Mischief Monday - Stinky Guest
About two months ago Emma had a skunk encounter in her backyard. Lady told Uncle Chris he had to get rid of the smell before she came to stay with us. Being Uncle Chris (who says you get use to it, Lady says she does not want to get use to it) he did not. The first order of business before he left was to give her 1 of 2 peroxide, baking soda, soap baths.
Emma is a trooper and did a much better job then the 2 resident pups would have. However, the two baths have not eliminated the smell. We guess it has been on her too long. We hope over time it will go away.
Uncle Chris said "just don't get her wet and she won't smell as much." It is suppose to rain all week and it is suppose to be a wetter and cooler than usual summer sigh!

Being Weird
Wednesday was my first day home after a week away. I got to work at home, which was a nice transition for everyone (and nice for me to not have to get back into a car after an 8.5 hour drive the day before).
While the pups were over the moon Tuesday night at my return (Hailey just kept barking at me and my boy stayed extra close), they seemed back to their old selves Wednesday. However, around dinner time Hailey started to be weird. She started acting like she does when their is a storm or something coming. It was sunny out. I was in the kitchen cooking up batches of food for upcoming work lunches (I cook in bulk and freeze some), Hailey got one of her babies and stood acting scared.
The only thing I can think that may have been scary was the fact I was cooking!
Maybe she just wanted to keep me on my toes!

Flower Friday
Here is another flower from Lady's trip to Asia.
Hopefully soon we will have some flowers from Canada! (There are some out in the city, just not in the hills yet!)

Mischief Monday - Loving Another
Dearest Blogville,
As we reported yesterday, our Lady has been delayed in returning because she has stayed to help her parents out. As you remember, her dad, our Big Guy, is recovering for what he calls his awesome adventure (a very serious medical issue he was lucky to survive), and during her visit our Grammie got kidney stones. Our Grammie is an expert at the stones and while she hasn't had one for some time (she thinks close to 20 years), she estimates she has had over 100 in her lifetime. Lady is doing her best to keep her parents alive.
The mischief we would like to report today is that we know she is loving another. Bella, Roxy and Dui said it was ok if she didn't come home smelling like another. She is going to. Her parents have an 8.5 year old black lab named Tendra (named after Lady and her sister - it is the last 3 letters of Lady's name and the last 3 of Aunt C's name). Lady has confessed to us that she has been taking Tendra on daily walks (although with her arthritis Tendra can't walk nearly as far as us), and engaging in other activities to meet Tendra's daily needs. We know Tendra has been getting pets and giving kisses.
Lady did say we are much better at posing for pictures than Tendra. She could barely get Tenny to sit still. She says this is the best she could do. Tendra also kept licking the phone. Lady said it was funny.
Lady has assured us she loves us best and misses us (she has FaceTimed us). She assures us she is heading home tomorrow . . . . . . . .we will see!

SHE LIED
Lady's return has been delayed because our Grammie is unwell (kidney stones) and because she is a caring and loving daughter she staying a few days longer to help out. Our Big Guy is doing well but still needs support.
We are mad because she lied. Sigh! There is no picture of us cause Man didn't send her one. We hope he doesn't to teach her a lesson . . . . . .

Scary
While the Lady was gone for 87 million years and we were home with the Man and a terrible scary thing happened. We got a terrible storm. The power flickered. We were so scared we didn't want to eat our dinner (that is scared). The Man sent this picture to the Lady to show how we are hiding in the kitchen (we normally don't eat in this part, but this is where we wanted to be).
She will be home tomorrow . . . thank goodness!

NOT FAIR
Lee and Phod: The Lady has packed up 87 million bags to go away for 87 million days. She has left us with the Man. He doesn't get up at 5 to take us on a 3 km (1.8 mile) walk. And how is the Lady going to get her steps without us? The Man might not be as strict on our schedule. He doesn't always put special treats in our dinner. How are we going to live?!?!?!?!? To make it worse Lady has gone to a very fun place with beach and water and where we are allowed to go if she wasn't mean! Sigh!
The Lady: I have taken the 700 km (434 mile) drive to visit my parents. The last time I saw my dad he was still in the hospital (November 2016). While the dogs are welcome here I thought it would be a more relaxing visit for me and one where I could be more helpful without them. They are going to be just fine with the Man. I am returning Sunday, so it isn't quite 87 million years.

Tasty Tuesday - Puzzle Time
It was raining on Sunday and Lady didn't feel like doing our usual Sunday walk. So we did some fun indoor stuff instead.
We played a game of find it, and Lady messed with our minds by hiding the cookies downstairs in the living room and not in the kitchen/dining room.
Then we got puzzles.
It wasn't a walk, but it was a pretty fun wet Sunday afternoon!

See Beautiful - The Seasons
Lady is in the very slow process of cleaning out her digital pictures (it is going to take months as she has thousands to go through). She started with the most recent ones and came across this one:
There is something so beautiful in something the Lady generally doesn't like, that she had to keep this picture. The Man and Lee look so small in the big yard of snow. It does remind Lady if you look hard enough you can find beauty anywhere.

Tattling Thursday- Withholding
Last year we went to BAR (Blogville Awesome Retreat) in Indiana and met some of our blog pals in the furs. Our very good friends (we shared lunch under a table one day) Frankie and Ernie were kind enough to bring us gifts. Lady tucked a few of the toys away and only just pulled them out recently.
We love our ball, so we guess it is better late then never!

Tasty Tuesday - We Are Not Spoiled
Recently the Lady and the Man were out running errands and the Lady wanted to bring us back a treat. The Man said we were spoiled and needed nothing. The Lady got us treats anyway. She brought us back bully sticks!
Thanks to our Lady for not listening to our Man!

Mischief Monday - Rain, Rain, Rain by Phod
Dearest friends,
When I sit down to write this there is some serious flooding in the city of Gatineau, Quebec, about 30 km (18 miles) from our house (it is where the Man works). 390 homes have been evacuated, 689 people have left voluntarily, 142 pets are being helped by the Red Cross, almost 300 000 sand bags have been filled, over 117 mm (4.5 inches) of rain has fallen since May 1 and now 80 members of the military have arrived to help out. This follows the 7th snowiest winter on record and the 2nd wettest April on record. The highway Man and Lady use to get to town is now closed due to flooding. The government has closed the offices in Gatineau (meaning Man has the day off) and are begging people to not use the bridges over to Ontario, meaning Lady is working from home instead of going to the office.
Up here in the hills, it is wet but not dangerously so. We did have some water pooling near the base of the house in spots and it was getting high so the Man went out and dug some trenches and our little problem was solved.
I don't really like to be wet in the house and because the Man and Lady have been closing their bedroom door so I can't roll all over their bed to dry off (that really isn't nice) and because we don't have carpet, I have been doing my best to find suitable places to sit.
Lady laughed at me for picking the mat by her sink in the bathroom. I think it is the perfect fit!

Join us in sending good thoughts to all those who are seriously affected by the flooding in our area. The rain is suppose to stop today (and be rather light at only 5-10 mm) but a cold front is moving in and we have had some snow.
I think the weather is broken! But I have my Precious so I will be ok!

Our Sunday Walk
On Sundays when it isn't icy we go for a special walk. We walk down the road, past our favourite street, then down our second favourite street. Instead of staying in the valley, where there are a lot of good sniffs we go up the hill.
The road is called Sarrisan. It is very steep. It is perfect for a Sunday walk. Lady won't do it when it is icy because it is sooooo steep.
Our pictures don't really capture how steep it is. (Lady had us alone with her phone so it was hard)
This spring our walk has been extra special because there has been a piece of deer hid near the top that we get to sniff and roll on. Lady says as long as we don't try to eat it she is ok with us smelling it!

Flower Friday - Starting To Grow
Lady worked from home on Wednesday so we spent some time out searching for our first spring flowers.
We found some weeds - they are bright and pretty and show spring is really here!

Rain, Rain Go Away - by Hailey
April was the 2nd rainiest April on record. In fact we got more rain April 2017 then we did the entire combined months of April, May, June 2016. May hasn't been much drier. May 1st was the wettest May 1st on record and we have had rain every day since (although it did clear up late in the day yesterday for at least a bit).
Due to all this rain there is some flooding in the nearby city, Gatineau (it is where the Man works, but his work has not been effected). At least 50 homes have been evacuated. The water in the streets is so high, boats are needed to rescue people. We hope all the people and animals remain safe and that the continued rain ends soon.
Here are some pictures from cbc.ca.

With all that rain, I have found the best way to spend my days -
curled up in bed. Now if Lady would just put her phone down and let me sleep!

Tasty Tuesday - The Antler
The Man thinks I am evil as I only bought one antler at the pet store this week. The reason is, if there are two, they only ever chew one, and they still have half an antler they are chewing. Also, they do a pretty good job sharing.
They did such a good job when the new one, they did something rare, they shared the bed. Hailey wasn't thrilled that Phod joined her but tolerated it!

Mischief Monday - Go To Sleep!
During our blog break last week, our girl had not one, but two horrible nights.
Night one: Thursday night - reason first thunderstorm of the season.
The good: she didn't bark and when one of us got up and moved downstairs she was able to hid in the basement bathroom quietly. (we took turns sleeping down there, I ended up spending about 2.5 hours on the couch).
The bad: Prior to settling she was pacing and shaking and once I was awake, I was up for 1.5 hours or so.
Helping me work Friday morning |
Night two: Friday night - at 3 am she decided she needed to pee. She had refused to get up when the Man had tried to take her out before bed, so in some fairness to her she hadn't been out for probably 8 or 9 hours. She will be carried out in the future if necessary. I was only awake about an hour that night.
At the time of the writing of this post, it is really windy, so I fear another sleepless night and then the next two have a lot of rain . . . . .
More napping on Friday after the sleepless night |
