See Beautiful - The Beach

In the 1930s my great-grandparents had a  shack moved from a family property to the shores of Lake Huron (Point Clark, Ontario). 12 years ago my parents covered the cottage and the additions into their permanent home.

The front yard

I am the 5th generation of my family who has visited the lake. Our family always spent the first week after school there. We lived about 20 minutes away. We also visited over the summer and spent time with my grandparents and the extended family there. It is where most of my family memories come from.

My earliest memory is from there. I remember my great-grandmother putting me in her room for a nap. I couldn't have been older than 4, likely closer to 3.

I was lucky to get to share the lake with the 6th generation - my niece and nephew.

There is beauty in memories, the beach, the lake and family.

See Beautiful Friday - Summer Days

Our front yard

It has been a record setting wet summer. We tied the record of having 18 consecutive days of rain. The dull days really help you see the beauty in blue in the sky.

See Beautiful - The Seasons

Lady is in the very slow process of cleaning out her digital pictures (it is going to take months as she has thousands to go through). She started with the most recent ones and came across this one:

There is something so beautiful in something the Lady generally doesn't like, that she had to keep this picture. The Man and Lee look so small in the big yard of snow. It does remind Lady if you look hard enough you can find beauty anywhere.

See Beautiful - Sugar

Today we join Blogville in remembering Sugar, a beautiful soul awaiting us at the bridge.

This picture from BAR from last year is a representation of the beauty of the friendships in Blogville. We imagine all our pals on the bench with us. That is the beauty we see.

See Beautiful - Winter

While I find winters hard for many reasons, I am going to find the beauty in them today. These pictures were taken on Wednesday of this week.

See Beautiful Friday - Neigh-bours

Today in our see beautiful post, we are seeing the beauty in our neighbours, the horses. Sometimes they come to close to the fence and we have to bark at them, but most of the time, they are just good neigh-bours.

See Beautiful - Misty Mornings

The days are getting shorter and often part of our morning walk is done in the complete dark. So we are enjoying the misty mornings at sunrise.

See Beautiful - BBFG - 3

It seems appropriate to finish my series on the Bruce Botanical Food Garden on See Beautiful and Dory's Flower Friday.  Here are a few more pictures.

See Beautiful - Flower Friday

Today are combining two wonderful things - See Beautiful and Dory's  Flower Friday.  I am not a gardener (it is one of those things I wish I liked but actually hate). I took pictures on our morning walks of some of the local wildflowers. Enjoy!

See Beautiful

I came across this picture in my iPhoto this week. It is from a few years ago, but I think it is one of the most beautiful skies I have ever seen.

See Beautiful - Longer Days

While the weather remains below seasonable (meaning below freezing) and as I prepare this post for Friday it is snowing out (and snowing heavily), there is one sign that spring is here - longer days.

Our morning walks are light enough we don't need the headlamp. My drive home is bright enough I don't need headlights.

One of the field we walk by most mornings

It is now bright enough in the morning, we can stop and admire our deer friends, who have returned.

Taken in the field across the road from the house

It was a truly beautiful moment Wednesday morning when the dogs and I could just stand peacefully and watch the 6 deer in the field.

See Beautiful - Winter

First a little update on the Man. One of the tests came back and he has salmonella. He is still having his colonoscopy today, so wish him luck.

The past few weeks I have really been struggling with winter. I have actually been counting down the years until I can leave a cold climate forever (it should be about 15 until retirement). However, sometimes in this dislike of the season, I see beautiful moments like this:

This are the moments that help me get through the cold, dark days.

See Beautiful - Travel

Today we step outside our normal topic, life with my dogs, to talk about life on the high seas.  I am blessed with a life that allows me to travel a lot. Because of the uncertainty of life, we don't want to wait until retirement to travel. We may not be able to by then. So we are balancing our books and my guilt about leaving the dogs and doing as much as we can while we can!

Our latest trip took us away from winter (which quite frankly has been very mild this year) to the Caribbean. We have developed a love for cruising so we thought we would try out a brand new ship, the Norwegian Escape. The ship started sailing in November. It was the biggest we had been on, with nearly 5000 passengers. I admit I prefer the smaller ships with 2400 or so people. Uncle Chris and 2 of our friends joined us.  Our ports were Miami, St. Thomas, US British Islands, Tortola, British Virgin Islands, and Nassau Bahamas.

Here is some of the beauty we saw:

The ship had a rope course and water slides. Lady was too scared to try them. Man enjoyed.
