Tasty Tuesday - Nutram 30-Day Optimum Transition Challenge - Wrap Up

Today wraps up our 30 Day Nutram Optimum Transition Challenge.

"Give us more!"

To recap, Nutram is a Canadian made food. It is available for both dogs and cats in 36 countries.

For this challenge our dogs tried formula T-26, Totally Grain Free Lamb & Legume Natural Dog Food. We picked this formula after completing Nutram's easy to use "your  Nutram number".

What we loved:
-Both dogs were really excited at meal time, during the entire month. It was especially noticeable for Zaphod who is not as food motivated and doesn't show excitement at meal times.

Phod licked his bowl clean every night

-Both dogs had healthy poops while on it.
-Both dogs had the energy to run and play.
-I love that it is a Canadian company.
-I love that each ingredient is something I can read and understand.
-I love that it was easy to find a relator who will supply it from the Nutrum site. (There is one near my work).

What we didn't love:
-We honestly can't think of anything.

Nutram is definitely a food that can be part  of a healthy lifestyle for Hailey and Zaphod.

Thank you Nutram for allowing us to participate in this yummy challenge. We loved it. We give you 8 paws up!
Hailey never left a piece!

Tasty Tuesday - Nutram's 30-day Optimum Transition Challenge - Post Three

Look at the food in the bucket
The pups have now been eating Nutram for 23 days. The past 2 weeks or so, after completing the 10 day transition to Nutram, it has been the pups exclusive food.

The day I changed the bucket from the old food to the new one was super exciting. Perhaps it was made even more exciting by the fact I dropped a few pieces. One of my favourite features of the bag is the seal. I could have the bag on the floor for a few minutes without having to worry about Hailey getting her head in it, as well as it keeps the food fresher longer!

What I have noticed:
-The dogs are still very, very excited to eat. Hailey has been so focused on her food this past weekend, she stepped in the extra water bowl every time! Zaphod continues beg and be really excited to eat!

-Zaphod has added a poop to his day. He has gone from a 3 a day pooper, to usually a 4 a day one. Hailey continues to poop one or two times per day.

-Both dogs are having larger, poops.

-Both dogs seem happy and healthy.

Can we have some now?
Hey that looks like me on the bag!

We have another week before we wrap up the challenge, so be sure to come by next week for our final thoughts on this product.

Lady may like the bag seal, but I don't, I can't get extra food!

Tasty Tuesday - Nutram's 30-Day Optimum Transition Challenge - Part 2

We have completed the first 7 days of the challenge. In 3 more days the pups will be eating all Nutram food. I believe the dogs are looking forward to this. They are really seeming to be enjoying this new food. Phod has even started waiting patiently for his food in the kitchen. Historically, he has waited outside the kitchen area, but the past week, he has been in the kitchen while I prepare the food.

This was day one. Most of the food in the dish isn't even the food he is waiting for!
Phod has begun to eat his food more quickly. We will watch this and if need be, pull out the other slow bowl. Hailey, thankfully is eating at an appropriate pace, but she licks her bowl and Phod's clean (although after he is done, I am not sure there is much to lick clean!). So far at least, the switch is a success!

Last week one of our pals asked if their was chicken in this food, as many pups are allergic to chicken. While I can't speak for all the formulas, I double checked T-26, the formula we are trying, and there is no chicken.

Nutram was kind enough to send us a welcome basket as well. Inside there were 2 new bowls, 2 beautiful leather leashes, shampoo (the dogs insist this was a mistake, they don't need that), and 2 rope toys.

Nutram is winning our hearts!

Tasty Tuesday - Nutram's 30-day Optimum Transition Challenge

We are teaming up with Nutram for the next 30 days to take their 30-day Optimum Transition Challenge.

Hailey very curious about the big boxes that arrived
There are so many choices of dog food on the market, I often feel overwhelmed trying to find the healthiest food for the best price. I am also always hesitant to try a new food incase Zaphod (Hailey is far less picky) doesn't like it. I really don't like to waste food. I was really excited to be asked to join Nutram for this challenge. The company is based in Elmira, Ontario, Canada. (Not to far from where I grew up). They can be found in 25 countries and have food for both dogs and cats. All the meat they use is raised without hormones and each recipe is naturally preserved. When I was reading about the company, I really liked the emphasis they placed on an overall healthy lifestyle. We all know that food alone doesn't make you healthy, you need to be active too!

My very active boy!
The next step was determining what food (there were 21 formulas) would be best for Hailey and Zaphod.  Nutram  made it easy with their "What's your Nutram number?" (You can click HERE to find your number). I ran this for both Hailey and Zaphod and one food came up for both of them, T-26. I have decided that in order to keep my life easy, they need to be eating the same food. I knew if I tried different foods, I would spend meal time running interference as they tried to eat each others!

One of our bags
About T-26:
For a full list of ingredients click HERE
It is a grain-free, lamb and legumes food. There wasn't one ingredient I didn't recognize from the label.
This formula also has Omega-3 fatty acids to help improve mobility. This is important for Phod who at age 5 has already shown "stiffness" if he is over exercised (and regular readers know how much he loves to play fetch).

How does it taste?
We can't say yet. As many of you are reading this (Tuesday morning), it will be the first time I feed the dogs this food. Nutram sent us a detailed chart on transitioning, and we will be following it for the 10 day transition. I have never formally transitioned a dog food like this, so it will be interesting. I can say that the bags have been sitting in the garage for a week, and Hailey has been seen many times trying to open the bag. It clearly smells good!
Next week on Tasty Tuesday we will check in and tell you how it tastes and how we are enjoying week one!

Not that you should pick a food based on packaging
but I love the back of the Nutram bag. I thought it
was very clever.
