash because he wouldn't stay on the path

The good thing about a frozen ground is no muddy foot prints

Waiting for slow Lady to catch up

Checking out Callie's new machine

Old dogs can zoom, especially if they are not in the lead

Catching up with Callie by the Sugar Bush

We hope you enjoyed this nature stroll. Thanks to Rosy and Sunny for hosting Nature Friday!

A Healthy Last Summer Hike

 Hi pals,

We haven't been into the sugar bush much this summer. We stopped going when the bugs were so bad, as it is rather swampy in places there and Lady didn't want to get totally eaten alive. Then Lady was away and the sickness came . . . . so on Sunday, we finally got back for a nice morning hike.

The path down to the big path really needs a good clearing but we made it down.

Lady, who has been extremely stressed lately, has been doing a lot of diving into the wellness space. She tells us there is a lot of research on how being in nature reduces stress. She says doctors are actually prescribing time in nature to people now (which makes Lady sad that we have become so disconnected from the world at large as we have been come more connected in so many ways).  The best benefits are in person, away from traffic noise, but just looking at pictures can help reduce stress and increase health. So we present the following as ways to boost your health!

Well we know we felt better after our hike. We are hoping you all feel more relaxed and healthier. We will be sharing more in the bush as the leaves start to change (you may have noticed hits of yellow in some of the pictures).

Earth Day Hike

Lady took us for a hike in the bush behind our house on Saturday to celebrate Earth day. We haven't been back there for awhile (Lee since the fall). Come with us as we explore!

First let's check out the garden

So many great sniffs!

It was snowy and muddy in the back

The icy storm took down lots of branches

Synchronized sniffing

Lee hopped over and someone got stuck. Put the camera down and help!

Hope you enjoyed our stroll!

The Most Beautiful Time of Year?

If you ask Lady what season she likes most, she doesn't know if she could answer you. She thinks she is lucky to live somewhere with 4 distinct seasons. Each season has things she loves and things she hates. Winter has sparkling beauty, holiday cheer and it has too cold weather and terrible driving conditions. Spring has longer days, the return of green and it has too many bugs that bite. Summer brings long lazy days, time at the lake and too much heat. Fall brings cozy sweaters, bright colours,  the smell of decay, and it brings shortening days and so much to do.

However, when she reflects on what season is the prettiest, she thinks fall. Her hope is to take us hiking in Callie's forest, at least once a week to enjoy the colours while they last. Last Saturday was our first walk. Come along with us!

The blue line is the tube that will collect sap in the spring which will be turned into maple syrup.

Too much to see and smell to sit and pose for a picture!

The only wildlife we saw was this red squirrel, who yelled at us and we barked at! He didn't care, he
didn't move.

We hope you enjoyed this stroll through early fall.

A Birthday Hike

Lady asked for a birthday hike and we were more than happy to oblige her!

We hopped in the car, sniffing our way there!

We were concerned it could be the vet we were going to.

We were excited to see a dogs welcomed sign!

We looked at the map to think about where we wanted to go. Lady is now old, so maybe we should stick to the green 'easy' trails.

We were at Nakkertok - a park about 10 minutes from our house for hiking,  cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Lady and Man hiked here in the winter but we had never been.

We waited patiently near the entrance as Lady dropped our poops in the garbage (at least we got them out before we got on the trails!)

A hiking we went!

Always remember to look up friends!

So much to sniff!

Pause for a picture

Stop with the pictures, let's go!

Lady couldn't always keep up!

Stream water!

This had us alarmed! It was before a very, very steep hill!

Not a bad walk for a bunch of oldies! It was very mucky in places and steep in places and we pulled a lot! There were no other people around (in spite seeing a few cars in the parking lot), the bugs weren't bad and there was so much to sniff! We hope to get to go back soon!
