The New Deck

 Hi pals,

Lady and Man have slowly been putting stuff on the new deck so they can use it a lot this s summer. They say if they are going to pay 87 million dollars for something, they are going to use it.

Sometimes they are very rude and don't take us out with them and sometimes they do let us out, with limits.

As there is no gat at the far end around the house (maybe some day)

they are using a table and stool to build a barrier to keep us in the small part.

Apparently we were annoying wanting to be out and then wanting to be in and then wanting to be out and then wanting to be in, so,

because the bugs weren't too bad, they just left the door open, so we could go in and out as we like.

In spite of the limits, we must say, we give this deck our approval.

Your pals Lee and Phod who are working on their tans.

Evening Field Walk - Photo Essay

Let's go!

The path the neighbour cut.

Phod takes his time.

We walk in a line.

We find some deer poop.

We aren't always on the beaten path.

Thanks M and J, great neighbours who share their field!

Mischief Monday - Too Hot

While we continue to pee in the house (it is a work in progress), the most mischief was caused by the heat.

It was unseasonably warm here last week. It was around 32C/90F when our seasonal expectations would be about 20C/68F. Of course our bodies had no time to adjust, as the previous week we had frost (meaning the temperatures were at freezing).

Lady's car read 40C/104F when she got it in at work one day!

It didn't cool down enough at night so by Friday night, our house that is air conditioning free, got up to about 27C/80F. Fortunately on Friday night the temperature dropped (and the storms missed us) and the house fell to 20C/68F overnight.

The province is under a complete fire ban and we watched the fire helicopters looking for fires in the hills and woods around us. It was a combination of cool and scary. As you may remember in May 2021 there was a small forest fire very close and we watched the water plans on our lake.

We kept cool enough by going to the lake, going on shorter walks/outings and learning to drink from the bucket Lady was filling to water her flowers.

Ice cold hose water, may be the best

Temperatures look seasonal for the next week, so you don't have to worry about us melting!

Mischief Monday Too Hot

 Dear pals,

Last week was too hot. While the temperatures were "only" in the 30s/high 80s low 90s, it felt like the 40s/over a hundred. The humidity was intense. It did not cool down at night. It was so hot that even Phod could see the value of the air conditioning until in the bedroom. Science says this is the new normal. We aren't sure we like it, but we do like visiting the lake to cool down.

This week looks more more reasonable, so we shouldn't melt!

Lee vs The Pool

As mentioned Tuesday, a puppy pool can now be found at our place. While Phod took to it like a fish out of water,  Lee was more hesitant.

Yes, I am clearly a caring a sensitive wife!

In the end she would stand in it a bit and drink from it. So that is something! We will see if she starts to like it more (at the lake she will only stand in it).

Staying Cool - Spoiled Phod

It has been as hot as Hades. We live in an a/c free house. For the most part, we can be comfortable, however, after a few days of high temperatures (we are talking in mid-high 30C/90-100F) we are all done. While we live near the beach, it isn't possible to be taking the dogs there and back to cool off all day (the 500 step walk can be almost prohibitive), so we bought them a pool.

It only took a few minutes for my Water Phod (I am sure he was born under a water sign) to realize this was a good thing.

We are not sure if the water was too cold, if he didn't like how he fit, or if he was just playing because he was in and out and in and out. He had a great time playing. From rolling Precious in the Chunnel to Phenny and Nelly's, quickly made the water very dirty.

Stay cool and have a drink!

We know many of you were dealing with extreme heat too. Hope you stayed cool!

Mischief Monday - We Thought We Would Melt

As we write this, we are celebrating a drastic drop in temperature. It is about 17C/62F which feels almost cold after last weeks high of 39C/102F. Yep, you read that right, it got to the 100s here! We bet this is not what you think of as Canadian temperatures, but it happened.

It presents a different challenge for us because our house does not have air conditioning. Yep, you also read that right (we swear, it is not April Fool's Day!). We don't even have a window unit. We do have fans and a great system of closing all the windows in the morning and opening them all in the evening. It helps. At the worst, our house reached about 28C/82F. It was warm, but livable.

This is about how we spent our days!

The tile is cool!

We have a few more reasonable days in the mid 20s/70s before we hit the 30s/high 80s again.

In other news, look who has stopped by for a visit . . .

Yep, it is cousin Emma. She is with us for a week while Uncle Chris is in San Diego for work. We hope to not have too much mischief to report next week.

Stay cool dear friends!

Last day of summer

Today is the last official day of the summer of 2011. While the summer has not been my favourite, it may be one of the most memorable ones, unfortunately not for great reasons.

At any rate, Lee and I have been doing our best to enjoy the last few days off summer.  She has taken to sunbathing on the deck.
