Nature Friday - Neighbours - by Styx

 Hi friends, hi friends, hi friends,

Today is the next guess in my snow contest. Since the day is not over, I am delaying my report on it. I will update you on my mischief Monday post. The suspense, the suspense, the suspense! I will say it has been a rainy, rainy, rainy week. Lady didn't even go out and do all her walks because it was raining so hard. There were rainfall warnings. There can be flooding this time of year.  Will this help the snow go away faster, faster, faster?

Lanie mentioned it yesterday, but we had a scary, scary event on Tuesday around 12:40. We were all just going about our days when there was a loud noise like an explosion and then the house rumbled and shook and it shook a little harder and then it stopped.  Lady was in a meeting and because Man was home, he went and checked everything. All was good, we were just a little shaken. The news says it was a 3.9,  That sounds big to me but Lady says it is no and I don't need to worry until it is 6 or more. 

Now on to our neighbours. The snow is going away because we are seeing a lot of our favourite neighbours, the deer! Lady say 12 on a walk one day, 12. I don't know if I can count that high. We see them in our yard a lot. I like to watch them through the window.

Lanie's Log - Adventures Continue

 t has been 177 days since my capture. I have resigned my fate and am actually becoming a house cat. The Wardens haven't captured pictures of all the new things. Here is what happened this week. I love playing laser pointer, maybe more than I love ball. I spent time in the window while Lady Warden worked in her office, usually I leave right away, but I stayed an hour. I have been spotted sleeping on the Lady Warden's desk when she is not there and in the Wardens' bedroom when they are not there. I am out and about more, looking far more relaxed and confident, although I always return to my tree in my cell, especially after I am scared (like when we had an earthquake on Tuesday - it was a 3.9). 

As my privacy continues to be limited, some of my private moments were captured, so I might as well share them.

Styx and I were caught sleeping in my cell tree together. 

Lady Warden caught me nipping out one morning upstairs after breakfast. 

I sat on the day bed beside Lady Warden for treats and Gris stared at me and hissed. She is coming around though, slowly, slowly, slowly.  Sometimes I just sleep on the daybed. It is comfy. 

I want to eat with the other prisoners at breakfast. Look how close Gris and I are, because I jump into the food, and Gris is on a special food to help with her weight, so the Wardens have to get mine down fast so there is no stealing.

So that is life coming up to 6 months in the big house. I guess I might as well accept I am doing life.

Tuesdays with Tigris - What's In A Name?

Reader,

I am not sure why they Lady gives us names, because she so rarely uses them. 

Take me for example. When I arrived one year ago I was Lilo and Lady and Man changed it to Tigris. Currently, I am most often called Gris or Grissie, which makes sense as nicknames, but it doesn't stop there. I am also Grismas, BG (big girl), GrisGris, and Miss Gris. When Lady is being formal I am Tigris Blue Buttar. Blue, for my grey colour that looks blue and Buttar after a Canadian Bull Rider and because I am round.

Styx, who was Stitch, is Styx, Styxy, and Styximus Maximus (which Lady makes Max). He has the least names.

The cat whom I don't like is Jack-O-Lanie, Lanie, Little One, Lambie, or Scoot-scoot. When Lady is being really silly she called her Little Lanie Lambie Leme (Leme is also a bull rider, Lady has a theme).

It has only been a year, I am sure she will come up with new names (which may be better than the little songs she makes up about us and sings).

Happy Belated Gotcha Day

 Yesterday we celebrated 1 year with Tigris and Styx. It is hard to believe it has been one year already. They arrived between the loss of Hailey and Zaphod, and while our hearts still ache, it would have been impossible to survive that 6 week period without them. They bring us joy, laughter and love.

Nature Friday - Contest Week 2

Hi friends, hi friends, hi friends. 

It is the second check in for my contest. I am so excited to host this, so excited. Let's look at our yard.

The first picture was taken April 7, 2026, at about 5:45 pm. Lady left us for a walk (mean Lady). 

There was still snow in the front. There was still snow in the front the next day. 

There is still a lot of snow in the side yard and back too. Too much snow, too much snow!  I will try and make Lady take pictures of those next week. Sorry Fay, you didn't win this year (and neither did we because we still have so much snow). 

 

Come back next week and maybe we will have more pictures of nature as the deer are around and the birds are back and spring is in the air, if not on the ground.

Lanie's Log - Exploring the Prison More

 It has been 170 days since my capture. I continue to explore the prison outside my cell. I am exploring upstairs more and this has the Lady Warden, very excited. She clearly needs a life.

Lady Warden likes to take all the pictures of me - sigh. Here are some.

Me upstairs for breakfast. I followed my BFF Styx upstairs. Lady Warden is happy with my relaxed body language. 

Needs a life Lady Warden was very excited that I ate some treats before breakfast one morning. It is the first time I ate treats upstairs. 

Lady Warden was thrilled to capture me sitting in this chair. She often finds me here when she gets up in the morning. 

If this wasn't all annoying enough, Lady Warden is obsessed with my one white toe. She goes on and one about how cute it is. So annoying. 

The Wardens say I continue to do well. I hated the generator, but otherwise am trying to make this house my home. It would be a little easier, if Gris wasn't so mean. Maybe we can become friends yet.

Tuesdays with Tigris - Living Life

 Reader,

I am living my life here. I have some good routines. I climb on my people to wake them up. I eat my food. I have a nap on the table. I then move to another of my favourite sleeping places. If given the chance, I smack Lanie. I like to sleep on the foot of the bed at night to keep my people safe.

One of my routine places to sleep, when the people are downstairs watching TV, so I can be as far from Lanie as possible, but still watch the people, is upstairs outside the bedroom. I have accidentally pulled the quilt rack over and it needs to be put together, so currently I just have a quilt, which is fine. I pulled it over, trying to pull the quilt down more.

Sometimes I get lucky, and Lady leaves the warm laundry and I can sit in it. 

I guess I am lucky to have so many places to sit.

Mischief Monday - Outtakes and Other Complaints - by Styxy

 Hi friends, hi friends, hi friends,

The mischief this week was really people caused. People make a lot of mischief, more than us animals I think. So much more!

The first mischief of the weekend is on Friday the people left us at 9:30 am and only came back at 1 am. We were alone forever and ever and ever and we didn't think they were ever coming back. Bad, bad people. Dinner was very, very late. Bad people.  Out doing things! First apparently they had family Easter lunch, then they went and saw cousin Emma and Uncle Chris, who they had just seen at family Easter, and hung out before going to hear live music. I am not a dog fan, but I am thinking if the people got a dog, they would not do bad things like this.

Next on Sunday, for no reason, our power was out. The lights disappear. It seems in April we have an outage Lady says. This was a weird one because no extreme weather and only 59 places affected. So weird, so mischiefy. Lanie really didn't like the generator sound and she hid. Gris and I went about our business.  I tried calling to Lanie, but she didn't want to come out. 

The last mischief for today, is the hat tax outtakes. Lady and her love of hat tax is not good, not good, not good. Lady says it brings joy to others. It does not bring joy to us. We hate it! Lanie is the most cooperative, then Gris, she is pretty cooperative, and I Styxy, do my best to resist. Lady says CRA (Canada IRS) will come after me if I don't cooperate. I don't think the treats are enough of a balance.

Nature Friday - Goodbye Snow, Goodbye, Contest Update

 Hi friends, hi friends, hi friends,

I am so excited. I am the most excited Styx because it is my first contest check in. 

Here is the updated list of the guess. Styxy had made a mistake, (sorry Walter, sorry!) but he fixed it. Our first guess won't be until April 7. Will we still have snow?

See we still have snow. A lot of snow. We are supposed to get a lot of rain. Lady has booked to the tire changes so she thinks more snow will come soon.

Lanie's Log - -

 It has been 163 days since my capture. This week was a lot like the others, minus being confined to my cell with Tigris and Styx, as Styx mentioned on Monday.  I didn't want to be in my room after this incident for a day or so, but I got over it and got back to routine.

I have only not come up for breakfast one morning since I started this routine a couple of weeks ago. Somedays Lady Warden can put my food near Styxy and Grumpy Gris, and somedays, I am a little jumpier and this is too close.  I am still very jumpy when I am out of my cell. Man Warden calls me "scoot scoot" because I run between places.

Lady Warden says I am not making any friends with Grumpy Gris by eating her food (which is the same as mine, but has soft food that I won't eat if the people put it on my dish).

I will also eat out of Styx's bowl. 

As mentioned I do love to be brushed, and this picture was taken from a video the Lady Warden made. She says it is the happiest I have ever looked. I will have to work on looking more displeased. 

While things continue ok, I am resigned to this life, the challenges remain. A big one being a new holiday hat tax. Here is just a tiny peak at the torture that is to come.
