Our Hanukkah Celebration

First, I should remind everyone we are not Jewish, but we celebrate Hanukkah (we aren't really Christian and we celebrate Christmas - we see it the same). It started over a decade ago as a "theme" party over the holidays (to do something different) and has grown into a true celebration. We have Hanukkah dishes, decorations, books, music and toys.  We eat a brisket type dish, latkes (one of my favourite foods in the world),  green beans with peppers and pine nuts and donuts. This year Man did up some deep fried Brussel Sprouts. Those are a new favourite.

This year is an extra special Hanukkah because it was my niece Maggie's first Hanukkah. Maggie and I are exchanging 8 crazy nights of Hanukkah gifts (plus she will get some Christmas gifts from us too - she may be a little spoiled). We opened the first one early on the weekend (because Hanukkah started on Tuesday night and with everyone else's holiday schedule we decided to have it the weekend before). We will open the rest on the correct night.

Hanukkah is probably my favourite holiday of the year.

Here are a couple of my favourite pictures.

  5. We think it's a splendid idea that you celebrate both! Maggie looks like she's having a great time and is a real cutie pie. Nothing wrong with spoiling her a little here and there.

You two look mighty dashing in your blue bandanas.

  21. You need a Mensch On A Bench to celebrate Hanukkah. Why the guy who invented it lives in my city and he was on the show Shark Tank last week and sold it for losts of green papers. Lookin good in your blue. Phod did you ever find your favorite ball that you left in the woods?
    Thanks for being a friend

  25. A friend who is Jewish sent out this prayer. I will pass it on. I think it's lovely:

We have arrived together to chase away the darkness that surrounds us
each of us in our hands has a light from our internal flame
each of us alone and by ourselves are a small but bright light
but when we join together with purpose we are a powerful and towering light
that illuminates a path through the opaqueness and uncertainty ahead
so the darkness will flee from the faces of our radiant lights

    Enjoy!
