Mischief Monday - Last Dear Man Post

Dear Man,

If things went as planned, you arrived home late last night. Welcome home! We can't wait to hear about your trip in detail. You are not the most detailed tester.

We must take cover

Overall, Lady says she gives us a B for the week. We were good at walking and did no damage when she left the house. We went to camp and were not embarrassing. For the most part, we slept through the night (except the night there was assassins on the deck and we barked a lot - the curtains should arrive tomorrow). We didn't want to eat normally and we wanted to get up too early. We also have been drinking a lot of water.

The most mischief was Friday evening. Lady says it wasn't a Good Friday. In the afternoon, it became super windy. Some trees blew down at Callie's. Then right at the time Lady had a virtual chat with friends scheduled, there was some thunder.

Hold me I am scared

The power flickered 87 million 4 times. We were sure we were going to die.

Lady put us on leashes and held us while she was chatting.

This leash is preventing me from destroying the house

Lady made the mistake of being lulled into a false sense of security and letting Lee offleash. In less than 5 minutes, Lee peed on the bed in Lady's office, and rubbed her nose on it so much, it looked like a crime scene. Lee's nose was also a bloody mess. Lady says a new bed with a waterproof cover should be here tomorrow as well. Lee has peed too many times on this bed and it won't survive a washing so it is in the garbage.

I wonder if the Easter Bunny needs a red nosed dog?

The storm didn't last long and we settled for the evening and had a good night.

Overall, we had a good week, but we did miss you enough to not want to eat right. That is a lot of missing, especially from Lee.

love your B students, Lee and Phod

Dear Man - Post 3 Covering Days 3-5

Some clarifications before we begin. The Man is on a vacation all by himself. He asked Lady to go with him but she wasn't ready to travel, especially on a cruise ship, so she decided to stay home with us.

Dear Man,

We thought we were being the best puppies and more or less listening to the Lady but the most horrible thing has happened.

Can't we just stay home together forever?

On Monday, Lady didn't give us breakfast and then made us get in the car. Lee was very enthusiastic, but Phod was suspicious and there was a lot of coaxing and trying to go back in the house. Lady said a video would have been funny.

Then we drove for 87 million years, about an hour and realized we were at camp. We haven't been there forever. We were not happy.

Apparently on Monday, we had a good day at camp. Phod played all day. Lee played a little. We were very snuggly with each other (which we aren't at home).

We were thrilled to be home but disappointed you weren't. We looked everywhere for you!

Tuesday we were two very, very tired pups.

Wednesday, Lady was really worried she wasn't going to be able to get us into the car, but we were both excited when she asked if we wanted to go to camp.

We had another good day.

While camp was alright, we would much rather be home with Lady. She says it is our last day for now and we will get to be home alone for a few hours today as she has a dental appointment. We will see how this goes.

Dear Man - Day Two

 Dear Man,

You will be happy, and maybe surprised, to hear that on Sunday, as is custom, Lady made pancakes. We refuse to say if they were as good as yours because Lady said you come home late next Sunday and we want to make sure we get some next week. Subpar pancakes are better than no pancakes. Lady did not give us the fancy syrup.

Lady says they couldn't have been too bad because Lee ate all her breakfast after a day of not really eating.

Phod spends most of his time at the door, awaiting your return.

Lee was glued to the Lady on  Saturday, but on Sunday is back to her normal routine.

While there is still some snow, there is more grass and some of us have been rolling a lot.  Lady has been keeping with our regular outings. She says tired pups are good pups.

Speaking of tired, Lady tricked us this week, and we had to go to camp. We will tell you all about that on Thursday.

Hope you aren't getting burnt.

Your very good pups, Lee and Phod

Dear Man - Day One

We interrupt some of our regularly scheduled programming to bring you a special series, called Dear Man. Our Man is out globe trotting (aka on a cruise ship in the Caribbean) while we are at home with the Lady. We thought we would post a journal for him.

Dear Man,

After you left at 3:30 am Saturday morning, we went back to sleep until after 7. Lady made us wait but then she took us on a hike in the sugar bush (aka woods behind our house). She learned from the neighbours they are likely done boiling and we missed it this year, while we were avoiding people so you wouldn't get the Covid before you went. They said they got about 80 litres and when they are less Covid-y (avoiding them was a good idea), they will bring some maple syrup over.

Still snow in the bush

An Usie!

Checking out an old school bucket

Not much inside

Callie left her ball back here!

Walking by the shack

While Lady was cleaning the house, she found this . . . maybe this is why some puppies looked guilty when you got home the other day.

Callie came over to visit a lot. We think she is bored living with sick people. when the non-sick people were out, we stayed far away.

Overall, we had a good first day without you. It was mostly a typical Saturday.

Love your good pups, Lee and Phod

Nature Friday - Our 'Hood

Happy Winter Solstice! This is one of the most exciting days here as we know the days are now starting to get longer!

Lady has a new thing that on the weekends Man is going to join us for a walk. He does not walk with us during the week (he is not usually up when we venture out between 5 and 6 am).  She says her steps have fallen off a little since her FitBit died and while she works out every day (strength training 2 days a week and yoga 5), she needs to be getting more walking in as she is going to be hiking in Bryce Canyon in May.

At any rate, so far we are 1/1 for pack weekend walks. Sunday was a lovely day with the temperature around freezing and so much sun.  Since the Man was with us, Lady was able to take pictures (she can't do that while she has both of us - we can't imagine why!

Here we are walking down our the main road we walk down ever morning.

Here are Man and Phod turning off the main road to Lee's favourite road.

Here is some bush on favourite road. There are often deer tracks coming through it up to the road, so lots of good sniffs!

This is looking across the field on favourite road to our house.

Can you find our house now? Lady says she doesn't get to appreciate this view most mornings now since it is soooooo dark.

Here are the boys heading back up favourite road towards home.

We hope you enjoyed seeing some of the nature around our house.

Mischief Monday - I Can Almost See the Humour

We step outside our dog life, to the human life to share this story with you today.

The scene: Lady is heading out the door to go and pick the Man up from the hospital (more about that below). She locks and closes the door between the house and garage to realize her keys are sitting on the shelf inside.

Plan A: The next door neighbours have a key, go get it.

Plan A fails: Neighbours aren't home.

Plan B: Put her snowshoes on (the snow is still waste deep in places), go around to the back of the house and "break in" (or pray the sneaky way, which we won't share here, is open)

Lee ad the Man a few weeks ago
Plan B: Thank goodness it works.

Now plan A is to get a key to hid in the garage so this doesn't happen again.

Perhaps the real mischief is the Man. Not that it is his fault but . . . .Short story: Man became very, very ill (thing worse stomach bug ever) Friday and ended up in the emergency room. He was there for 5 hours, pumped full of gravol and morphine and sent home with a list of things to watch for. Saturday around 11 the Man tells the Lady one of those things has happened, so Lady gets us all organized and is back at the hospital by 12. 7.5 hours later (don't worry, Lady left for a bit and drove the 30 minutes back to take care of the dogs), it was determined the Man had a bowel infection and was sent home with a bunch of prescriptions and follow up testing.

What was confirmed this weekend: Although Lady is a master problem solver, when Lady said "in sickness and in health" 87 million years ago, she clearly didn't mean it. She completely lacks empathy when it impacts her life and has absolutely no patience for others being sick, and she is a horrible nurse. She wishes it wasn't that way, but alas. So please send some sympathy to the very sick Man for having to deal with her and some POTP that he gets better soon and maybe some patience for the Lady.

Bless those of you who take care of very sick people in your lives. You are true angels.

Please forgive us if we aren't around as much as usual this week. Lady is going to have to take over all the household chores, try and keep the Man alive and continue to work, so she won't have as much time free time.

Mischief Monday - What a Day!

Last Wednesday wins the mischief day!

It started with Man realizing as he was leaving for work that he had a flat tire. Fortunately, Lady was working from home, so he could take her car. Lady dealt with having CAA come and put the donut on. We were very mad that we had to stay in the house while Lady was outside with a stranger. We barked the whole time. Lady said it was amusing because the guy who came to deal with the car only spoke French and Lady doesn't really speak French, so she really had no idea what he was saying.

At least we got to go and check it out after the guy left

Then, after dinner, Lady thought Phod was playing in the bedroom. She went in to discover he had gone into the laundry hamper, taken out underwear and chewed up 2 pairs of her underwear and one of the Man's. She didn't take a picture of that to spare you all. However, she took a picture of shameful Phod. He sulked all night after being scolded. The closet door now needs to stay closed so he can't eat underwear.

It is a little blurry but Lady was lecturing him while taking this with her phone

Mischief Monday - There Was No Contest

Some weeks it is hard to decide who should get our mischief award, but this was not such a week.

This week's mischief award goes to the Man.

It started Thursday night (like 9:30) when the Man mistakenly, but not too surprisingly, believe there was a fire in the freezer attached to the fridge. He was in the kitchen and heard weird "popping" noises in the freezer. When he opened it, it was glowing red, steaming,  hot and popping - really kind of like an electrical fire. The power was cut, the fridge was moved, etc. etc. No wires were chewed but there was mouse poop (vindicating Hailey who had barked at it a lot Wednesday evening). We moved everything from the freezer to the chest freezer in the garage. While I was exploring new fridge options, the Man was perusing the manual and discovered this was apparently normal. Some web research confirmed this. Apparently sometimes the defrost heater in your fridge can be like that. Who knew?  Anyway, we were just relieved to not have to get a new fridge.

Fast-forward to Friday morning. The Man puts a "magic" type bag that his massage therapist has brought (yep, she comes to the house) into the microwave. I was sitting in the dining room and stood up to get some socks as my feet were cold. I look over and the microwave was billowing smoke. The Man had followed the massage therapist's directions and put it in the microwave for 10 minutes. This was too long and it had burnt.  They believe the bowl she had for it may not have been microwave safe. This left our house smoky and smelling of burnt, but fortunately no one was hurt.

We are now hoping for a few fire free, boring days!

Happy Birthday to the Man

Today's a special day,
A special day for our Man,
Our Man dance, our Man sing,
A birthday is a special thing,
Happy Birthday,
Happy Birthday,
Happy 40th Birthday, Man!

Today we celebrate our Man and all the wonderful things he does for us.
He runs a little with Hailey.
He helps Hailey feel brave.
He is a great fetch pal with Phod.
He gives great cuddles and belly rubs.
He makes sure Nin's dish is full.
He keeps the Lady in check and doesn't let her fill the house with pets.
He feeds the Lady - she would be the first to starve without him!

He is wonderful.

Man, while you are totally wonderful, you have one little, tiny flaw. You tell the Lady we don't need new treats and toys, and we have to say, this is an incorrect statement!

Mischief Monday - Man's Bad Day

Sorry there are no pictures for this as I was not home. The Man retold his story about last Thursday. Here is the summary.

The Man was almost home when he ran out of windshield wiper fluid. He figured he would just deal with it at home. As he was driving down the private road we live on he saw a car. He was curious so as he turned into the driveway (with his dirty windshield) he was looking into the rearview mirror and cause he couldn't see out the front, he drove into a snowbank.

Driving into a snowbank is only a problem if you get stuck and the Man got really stuck. It took him, the next door neighbour and 2 people who were renting the cottage down the road to push him out. The 2 renters had a dog. While the people were pushing, their dog checked out our yard.

Once Man got his car out he came to take the dogs out. Of course, the dogs had seen this strange dog and when he opened the door 2/3 took off to find the stranger. [Emma was the good dog and she stayed in the yard during the events that followed]. They were stopped part way down the road by one of the neighbours, his dog Ghost (who is wonderful and friendly) and his new foster Shadow. The dogs were all getting along smashingly, until the Man went to put Phod on leash. Something about this action caused Shadow to become aggressive and lunge at Phod. The Man intervened and in the end was the one who got bitten. Fortunately Shadow didn't bite hard and with the Man's winter coat etc no marks or damage done. Man was then able to bring everyone home and he called it a day!

I, the Lady, of course am very supportive and I didn't LMAO at the Man. No, I felt bad for the Man for his series of unfortunate events.

I do admit I am now a little concerned about Shadow. Clearly he has some socialization issues and I am concerned because we live out the country and I know he is often off leash (I saw him running down the road off least yesterday). I am concerned if we come upon him, he may be aggressive again. We will have to be extra careful to make sure everyone stays safe.
