FFF and Nature Friday - Early Spring

It is an extra good Friday as Aunty-Yam's FFF and Rosy and Sunny's Nature Friday are both happening.

Here is our little poem, with pictures from the sugar bush.

 It is early spring

and with it, it does bring

lots of good sniffs

in the remaining skift.

The ground is not yet muddy

the bugs are not yet cruddy,

it is the perfect time to explore,

the bush we do adore.

On one of our walks we found some extra good sniffs lots of other creature prints.

Lady was especially interested in the big canine track. Stray dog? Coyote? Wolf? We aren't sure.

We hope you enjoyed our poem and are having a very Good Friday, however you spend it.

Sometimes when I am outside, I see Callie out in her yard. When this happens, I have to bark, a lot. Callie will usually bark back. 

Lady wonders if this is necessary, and I say it is. How else will I keep up with the going ons in the hood?

When Will The Snow Be Gone

Here is our snow check in.

We had dustings many days last week, but they didn't last. Even with the below freezing temperatures, the snow is mostly gone in the front yard. 

However, there are some pockets in the back that must melt. These were taken on Saturday.

Mischief Monday - Maybe Busy Isn't So Bad - by Phod

 Dear pals,

As we have said before Lady has been very busy. And she is injured with her elbow so things are harder. We agree with Beau's Lady, she needs to no more.  She actually says no more than you would imagine, she is just in demand. 

At any rate, she has been working to make sure she is spending more time with us. This means besides the nice walks (we will share some later this week), she is into the physical love (in her case smooshing us me).

I think I may like busy better then this.

Nature Friday - Still Not Springy Enough - by Phod

 Thanks to my pals Rosy and Sunny for hosting this event.

As you know, it is unseasonably snow-less, although this week it has been rather chilly and even good Canadians need a winter coat and hat (Lady wanted to write toque but I reminded her not everyone knows what a toque is so she used the word toque). Anyway, there was so little snow everywhere, I thought we should go to the lake for a swim. Lady would only take me to the top of the hill. As you can see the lake is still very ice covered.

Lady said it is far to dangerous for us to go near it yet. So while I was sad I couldn't swim, I did try and enjoy the fact our after dinner walk doesn't happen in the dark right now. 

And then come home and dream of the day I get to go swimming again.

Extra Supervision Needed - by Lee

Dear pals,

Lady is requiring a lot of extra supervision these days. She has been too busy and sometimes it feels like she is hardly home. She hopes things slow down some because she was not designed for so much peopling! After being out 36 hours on the weekend at 4 different social things, she needed a day in bed.

I take my supervising duties very seriously and I am sometimes rewarded by something like cheese while she works.

We are sorry we haven't been around much lately, but again Lady has been busy and in her spare time she had added physio as she has microtears in the tendon in her elbow. She should have some more time in the next few weeks as she can't play pickleball or do things like vacuum (she is not so sad about that last one).

Welcome Spring! When Will The Snow Be Gone

 Today at 11:09 pm spring officially arrives!

We are sad to say the snow is not only hanging around in a few places in our yard, we actually got more snow!

The new snow didn't stay but those stubborn pockets that don't get much snow did.

So sorry Rosy and Sunny, and Fay, you are not the winners this year.

We have one guess this week, Ruby Rose. Will the snow all be gone by tomorrow? Or will it hang around for Millie and Walter, Beau or Ojo's guess?

Mischief Monday - Didn't say Hi! - by Phod

 Hi pals,

Lady left the house at 2 on Friday afternoon and only got home Saturday evening. Hailey happily greeted her at the front door. I on the other hand didn't get up. She was home for about an hour and a half before I found the strength to come out of the bedroom to see her.

You may think I was mad at her, and I was a little angry, but mostly I am going a little deaf and likely didn't hear her.

The Shot - by Phod

 Dear pals,

Last Friday I had to go to the vet for my librela shot. I do not like this monthly trip. First, I didn't get breakfast, so I couldn't throw up in Lady's car to show her how displeased I was. (I did throw up a little when I got home, out of the car). Then I saw a dog across the parking lot who did not seem friendly (he was in a room by the time I got inside, Lady took her time going in). Then they commented on my weight (I lost a few pounds). Then they discussed my poop eating (hello, private information here!) Finally the tech gave me my shot and Lady did at least make sure it was in my front leg, I do prefer that.

Not here again

Now I may not like the process of this, but there is no denying this is a miracle for me. Apparently if you block my pain receptors, I can feel more puppy like and really want to play. Lady knows there is some controversy about this medication (what medication doesn't come with some), but says she is extremely grateful it is able to help her old Phod live his best golden years.

When Will The Snow Be Gone Contest - The entries

 Well, as of Sunday afternoon, the snow had hung on some. This picture was taken from Saturday, so there is a little less but still a blanket of it. Lady was wrong, it wasn't all gone before the 9th.

As there is not much going on around here, Lady is pulling a couple trail cam pictures from last year she has never shared. She never got it up this winter, but will this spring. 

These pictures were captured when the camera set up behind the house, at the top of the hill in the bush.

Trouble on a Tuesday - More Weather -by Phod

 

Dear pals, 

Last week we had a horrible, terrible, not good day.

It started Wednesday when our weather was 13C/55F with rain, thunder and very high winds. These winds knocked trees and branches down, including one that landed on the hydro line behind our house. This took out our power starting at about 4:30 pm on Wednesday.

Then the weather turned very cold. Overnight it went down to -18C/0F.  The power stayed off. Even with the generator and fire, parts of the house got cold. For some reason the internet didn't like the generator (it is usually ok) and caused problems. Lady had to wear gloves while working in her office. Man got fed up and took the afternoon off and went to a movie.  During an outing we decided to run away in the afternoon to look for power. Lady brought us back from the sugar shack. She was thrilled to have spent 30 minutes chasing us around Callie's yard. When trying to fill the generator Lady got covered in gas. Lady was grumpy and miserable and eventually gave up trying to work too. 

The power returned around 5:30 pm.  It has been a long 25 hours. 

Now you would think the mischief would have ended when the power came back, but it didn't. When hanging our leashes up and turning off the garage light, I snuck in. Lady didn't notice. Man was on a work call and Lady was in the tub and she heard the garage door sort of opening and closing. She realized what had happened and jumped out of the tub and ran, leaving a trail of bath water, to the garage. I was very upset. She said it was an accident. I can't believe she locked me in the garage for 87 million years (it was maybe 45 minutes at the most). 

Anyways, it was a horrible, terrible, not good day and I am glad it is over.

When Will The Snow Be Gone - Contest is Staring Early

 

Long time readers will know all about this event. You may notice it is starting early. That is because we have had a wild winter. From November to end of February we got 77 cm/30 inches of snow when the average is at least 200cm/79 inches. It has also been a very mild winter with lots of thawing. Because we don't know if this snow is going to stay much longer, we have decided to start our contest early.

The rules:

Pick a date between March 9 2024 and well whenever you want. Put it in the comments below by end of the day Friday March 8, 2024 (11:59 pm EST). 

Please look at the other comments to make sure your date isn't taken. If it is Lady will give you the next available day.

The person who is the closest without going over will get a prize or can select the charity of their choice for a donation. 

Snow gone = no more snow in the yard (it doesn't count snow in the bush).

It is that easy!

If the snow is gone before Saturday, Lady will pick a charity to give a donation to.  Looking at this weeks forecast, Lady isn't sure it will last.
