A Play Date

On Labour Day, I set up a play date with the dogs. Taking the dogs into the city is always a big production because of Phod's car sickness. We have to plan it the night before to give him his drugs, and not feed him in the morning. I feel bad that he can't do it more, but it is our reality.

Our play date was with a friend's 8 year old, rescued, Cocker Spaniel/Lab mix, Huey.
Phod meeting Huey

We drove into town and met them at one of the big dog parks, Bruce Pit. Cousin Emma and Uncle Chris met us too.  My friend has a 6 year old and an 8 year old. Hailey barked at them for a second and was then fine. She was also amazing when a toddler came over to her. She just ignored him.

We walked around for about an hour. The pups were all good. Hailey did chase a few squirrels, but came back. Zaphod sat in the one puddle in the park. Huey tried to hump everyone. Just normal dog stuff.

Happy pups!

Then we were invited back to my friend's house. Hailey and Zaphod have not had the opportunity to visit other places that our little dogs did. Bigger dogs, and dogs like Hailey are more of an imposition. It was only the second house other than ours that we had taken Phod too. My friend has a fully fenced yard, and because it was a nice day, we stayed outside. The dogs were amazing. They just pupped around and Phod kept trying to go into the house. It was funny that Huey didn't try and hump everyone at the house.

Overall, it was great and we would do it again!

  5. That is a great day spent with friends. When Bert brings his pack to my house it is totally FUN. Bert's momma always goes in the house and brings out all my stuffies. Glad it was a great time for everyone.

  6. I love playdates. Mom always gets anxious when I go into someone else's house. She is always afraid dat I will decide to marks something (like a chair leg/indoor plant). I guess she has cause to worry as I've got a history of markin in other dogs home. She prefers to have me play outside.

Wow Hailey…. you are really, really tall when you stand up on your back legs. And wow…. dos are really nice long leg. I hope you'll forgive me for pickin Daisy to go wiff me to Oktoberfest and still be my friend.

  14. Looks like everyone had a great time. Our Thunder used to get carsick. It started when he was a pup, but continued on longer then it should have as he became an adult. Someone suggested to me that it could be the result of him being anxious due to the car's movement. They suggested that one of us sit with him in the back seat while the other drove. After a some trips it went away. Completely. We still do not feed him for about 2 hours before and one after a car ride, but that is a precaution because he has not really had recent issues.
