We Didn't Get Left at Home For Once

We had something extra special to be thankful for on Thanksgiving, we got to go to the celebrations.

Big clouds - it has been a rather rainy weekend

First we had to drive for 87 million hours (about an hour and a half in people time). Phod didn't get breakfast so was a bit stressed before we left, but not as sick in the car.

Visiting with Grammie

Once there, Lady, Man and Uncle Chris had some outside things to do to help Grammie and the Big Guy, so we barked a lot.

Phod meets a doll

Then Aunt C and her family came. Our human cousin T is very scared of us. We don't know why. We didn't even bark when he came in. Apparently some people don't like dogs!

Mostly is was Hailey scouring the floor for any crumbs, Phod trolling for scratches and just hanging around while people talked and talked and talked.

Chillin'

We each got the smallest ever piece of turkey, hardly worth it.

Trying to nap

Then after another 87 million hours we were home, and very tired because there was just enough going on with the 9 people there to really impact our ability to nap.

Happy Thanksgiving!

We interrupt our usual mischief post to wish everyone a wonderful Canadian Thanksgiving!

Fun fact - did you know the first Canadian Thanksgiving was held in in 1578 or 1579, in what is now Nunavut. Sir Frobisher and his crew ate salty beef, biscuits and mushy peas to give thanks for their safe arrival in the arctic. Since 1957, Canadians have been celebrating the harvest and giving thanks the second Monday of October.

Today we give thanks for:

All being here to celebrate Thanksgiving and all being relatively healthy

Having the resources needed to weather the very expensive curve balls life has given us

All the yummy food

Our friends, family and all our loyal and wonderful Blog friends.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thankful Thursday -Together

While Hailey and Zaphod clearly tolerate each other and May like each other, I have never thought of them as a bonded pair. However in the last week or so I have got glimpses of how much they care for each other.

Maybe old age is softening them!

Thankful Monday

Today is Thanksgiving in Canada and while 2020 has been something else, we do have a lot to be thankful for. Lady's daily practice of gratitude help her see all the good that remains.

We will be thankful when picture time is over and the walk continues

Treats- we are grateful their are always lots in the cupboard

Health - ours and our families - at this time and always this is very important

Audio - the sounds that surround us, such as birds, rustling leaves, podcasts, music . . . .

Nature -we are blessed to be surrounded by such beautiful nature and wildlife

Kindness- the small acts we see bring light to dark times

Friends and Family -  those we have met and those virtual - we are blessed to have both

Unacknowledged people - those who are working hard to make our food, clothing, take our garbage away etc.

Laughter - nothing helps you with a difficult time more than laughter and we are grateful to laugh a lot

Wishing all our Canadian friends a very Happy Thanksgiving. May we all see the blessings that surround us!

Happy Thanksgiving! A Family Adventure

To all our Canadian pals we wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving. May your day be filled with love, laughter and plenty to eat.

We are spending this Thanksgiving 750 km away from home with the Lady's parents.

Our adventure started on the 4th, when we got up at stupid o'clock (4:30 am), went for a walk and by 5:30 we were in the car for the long, long drive. We stopped 3 times. Phod was never sick in the car (yay) and 8 hours and 45 minutes we were at the former cottage, now a house.

On the drive down

Are we there yet?
We have been very busy here:

Taking Grandma's chair

Supervising the Big Guy's nap

Catching up with their dog Tendra

Supervising the Big Guy some more

Allowing Lady to sit in Lee's favourite chair

Helping make the stuffing

Being worried we may be about to get in trouble for helping make the stuffing

Helping the Lady and Big Guy with genealogy.

We hope there is some turkey for all our hard work!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thankful Thursday - by Phod

Today I am thankful for all my toys. I am thankful for Emma for dragging them all out.

I am also thankful for all of you! Lady is sorry for not visiting, work is insane! We should be able to catch up over the weekend!

Editor's note: This isn't all the toys, the Lady may have hid an equal number of toys because Hurricane Emma insists on having them all out. The two resident dogs are fine with only a few.

Thanks-Blogville

Today was join Jakey, Arty and Rosy in the Thanks-Blogville Blog Hop.

Blogville has allowed us to connect with people from all over the world. People from different walks of life, with different beliefs, cultures and traditions. These are people we would not have had the opportunity to meet in other circles. We are all brought together by the love of animals and the place they have in our lives and hearts. We share our joys, pains and laughter. Blogville is always around when we need support. Blogville never rolls their eyes when we share 'another' dog picture. Blogville teaches us a lot about being a pet owner.

We are thankful for all the love and understanding we have found in Blogville.

Lady is thankful Blogville gives her an excuse to travel to places she wouldn't.

Happy Thanksgiving to all our American friends.

Happy Thanksgiving!

The second Monday in October is Thanksgiving in Canada.

To all our Canadian friends and readers, happy Thanksgiving! May it be filled with love, laughter and a little too much turkey.

Here is a list of some of the things we are thankful for: (can you guess whose is whose?)

1. Precious
2. When Lady feeds me right at 6:30
3. Emma is home so she is no longer stealing my toys
4. Long walks
5. Grass to roll in
6. Bed naps
7. Belly rubs
8. When Lady feeds us because she puts a cookie on top
9. Off leash time
10. Having lots of babies to play with
11. ALL OF YOU!

Lady says she is also thankful that most of her life problems are truly 'first world problems' like not being able to use iMessage anymore or when someone accidentally lost the power cord to her video camera at work. Both are annoying in the short term, but when those are your problems, you are living a good life!

Wishing everyone a wonderful day!

Thank You Thursday - Thank You Bilbo

We bring you the next instalment of our Thankful Thursday. This year Bilbo got Hailey's name and sent some great gifts all the way from California. Several hundred pictures got damaged on my memory card and the I haven't figured out if I can fix them yet, so the original opening pictures have been lost. But never fear, we can still show off the great gifts.

First up, and probably the favourite of the dogs and most annoying to the humans:

Zaphod has pretty much taken bear over (although he sometimes let's Lee play). Bear no longer has ears or legs. Phod says it is to help him fly better.

There were also some fun Christmas things which we will enjoy next year. Hailey will be the best dressed with her new collar clip!

Clearly for Lady - if you have love and a dog, you do have everything!

While it seems others have taken over Lee's gift, she was thrilled with the treats.

GIVEITTOTHEMUTTGIVEITTOTHEMUTTGIVEITTOTHEMUTT

Thank you so much Bilbo for wonderful gifts Hailey is kind enough to share!

Happy Thanksgiving

An old picture, Lady hasn't done our 2016
yet as the leaves aren't pretty enough
Here in Canada we celebrate Thanksgiving on the second Monday of October. Yesterday we had our feast and got lots and lots of treats and love from some of our favourite people.

Today we are taking time to give thanks for our wonderful lives. We have loving homes, plenty of food to eat, we get lots of exercise, and we have wonderful friends, some who we know in the furs and some virtually. We are very thankful to be part of the loving, wonderful, Blogville community. It is truly the best place in the world. While we have been busy and not able to visit like we would like to, please know you are all never far from our thoughts.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thankful Thursday - by Hailey

I, Hailey, graciously accept the following award, presented to me by the gang at Love is being owned by a husky.

I know the award said it was given to Hailey and Zaphod, but we all know this blog wouldn't exist without me, and therefore, the award should be mine. If this was a supporting role award, clearly that would go to Zaphod. He is a great supporting player in my life.

I would like to give a little bit of thanks to the Lady. She does do a little to make this blog possible. She does also do an OK job at taking care of me. Overall, she is pretty well trained.  I will also give a little thanks to the Man. He sometimes helps me feel brave when I am scared.

I also want to thank the other supporting character in my life, Ninny. He is a good cat. I only wish he wasn't so old so I could play rough with him. That would be better.

Finally I would like to thank myself for being so full of life and joy and all the rest. The world would be boring without me. I pass this award on to everyone who makes those around them smile.

Thank you.

Happy Thanksgiving

Today is Thanksgiving Monday in Canada. The dogs wanted to help with the dinner by catching us a turkey from this gang of turkeys that often visits our yard. This is the Johnson's. They have been living around our house since spring. The family is dad Joe, moms Thelma and Louise, and at last count 11 babies, who don't look much like babies anymore. Earlier in the spring there were at least 13 babies, so a few have been lost, but overall, the family has done well this year. Hailey would like to catch a turkey to eat. Phod loves to chase them so they all fly up into the trees. As soon as they are up, he leaves them alone.

As it is Thanksgiving we reflect on all we have to be thankful for.  Lady and Man have great jobs. We have a great house, with lots to eat. The pups have lots of toys and treats. We have wonderful friends and family. We are all healthy. We get to spend time with our friends in Blogville. We have a lot to be thankful for.

Today we will count our blessings and then tomorrow we will be back to normal and complaining about stupid little things that are really first world problems! We will try and remember how lucky we are every day and not just one weekend.

Happy Thanksgiving

Thankful Mischief Monday

Lady said because it is Thanksgiving, we need to be thankful before we share mischief (feel free to skip over this boring part and go right to the mischief).

Hailey: I am thankful for mischief,  all my new puzzle toys, getting lots of treats, great smells, humping Nin, that Baggy hasn't killed me yet, that Phod lets me be the boss and for my people (when they are being patient and understanding with me).

Zaphod: I am thankful for my loving people and my Hailey and my cats and getting brushed and always having a full belly, not having to slay dragons anymore and my ball. I think I am most thankful for my ball.

[Note: we refer to Phod's abusive past as the time he slayed dragons. We imagine he slayed the dragon and ran free and this is when he was found and rescued].

Nin: What is thankful?

Bagheera: I will be thankful when I want to be thankful, not when you tell me to be thankful. But so you will leave me alone, I am thankful I am still alive to enjoy the great sunbeams in this house. I am also thankful that the dogs and Nin are my minions.

The Lady: I am thankful for all the blessings in our lives. We have a great house, we have great jobs, we have great family and friends, and we have our health. Everyday I am thankful for my growing patience to help me deal with whatever life throws at me! I am always thankful for Blogville and all our Blogville friends too.

Happy Thanksgiving to all. Wishing you too much turkey and lots of love and laughter with friends and family.

Now the mischief.

Hailey: I would describe what happened as an over enthusiasm, not mischief.

See how far ahead Bar and Tendra got to go because
of Le and Phod's mischief.
Lady: It was mischief and bad behaviour. I was very upset by your behaviour. Here is what happened. 4 people and 4 dogs set off for a beautiful fall walk on Saturday. When we got to the end of our road, a woman was walking with her dog. This caused my 2 dogs (who have seen only like 5 dogs that were not the neighbours in the past year) to go crazy. Hailey was so out of control she was screaming and jumping and could not sit down. Phod was not as bad, he barked a bit, however, he wouldn't stop pulling and pulling. The strange dog past and our guests kept walking and we tried to use the strategies to help our dogs calm down. They failed. Our two were too wound up, so in the end, we turned around and came home. The dogs went in the house and Man and I planted the 2 trees and bush we had been given and the rest of our bulbs. This was because we needed a break from them.

Hailey: If you didn't want us to get so excited when we saw other dogs, you shouldn't have moved us to a place with so few friends to see on our walks. Or you should take us to the city to the dog park every day.  See this is clearly your fault. I call mischief on you!

Lady: Sigh! I will say that I was very proud of all 4 of you. We were able to go into the city for dinner and leave your 4 alone and you were all good. (The cats were safe and sound in the laundry room). I must admit, while your behaviour on Saturdays walk was not acceptable, for the most part you did an awesome job being hosts to 2 other dogs. You were also a good walker on Sunday. I am proud of you.

Hailey: Of course you are. I am awesome and I am glad you are finally appreciating my awesomeness. To my dog friends, was my behaviour mischief or just excitement?

Things to be Thankful For

Today, in the spirit of Thanksgiving, we are being thankful for being part of Blogville. It is a wonderful place to be. Lady says if the whole world could be like Blogville, it would be perfect.  Thank you to all our friends.

In this spirit we are happy to allow our Lady to accept the following award:

Thanks to Kat at http://usoncloud9.blogspot.ca for the Sunshine Award. We appreciate it! [even if it took us a while to formally accept it!]

The rules:
Share 11 random facts about yourself.

Answer 11 questions the nominating blogger has created for you.
List 11 bloggers.  They should be bloggers you believe deserve some recognition and a little blogging love!
Post 11 questions for the bloggers you nominate answer & let all the bloggers know they've been nominated.

11 Random Facts about me

1) The tub is my favourite place in the house.

2) I remember my dreams most nights. They are often very vivid and weird. I know I dream in colour and feel real pain in them. Some dreams stay with me for days and weeks.

3) I met 7 and remember 6 of my great grandparents.

4) I have a potty mouth. I love to swear.

5) If I didn't have the Man, I would likely become a dog hoarder!

7) I spend a lot of time in car. I amuse myself listening to CBC radio, autobooks, satellite radio, or working on my french.

8) I love doing laundry!

9) I inherited an ability to eat from my late Poppa. My Poppa and I had eating contests when I was a kid. After a big roast beef dinner, with seconds and dessert (my Nana could cook) he would challenge me to an eat off. I could eat a big bag of chips and a whole bag of cookies after dinner! [Not healthy I admit, but fun as a kid]

10) I sleep with a sleep mask and a stuffed bear.

11) I haven't eaten gluten for over a year

Kat's questions:

1) What's your nickname and how'd you get it?
Those who love me most use an abbreviation of my name, with either My or Miss in front of it. it has just always been the way it has been for my whole life! Only about 6 people can get away with calling me anything but my name.

2) If you won the lottery, what's the first thing you'd buy?
Land around me so no one can build.

3) What was the last thing you splurged on?
I am pretty good at not splurging . . . . . It was probably a fancy dinner.

4) Favourite chip flavour?
It is a tie, salt and vinegar and ketchup

5) What's your favourite movie?
The Muppet Movie - 1979

6) What are the 3 closest objects to you?
A dog toy, Zaphod's dish, the dining room table.

7) Where would you want your next vacation to be?
We are off to the Caymans this winter!

8) Who is your favourite author and what's your favourite book by them?
Timothy Findley, The Wars - but the truth is I love all his books except this last one, Spadework (it was the only one with a happy ending, go figure!)

9) What's your favourite season?
I think autumn is the prettiest
They all have their pros and cons, I don't really have a favourite

10) If you had $10,000 to donate to any charity, which charity would you choose?
The charity I work for part time that works with individuals with autism

11) What's your favourite piece of clothing?
Flannel PJs

My Questions to the nominees:
1) What books are you currently reading?
2) What is the one "special" object you would save from your house? (assume all the living creatures are safe and all the important papers etc are safe - think fun thing!)

4) What do you wish you had more time to do?
5) Would you be interested in taking a trip to space?
6) What is the last song you remember singing out loud?

8) What is your favourite food?
9) What is your least favourite chore?

Prize from Sammy and DON'T vote for us!

Last week Hailey won a prize from Sammy for the teacher's pet contest. We were all very excited to receive a parcel from him yesterday. Without further adieu, the prize! (This is just a sampling of the pictures Lady took of us opening it - she didn't want to bore you all)

How do you get into this thing?

I am not sure how you open this. Am liking the shape

Phod it is not for you, get out!

I am getting the hang of this opening.

Here I am with the card, the bacon smelling bone (which we both love), a new tug toy (that Lady has hidden so Phod can't just pull it apart. We have to play with it under supervision so it lasts a day or two), and a special treat of granola bars!

Taste test for the granola bars. They are delish!

Lee with the new bacon smelling bone!

A very special thank you to Sammy for such great prizes. Sending you a special Hailey hug!

 ____________

We were thinking today when we went to the Blogville Calendar Contest at http://www.heartlikeadog.com/2013/08/25/its-here/  that while it is lots of fun to enter contests and get people to vote for us, sometimes it is more fun to try and help a friend. So we are asking all our readers, not to go and vote for us or their other Blogville friends, but to go to Heart Like a Dog and vote for  Benny and Lily.  The proceeds of the calendar are going to go to Benny's treatment for liver cancer. He is fighting like a Frenchie - this is why we submitted a picture of us fighting! It would be a real shame if Benny wasn't in the calendar. So we are asking everyone, to go and vote for Benny and Lily! It is really easy to do. Let's work together to get Benny and Lily in the top 12! They have our vote for the next 5 days! If you take your smart phone off your Wi-Fi - it gets a different IP address and you can vote using it too!

PS: Don't worry about Hailey and Phod not being in a calendar, they are the stars of their own calendar every year!
