FFF - Nature Friday - Celebrate

Today we join our dear friend Aunty-Yam for her FFF and her birthday. We send her the warmest wishes for this very special birthday, spent in a very special place for her.

We also join Rosy and the Boyz for Nature Friday.

The book we used this month is The Lost World by Arthur Conan Doyle.

Words:
line 8 - eyes
line 12 - world
line 16 -stands

On my drive to work the other day
In the field before the hay
has had time to grow as spring arrives
what did I spy with my little eye?
but a pair of sweet young deer
standing looking at me without fear
I had entered their world, I know it is not mine,
but I am glad we shared it that day while the sun shined.

------------------------

The deer are back! The move to higher ground for the winter, but in the past few weeks have been seen almost daily in the yard or around the house. Sometimes we see as many as 9 at once.  Phod has to go out on leash as he will chase them. We haven't seen any new fawns yet. We hope they will appear soon!

Contest Update 5

Welcome to your weekly edition of when will the snow be gone.

Let's take a look at how the yard looks today! (Pictures taken last evening around 5:45)

The road is clear! Lady is getting her snow tires off today as we have been a week without new snow.

Still a little bit of snow near where that silly truck got stuck.

Look grass mud!

Only a little bit of snow in the front

And a little bit in the back!

While it is almost gone and has been going quickly, we are sorry that Rosy and the Boyz, Abby, Kinley and HiC missed the date!  Thanks for playing dear friends!

Mischief Monday - Sing Along with Us

We held a sing along over the weekend. The following went on for some time. No one is sure what or who started it. We aren't near any of the doors or windows so we didn't see anything.  Lady captured only a little of it. It looks like we are about to stop in the video, but don't worry, we kept going!

Did you do any extra singing over the holiday weekend?

Happy Easter!

"Oh, no, it is time to pay the hat tax."
(Editor's Note: For the costs our beloved dogs incur without contributing financially to the household, several times per year, usually around holidays, they are required to pay the hat tax.)

"Look super cute and it will be over soon and you will get lots and lots of treats."

Cousin Emma: "I am always really, really cute."

A holiday miracle, I captured all 3 dogs in one shot wearing the hats. That is the best gift!

"Hmmm, is it time for the treats in the eggs?"

From our house to yours, however you celebrate it, we wish you all a very Happy Easter.

Contest Update 4

Good Friday everyone!

The weather this week has been warm and rainy. So rainy that roads were flooded on Monday and they expect more flooding this weekend. While this may be bad news for us, it may be good news for those with upcoming dates.

Here are our guesses for the rest of the month:

April 20 – Rosy, Arty and Jakey
April 21 – Abby
April 23 – Kinley
April 25 - HiC
April 26 - Yamini
April 27– Millie and Walter
April 28 – Lightning, Timber and Misty

Here are pictures of the yard from last night when Lady pulled in from being out of town for 2 days. She was too lazy to get out of the car, so they aren't the best quality, but they do capture the fact that while you could walk on the yard without snowshoes, there is still a lot of snow.

That grass like blob is the dead grass that grows over our well.

We are getting much closer!

Will the snow last until May or will it be gone next week???

Stay tuned to find out!

Sitting on Lady

No matter what chair I sit in, Lee often wants to share with me.

Tomorrow will be our contest update as Lady is currently on the road for work and unable to take pictures.

Mischief Monday - Bored - by Lee

Dear Pals,

It has been life in the slow lane here in rural Quebec. While the weather is slowly improving and the snow is melting (although as I write this on Sunday there is snow falling . . .), and it is light in the morning during our walks,  and the ceiling is not leaking any more, it is boring.

Lady has been far too busy with work. She is working 6 days a week. Short story, the government had cancelled the funding many of the families she works with were getting (she works with individuals with autism and related disorder) and then they reinstated the program for another 6 months. Now Lady has to last minute put together these huge (like 30 page) reports for all the kids (like 20), plus do her regular clinical work. She would have started them all earlier if she had known she was going to have to do them, but when the government said she didn't, she believed them. Anyway, she is crazy busy and maybe a little cranky (but don't tell her I said that). She is making sure we are getting walked and fed and loved. She says to tell you she is sorry for not having visited as often as she would have liked, but she knows you all understand. It is just a season that will hopefully pass soon.

In the mean time, I am bored. I will keep being bored.

Nature Friday - Attack of the Birds

After last weeks turkey leg removal, Lady was not thrilled when last Wednesday, when she was working at home all day and the Man was at work and then going out to the Kiss concert that a silly bird made it into the fireplace.

As she stopped taping before the end, know it ended happily with the bird finding the open patio door and flying away. She did not have to pick up a dead bird!

She is hoping next week's Nature Friday will be about something other than birds lol!

Contest Update 3

Dogs Lady and Man saw when they went out for breakfast last weekend

Hello friends! Here is our weekly snow updated. We are sad to say that on Phenny and Nelly's guess day, the 9th, we got another 5 inches of snow. (You can imagine the HBO words we heard, our poor ears).  While this was melting a little yesterday when Lady was preparing it, it is clear that Just Mags, Chester and Matilda are not going to win the contest. Thanks for participating dear friends.

This is how the yard looked yesterday afternoon around 3 pm.

Still way too much snow. However, right next to the house, spring is starting to come, as you can see from the buds of this plant.

Our next guess isn't until April 20th, but we will give you all an update on Good Friday (as won't be home to take a picture next Wednesday)

If you have sun, please send it our way!

Mischief Monday - When It Rains Inside

The scene: The warmed day in months, we are all having a Saturday afternoon bed nap.

Lady is awoken to the words "get a bucket, the roof is leaking" and it all went down hill from there. There were a LOT of HBO words. A LOT! This cannot be understated. Lady is not a crier but she has a mouth that would make a sailor blush.

After the buckets were in place, as the Man raced to the neighbours to see if anyone was home to borrow a ladder long enough to reach the roof (no one was), Lady started looking for roofers. (FYI: A long ladder has been ordered and will be here on Tuesday). 1.5 hours after it began, a roofer was on the very snowy roof.

The short story: Given how much snow is up there, the exact amount of damage is unclear. The roof itself is in good shape. The problem is with some joints and the V part. The building inspector missed this. The roofer (who looks 12 by the way, but seems to know his stuff) needs to wait for the snow to melt to come back with a drone (welcome to the 21st century) to do a full inspection and measurements. Basically we need to fix these joints and put in something called flat roof in the V. Once the roof is fixed, they can take on having the bedroom ceiling repaired. This is going to be expensive. Thank goodness for the emergency fund!

The damage in the ceiling. There is also a crack in the wall over the door.
In the meantime, the roofer left a long ladder and Lady and Man have had the opportunity to shovel snow off the roof. Lady is proud of herself for getting up (she listed off all the brave things she has ever done, the list is short but includes skydive, zip line, bobsled, climb a pyramid as she went up). Getting down was really not pretty but due to the danger of it, there is no video so she can pretend it was graceful.

The view up there is amazing. Lady suggested we put a deck up there.

Let's hope the snow melts sooner rather than later so at least we don't have to keep buckets in the bedroom and the leaking stops. (The leaking occurred from about 2:30 pm-9 pm on Saturday. At the time of this writing there had been no more leaks, but it is colder today and melting may not be happening)

Contest Update 2

Welcome to this week's when will the snow be gone contest update!

Snow be gone, I have a tan to work on!

Here are the guesses for next week.

April 9 – Phenny and Nelly
April 10 – Just Mags
April 12 – C.L.W. Step (aka Chester)
April 13 – Matilda

Here is the yard as of noon yesterday.

It isn't much but you can see the grass/garden beside the house

You can smell some spring in the air

Even though the snow is still out, Precious made her debut on Monday for Phod's birthday.

Well, we don't like to be too negative but unless we get a miracle, we don't think the first 4 entries are going to win. Unfortunately, we did get a couple new inches last weekend so instead of going we added. I guess this is what happens when you live north of the wall!

Come back next Thursday to see if any more snow is gone.  The rain in the forecast may help some.

Happy 8ishth Birthday Dear Zaphod!

We don't know when he was born or exactly how old he is (the joys of being a stray), but today is the day we celebrate Zaphod who is 8ish.

We had a weekend of indoor celebrations as the snow and freezing rain were not pleasant.

Here is his official birthday portrait.

To celebrate I made some bake-a-bone cookies using some leftover human pork.  They were a big hit (which is good because they will be eating them all week!)

Happy birthday to our sweet suck-a-bear, may we celebrate many more together!
