Mischief Monday - Storms

While on the 19th we talked about how the Lady went out for zip lining  but we didn't talk about the mischief this caused.

A short storm rolled in while the people were out. As she was alone, Hailey was forced to do the following:

It appears she tried to dig her way into the guest room. When asked about it, she was too busy stretching to answer.

This past weekend was also hard for our girl. There was a combination of thunderstorms and fireworks as it was a national holiday in our province. She did better with the fireworks, but with the thunder she hid in the basement between the washer and drier and

when she felt brave came up to be with us in the kitchen. Notice how far her little tail is tucked up. She was shaking so badly and refused to eat her dinner. She remains on her prozac, but I am not sure if it is helping (although I am terrified to think of what she would be like without it).

What makes this worse is she has shared her fear of storms with Phod. He is now nervous during them. The other night I awoke to 75lb Shepherd laying on top of me. It is going to be a long summer!

  2. Oh dear Hailey, please try not to be so anxious. We wish we could offer some constructive suggestions, but we can at least send love and hugs and hope the thunderstorms pass quickly.

  4. I'm so glad none of my collies are afraid of thunder or fireworks. It's so heartbreaking to see dogs so frightened. Does a thunder shirt help her at all?

  9. Angel Joey dog was afraid of fireworks and thunder. Our humans used to turn the TV on real loud and it helped. Oh, and yesterday we had some absolutely crazy weather too. One minute it was sunny and clear, the next, it was pouring rain. We did see an amazing sunset, and some places had rainbows too.

  10. Oh my gosh, poor Hailey! Sampson suddenly developed a fear of noise, and I use Composure by Vetriscience (the Pro Line) which I get through my vet. I personally love storms, but we had this one where the thunder clapped directly over my house. It was SO loud, that I actually jumped, and Sampson never moved. I highly recommend it.

  13. Oh dear...I sure hope you all can get things calmed down a bit there. Thunderstorms can really do a number on some of us pets.

  14. Oh no! And now Phoddy is nervous about why Lee is nervous which might be a vicious circle. Hoping this can somehow improve.

  16. We are not looking forward to our 4th of July. The fireworks don't bother Hazel but Mabel will probably bark. they used to drive Bailey crazy but in the last few years he no longer cared

  17. Oh noes! I'm so sorry guys. I knows this can be super duper scary. Ma had an Irish terrier that hated the doorbell (or knocking of any kind of the front door!) ...Halloween was a nightmare! I sure hopes something can help....margaritas maybe???? ☺

  20. Poor Hailey - you can see the fear and worry on her face. Ciara was like that too but her anxiety usually ended with a seizure. We hope the summer treats you well with few, if any, bad thunderstorms.

  21. Oh so sorry for the pups' distress. Fireworks never bothered Sam until the lat couple of years. Now I have to dose him with lavender and CBD oil so he doesn't wig out. Paws crossed storms aren't so bad as to have doorways losing their shape.

  22. Have you tried the frankincense essential oil? A few drops rubbed on my hands and then rubbed on Abby's head and around her neck and ears really calms her down. She doesn't LIKE thunderstorms but doesn't shake any more and will leave the closet if it's a small one without a lot of lightning.

  23. We're so sorry to hear Hailey is still having trouble with the loud noises and that Phod is now having some trouble too. We are crossing our paws that you have as quiet a summer as possible.
