Idea - Pet-ternity

If people who decide to have kids (biological or adopted) can take one year off and get paid for it here in Canada (maternity leave or paternity leave), I think we should have pet-ternity, and people with dogs or cats or other pets could take a year off to be with them. Just a thought!
