Mischief Monday - The Dreaded V-E-T - by Phod

 Dear pals,

Last week, I had a terrible, horrible day, that I think was uncalled for. Apparently I was due for a check up in July but because of the pandemic I could only go now.

I knew as soon as Lady took me to the garage alone and told me I was to get in the car, no good would come of this.  I tried to hide but Lady made me get out and try again.

I got my revenge by throwing up in the car.  When we arrived I knew exactly where I was and I gave Lady the stink eye.

Lady had told me I was going to have to be brave and go in alone. However, when she called for check in, she was happily surprised to learn that one person per pet could come in. I was very happy to hear this. Lady completed her screening and we met the tech at the door. I was escorted to the scale where I was most uncooperative but they finally got my weight. I am 80lbs, up 3lbs from last year (perhaps the extra treat or it is past swimming season and I no longer have my beach body). At any rate, it was never brought up as a problem so it doesn't matter.

After the horror of the scale I was escorted to my room. I was not seeing my regular vet, but he popped in to yell at Lady for not calling him and he would have worked us in say hi. The new vet came in. She was nice, but I didn't like her treats. She did say I was good and handsome and she really liked my name, even if she kept saying it wrong.  She said I was healthy. She she squirted stuff in my mouth and stuck a needle near my hip, so I don't know if we really are friends, even if she let me be right next to my Lady so they weren't 6 feet apart (but they had PPE and Lady turned her head when the vet had to be close because I was almost trying to get on Lady's lap). She gave me some pain meds for days I feel stiff. Then it was over and I had to wait in my room forever for the paperwork and meds.

Finally Lady paid (all in the room to reduce contact with other) and we came home.

Overall, I would say it was terrible and I was a little mad at Lady, but after about 10 minutes of being home, I curled up beside her and forgave her.

So that was my horrible day and I hope I don't have to go back for a year.

  1. Phod we agree... never take the treats, there is something inside to read our minds... we are glad you escaped from that place and now a whole year of going NOT to that place is in front of you... but good that at least one person can come in now at your place. we hope that will happen here too otherwise we are only allowed to come if it rains upwards LOL

Crikey, matey-dog, that was horrendous reading - what a trauma you clearly had to endure. Thank goodness for your big heart and short memory though, and Lady did not have to suffer (what would have been within your rights) the cold tail treatment! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  3. BOL Phod normally revenge is at the end but you set new standards getting revenge early. Dear Sweet Phod...it sounds 87% like a nightmare..what was Lady (not) thinking to do such a horrible thing to you her constant companion and devoted friend!!

  4. Going to the vet is never fun but being able to have Lady by your side makes it so much better.

  5. My poor sweet p h o d. I am so sorry you had to be tortured with a visit to the veterinarian. And that you had to see a new one. I can tell you that all six of our dogs have never taken the treats that the Vets try to give them. That means you did the right thing even though big boy and Beau don't mind going to the vet and they're always really really good they would not take the treats either. Our first dog that looks like you. Named Max oh, bit the Vets wife on the knee. It was her first day on the job and she did not know that she could not just open a door that had dog's closed inside and step in without looking. We never saw her again. At least you didn't bite anybody did you?

  6. At least you had a nice vet who recognized how handsome and wonderful you are!

  7. So sorry for your bad day, Phod. My ghostwriter has been hinting that I haven't been in to see Miss Jacquie the groomer in way too long and that I look like a floppy-moppy! The vet has also been sending us papers asking us to come in and see him for some kind of test. (That doesn't sound good.)

Well, in the meantime, let's forget about the vet and the groomer, and go outside and enjoy what little is left of Fall!

  8. Phod, you don't know how lucky you are that Lady was allowed in with you to the vet surgery. Gail has to stand in the car park. (As the vet is only a quarter of a mile a way, she always walks me there, so she doesn't have the car to sit in).
By the way, we are wondering how anyone could mispronounce the name Phod!

  9. Oh Phoddy, we are sorry you had to go through this. We are echo-ing Bertie, as Mama hasn't been allowed to go in with us either. We also hope you don't have to go back for another year!

  10. It's never fun, is it,Phod? But at least it is over for another year. Mom was so happy now that we have switched clinics to the one where our favorite vet moved. At the old one, Mom never got to "see" the vet, only phone conversations. At out new place, our beloved vet actually comes to the car and talks to Mom. What a difference that makes!!! We hope that soon we will all be able to go inside together. Here's to big changes for the better in 2021!!!

  13. Oh how lucky you are to have had the Lady in there with you! Ma isn't allowed in at all, and I am gonna have to go within the next few weeks. I am super duper happy that all is well, and you puked in the truck to show your displeasure in goin' to the vettie. High paw for that one dude!

  14. It sounds like a pretty good visit, all things considered. Glad you're in good shape and hope the meds help you on those stiff days. We have a couple of annuals coming up next month and have our paws crossed ours are as simple as yours sounded.

  15. Oh blerg, P. What an awful day for you. Thank goodness they didn't make a thing of your weight. You would end up on treat restriction, like me! We think you are sweet to be so forgiving.

    Love and licks,
