Nature Friday - Solo Adventure - by Lee

 Dear pals,

On Easter weekend I got to go on a solo adventure with my people. Phod was asleep in the closet and didn't know we had gone until we came back and I smelt a little funny. Lady has some guilt about leaving him, but the reality is, the old pup doesn't have the stamina he once did and would not have been able to hike like I did.

It started with a car ride to a place I had never been.

It was less than 15 minutes to the Denholm Falls Park. Lady had just discovered this even existed last fall and had been waiting to go. We looked at the map of all the trails and then headed out.

The first stop, a very short way from the start, was the falls. Callie's people had said it wasn't that impressive, but I thought with the snow run off it looked pretty good!

Then the hike really began. It was a very steep hike up a mountain in places. The leaves hid loose rocks and sticks and roots so one had to be careful with one's footing. We saw a few people (you can see over Man's shoulder) and I even met one dog on the path.

How did Lady get in front of me?

The view from the top was stunning!

If you look at the rocks I am standing on, you can see the marks left by glaciers 10 000 years aog.

It was decided not to do the full hike up the back side of the mountain as Lady and Man didn't know how steep it was or how much I could do. They are blaming it on me and my old self, but I think they say that because it is nicer than saying how out of shape they are. So we began the step decent down. Lady said she would take walking poles next time she went.

Proof Lady was with us

Overall, the hour and a half or so we spent hiking was lovely. I had a good time and really enjoyed this solo adventure. I heard hints that I may get a similar opportunity in the future, as it is clear I still have some hike left in me!

Thanks to Rosy and Sunny for hosting this event and letting me share a new part of the hills with you.

your pal, the hiker, Lee

Trouble on a Tuesday - Field Explorer - by Lee

First we start by acknowledging this:

Now on to the tale.

It started as a nice walk around the field. I was being the best listener. Then Lady called me back because Phod was being pokey.

I caught the scent of something and next thing I knew I was in the field behind the field I am allowed in. This is a farmers field and let me tell you, it has some good deer poop. The Man slide through the fence and got me.

The walk continued well until we got to the barn. I have known something was living there and imagine my surprise when I saw 2 kittens. Man was tying his shoe. Lady, uncharacteristically froze (she says thank you PTSD - you are really inconvenient). Anyway, there was running and yelling and a very angry mother cat, and a kitten in my mouth, who I did not shake or appear to hurt, I just held it.

Me waiting with Lady

The Man was angry and gave me to Lady while he went to see if he could see the kitten. He couldn't find it. Lady was upset and she thanked me for the opportunity to live with PTSD again. Phod had no idea what was going on and me, I was living my best life.

The field owners, who also own the barn, and Callie's people been told. They are all on alert for kittens. If some of Callie's people have their way, Callie will have a kitty sibling soon. I may not have the same off leash privileges in the field.

Adventure!

As we have mentioned Lady's parents have moved closer. Instead of a 9 hour drive it is about an hour and a half. They are very slowly settling into the new house.

Lady and Man had to go help them with more unpacking stuff. (At the rate they are going it will be 2 years before they are moved in fully.) Because their was thunder in the forecast and Lee is not on drugs, we got to go too!

Phod don't get sick in the car!

Hailey was beside her self excited!

There was so much to sniff and so much to do. We were very good pups and Grammie wasn't even mad when Lee pooped on the floor. Fortunately Lee (who had just been outside and pooped not 5 minutes before) went to the furnace room and not on the carpet.

I'll get the door for you.

Apparently we haven't unpacked the dog water bowl yet.

Glad my chair made the move.

So happy to be here!

Moving is hard work!

Mischief Monday - A Minor Escape - by Lee

One day last week Callie came over for a lunch time playdate. The Man thought I might enjoy playing with her more if I was off leash. I did, but after a few minutes I decided to use the opportunity to explore the neighbours yard. The trail cam, which was pointed at the composter to see what was digging it up, caught the escape.

Callie was a little nervous and didn't follow me all the way back to her home.  Lady says I was not being a good role model.

I only went over to the neighbour's garage (something I have never tried before but now that I have seen Callie come over, I know it is a thing). Man put me back on leash and I spent the rest of the playdate on leash.

The taste of freedom was totally worth it!

Mischief Monday - Oh Where Oh Where Have Our People Been

We are finally back safe and sound and what adventures we have had. 87 million hours ago, our people, who clearly do not love us, left us at puppy prison, a very lovely kennel. They were gone for a long time seeing things like . . . .

and

and

and

and

After some time, we started to get really worried that they were not home. We were sure they were lost and never coming back.

Using our excellent research skills, we deduced they may be in London, England. We thought to ourselves, who do we know who knows London and may be able to help us? Princess Leah of course! So we gave her  a call. She said as a London expert she would be thrilled to help us find our people.

After some searching, we found our peeps and Princess Leah and her peeps by this statue.

We had a lovely puppacino with Princess Leah and her wonderful peeps. It was so nice to get to meet, mostly in the furs.

Princess Leah was a great hostess showing us around and making sure our puppacino needs were met.

Princess Leah "Would you care for another?"

Princess Leah "Another round please."

We are grateful we found our peeps and got to meet our wonderful friends! It was a good way to end the trip.

Thank you Princess Leah for your help.

Be sure to pop over to Princess Leah's blog HERE for her side of the story.

Aside: The Man and Lady had a very eventful trip home. If you don't follow them on another social media, check out the news story about their flight home HERE. (Don't worry, other than a 22 hour delay home, the peeps were fine).

Another Walk

Lady messed up the time for this so some of you saw it yesterday! She clearly wasn't ready for August!

On Tuesday we shared our walk to the boat club. Today, we will share our walk to the south of the cottage.

On our way, we met this toad. Lee gave him a kiss, but he was not her prince.

The road on the way there.

The river we crossed over.

Lee checking out the river.

Lady didn't know this trail had a name. She just thought it was the way to . . . .

the lighthouse! This is the Point Clark Lighthouse. The lighthouse was built between 1855-1859. It is one of the few to be made primarily from stone. Lady, Lady's Dad, Lady's Grandmother and most likely her Great Grandmother have all climbed to the top.

This is our best lighthouse pose!

It was very hot, even at 7:30 am. The walk is about 1.5 km (almost a mile) one way to the lighthouse, and there is sooooooo much to smell.

We hope you enjoyed this walk today.

PS. Grammie and the Big Guy have been kind and let Lee sleep with them (we have fireworks and another thunderstorm). We are not sure if she slept, but she didn't keep the house up, so we are all ok with that!

Truck Trouble

Lady wasn't the only thing that got stuck last week, we had adventures with a delivery truck.

Our driveway is a little long. It has a slight curve in it and a slight hill. Last Thursday, a delivery truck (who was bringing us an envelop that was kind of junk mail) when backing out, appeared to not notice the curve and drove right into the snowbank and got himself really, really stuck.

Then he was really, really mad. There were definitely some HBO words said. He directed some of these toward the Man. He made comments about how he should have shovelled more. The Man said nothing and then spent an hour (when he was to be working) trying to help this guy out. Lady would have probably told him off and left him to figure it out alone. To defend our lane - as mentioned, it has a curve you can't drive it straight; where the guy ended up would have been well into the grass if there was no snow and finally, the UPS truck comes frequently (Lady does most of her shopping via Amazon) and that truck has never gotten stuck.

The stuck truck

In the end, a neighbour drove by (there are only 2 who live past us on our road) and he stopped. He then drove home to get a cable so he could tow the stuck truck out.

The whole thing took about an hour. Lady watched it through the front window using her binoculars. We dogs barked a lot, and then we had to bark at the back door because the fox came. We are sure if this truck has to come again, he won't come up our driveway!

Asian Adventure - Part Seven

Today brings us to the end of our trip to Asia. Our cruise ended in Singapore. Unfortunately, about 200 of my pictures of this really cool city were damaged somehow and I haven't taken the time to try and recover them (I was able to recover 100).

On our last day, we left the cruise ship, took a cab to the airport where we left our bags as our flight was at 1:20 am the following day. Then we took the train back to the city and wandered around.

I really liked Singapore. It is my best friend's favourite city, and I can see why. I would like to go back. It was clean and easy to get around. My only complaint was it was very, very hot. It was 35C/95F with 100% humidity. A day of walking around at the end of a trip was exhausting.

One of the things I loved about the city was that there was art everywhere. Some of the pictures show this.

This is where we came off the subway from the airport.

Downtown - near the harbour

Random art

A very British Building

More water front

A reminder that Singapore is 142 km/88 miles from the equator

The bum boat we took the river tour on

Famous Sands Hotel

The Lion Fountain - there is a story about the lion that was seen here

Art I don't understand but similar to a golden piece I saw in Tokyo

I wouldn't suggest copying this piece of art!

The old restored warehouses. Back in the shipping days, bum boats would bring materials from the big ships into the harbour to these warehouses. Many are restaurants now.

Contrasting the old with the new

We arrived in Singapore the night before we disembarked. Taken from the ship

When I was going through the tour book we brought with us, the one thing I wanted to do, was to go to Raffles Hotel's Long Bar, the home of the original Singapore Sling.

You can still eat peanuts and throw the shells on the floor here!

A very hot Lady drinking the most expensive drink she has ever had. $30 Canadian or Aussie/$23 US/$22 Euro/$18 British Pound

I hope you all enjoyed our trip to Asia. I enjoyed sharing it with you!
