Hailey Bug January 13, 2010-March 14, 2025
Peacefully, surrounded by love, Hailey crossed to the rainbow bridge yesterday. While her neurological conditions let us know this was coming, we were not prepared for how sudden the decline was. Thursday, she had a fine day with the longest walk she had in weeks. The evening she started to indicate she was not well and by the morning, she told us it was time to let her go.
Rescued from a high-kill shelter at 3 weeks old in Ohio, Hailey lived in multiple foster homes in the US and Canada before finding her way to our home and hearts. While our love for Hailey was limitless, she was not an easy dog. There are many stories on this blog to show how challenging she could be. Besides the anxiety (which resulted in 2 holes in the wall and more destruction than one can count), she was a free spirit. She wanted to do what she wanted. When given the chance she would run free, without a care in the world. While I, the Lady, spent countless hours walking with her, and training, she never listed to me the way she listened to Man (which wasn't perfect, more slightly better). She clearly knew she was the alpha in our pack.
She would like to be remembered as a fierce hunter, as that one time she got the groundhog. She tried many, many times to get other animals. Once, even trying to climb a tree. In her dreams she was always chasing something. I hope she caught them all.
In spite of the challenges and the repeated lesson in patience we got living with Hailey, she was also a wonderful dog. She was smart, too smart, and playful. She could be very loving. She tolerated the hat tax well. Perhaps her greatest gift to us is the connections we have made with many of you reading this post today. You are people we would have never had an opportunity to know in this vast world, if not for our shared love of our pets. For that, I will be eternally grateful. We feel the love with a capital L from all of you, and we know you share our grief, as we have shared yours.
In Hailey's memory, take some time to sniff the air, give someone a belly rub, and find joy. She could always find joy.
If you have a favourite Hailey memory, we would love to hear it.
The heartbroken, Lady, Man and Zaphod

Dear Kristen/Lady, Man/Drew and Zaphod/PHOD
ReplyDeleteBryan and I are so very sorry to read that Hailey/Lee has her angel wings…bless her sweet heart and yours, Drew’s and Phod’s. Hailey was a PRINCESS Warrior who lived A LIFE FULL OF LOVE AND DEVOTION.
I have fond memories of meeting Hailey and her pack in 2016. She was so eager to meet all her new friends. Once she met us she was took on the role as Protector of her new Pack.
When we were gathered at the the picnic shelter at Brown State Park, she was 100% on top Cop of the shelter any person who dare near us she barked out her rank and told them to keep their distance from her pack. I have a few photos from 2016 that I hope to post on POTP too
OUR SINCERE SYMPATHY
Cecilia AND Bryan
Our hearts are shattered for you. We loved Hailey and we are going to miss her dearly. Hugs to you and the Man and Phod, Lady♥

ReplyDeleteI too remember fondly getting to meet Hailey (and Zaphod) in the furs at the BAR in 2016, and have always enjoyed how she made sure you got your exercise by 'going bush' on a regular basis! She was definitely her own dog and could not have landed on all fours any better than in your home in the forest. She will be missed by us all, but not nearly as much as by you, her furever pack. Sending out 87 gazzilion ether hugs wrapped in that capital 'ell'.
Farewell and RIP dear Hailey - hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
So sorry for the loss of your beautiful girl. XO
ReplyDeleteThat's so very sad and I'm so very sorry your sweetie had to depart for the Rainbow Bridge. Love and hugs from all of us.
ReplyDeleteMy heart is hurting with yours, we all loved you Hailey, and will miss you lots. I hurt for Phod, he will be so sad his sister is gone. You were well loved and well cared for in your Furever home, prayers and hugs to Lady and Man and Phod
ReplyDeleteWe're so sad to see this news about Hailey. There isn't any one story about here that we can think of but we just loved her independent spirit. Millie has always considered Hailey a sister from another mister as they looked so much alike. She will be missed by all. Our paws are crossed and we send warm hugs to Phod, the Lady and the Man.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know Hailey but she sounds like a couple of cats I've had over the years: not easy to live with, but worth it. And you gave her the home many would not have: fifteen years of happiness and love. Godspeed, Hailey.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for your loss. No matter if we are prepared for it or not, it is extremely hard. Hugs to you both and Phod.
ReplyDeleteWe send kind thoughts to you for good memories of Hailey.
ReplyDeleteMy heart breaks for you. I know how much Hailey meant to you, and how much joy she brought to all of us who followed their exploits. Condolences to you, The Man, and Phod.
ReplyDeleteSo many memories of her and the Blogville gang - always bringing a smile. She will be missed to a lot of people, not just her family. LB Johnson Sunny, and Angels Lorelei, Abby Lab, and Barkley.
ReplyDeleteFarewell to your beautiful girl ...
ReplyDeleteI'm so very sorry for the loss of your beautiful Hailey.
ReplyDeletePlease accept my condolences for your loss. You gave Hailey a beautiful life.
ReplyDeleteHailey lived a very long and happy life but somehow it's just never long enough. I'm so very sorry for your loss. My deepest condolences to you and your family along with hugs. Hailey, run young and free again with all the groundhogs in the meadows beyond the Rainbow.
ReplyDeleteEven though we were all expecting the sad news, we were hoping for more time for you and for Hailey. But she did it her way. It sounds like she had a good day out for her walks and then was ready. Sadly grief is the price we pay for having a life to love - to paraphrase. But it is that love that moves us forward to one day enjoying the many memories her life with you has left. Soft woos and gentle hugs from all of us. Extra hugs to Phod as we are sure he is missing her so much too.
ReplyDeleteWoos - Misty, Timber, and Mom
We are so sorry for your loss. What a beautiful girl Hailey was, and what a wonderful life she had with you. Thank you for loving her so much, and for sharing her with the world.
ReplyDeleteAwww, this made me so sad. I'm so sorry for this hard loss. She sure was a pretty gal! Now a beautiful angel.
