FFHT - Halloween Eve by Hailey

Today I am participating in Murphy and Stanley's FFHT. The rules are simple, write a post using the target sentence. I hope you enjoy my spooky tail!

It was a dark and stormy night, the wind was howling, and if I hadn't been on my Prozac, I would have dug a hole through the wall.

I was pacing the floor  resting peacefully when I heard a tap at the door. It was very faint and at first I thought it just the wind. I quickly realized something was there.

Pushing my fear away, I raced like a mad woman carefully went to the door. There was no one there. Only the jack-o-lateen sitting on the porch, the light dancing in the wind. I turned to go back to bed, when I heard the tapping again. I turned and again nothing was there. This repeated several times until finally, I had enough and was leaving the front door area to go curl up in bed.

As I was about to enter my bedroom, the light from the pumpkin caught my eye. There was Red John, the evil Red Squirrel, standing, holding the jack-o-lateen over his head. It looked like he was going to throw it at the house.

I set of my bark alarm, which drew the attention of my people. They slow and reluctantly in a grump, came racing to see what was wrong. They saw the jack-o-lateen laying on it's side. "The wind" they said, as they blew out the candle and brought it in.

I knew the truth. Red John was going to use the jack-o-lateen as a Malotov cocktail. If I hadn't been so alert, that wily squirrel may have gotten the best of us. And that my friends is why "After that I never turned my back on another pumpkin."

FFHT - Living With The Obsessed

Today we are participating in Murphy and Stanley's FFTH. The rules are simple, write a post using a target sentence.

---------------------------

Phod has a ball obsession. He will play fetch until he is sick or can barely walk. We have to limit it to keep him healthy.

We keep his ball aka Precious (we are on Precious the 3rd) in a basket inside the garage door. What is suppose to happen is that while I go in to get Hailey's leash and Precious and the chucker, he is to sit and wait in the front hall.  Sometimes this happens, and sometimes it doesn't. It depends how excited he is. Earlier this week he was so excited that when I came in from the garage with Precious he started jumping around like a crazy dog and landed hard on my foot And that's why my toes turned purple. Ok, it wasn't really my toes, it was my foot, but you get the idea. It hurt like heck! Now I am extra careful to tell him to sit and wait as I am coming back in from the garage.

FFHT - A Conversation About Our Problem

Thanks to our pals Murphy and Stanley for organizing this.

Hailey: Lady we have a problem.

Lady: What is it Lee?

Phod: It isn't me, is it? I am trying so hard to be good. I just want you to love me and keep me forever.

Hailey: Phod, they have put up with my shenanigans for nearly 5 years, you are safe bud. No, the problem is it is FFHT and we haven't got a post.

Lady: You said you wanted to do it this time, so what is the problem?

Hailey: I have to write about something embarrassing and I don't get embarrassed.

Phod: Me neither, I get ashamed and not embarrassed.

Hailey: Besides, anything that might have been embarrassing you have told. Yes everyone, I like to lick my butt. I like to eat poop. I fart when I stretch. These are just part of who I am.   Hmmmm, maybe there is something embarrassing about Lady.

Phod: Lady is great and perfect and we don't want to upset her because we want to live with her forever.

Lady: I think Phod has some great points there Hail.

Hailey: Let's see lately . . . . well you didn't get organized enough to get us in the demolition derby, but that is more annoying than embarrassing. Hmmmmm, I can't think of anything. Phod are you sure you can't think of anything?

Phod: No. I have nothing.

Hailey: Well I don't know what we are going to do, our post has to have the phrase "It would be really embarrassing if everyone knew"  and we have nothing.  Our post won't count!

Lady: Ummm, LeeLee, you just used the phrase. I think it is ok.

Hailey: How embarrassing, I didn't notice.

Phod: Can we play ball now?

FFHT - Phod's Annual Check Up

Today is Murphy and Stanley's FFHT. For this post you have to use one sentence, it will be in red in the story.

Yesterday was Phod's annual check up at the vet. Step one was getting him into the car. He went outside with me happily enough, but when he realized Hailey wasn't coming too, he went by a tree and made himself as flat as possible. I had to carry him to the car. I couldn't lift him all the way in, so I put his front paws in and stood behind him until he jumped in. This took about 5 minutes and I wished I had someone tape it.

He did well on the drive. He was happy to look out the window. He drooled but was not sick. It was the first time he ever had eaten that day and not thrown up in the car. Mind you I only gave him half his breakfast.

Phod was a champ at the vet. He was a little nervous, but in control. Friendly to others and cooperative during his exam.

Here is the summary of Zaphod:

Weight: 75 lbs (34 kg) - he is perfect and needs to maintain this
Teeth: A little wear but great (Man was worried)
Ears: Has a yeast infection again. We will clean it up and then make sure we are cleaning his ears at least 2 times a week. Shepherds have a lot of ear infections.
Joints: I have noticed some stiffness, especially in his hips. Woody did a full exam and didn't notice anything.  He said it is hard to tell just from feeling and listening in a large dog, but he isn't too worried. He suggested that since it is an always occurrence we don't do any more tests on it now. He said to try some glucosamine. He said it may or may not work, but there are no real side effects so worth trying. He gave us the dose and said to go to Costco because it is cheaper.  The Man wants to take some, so we will pick some up for the boys in our house!
Overall: He is great!

Now on to the Hailey talk:
First, I had noticed that a lot of foods say adult to age 6, so my first question was, should she start senior food in the winter?  He said no - she will be fine until she is 8 or 9.

Next anxiety - we talked about our options and ended up with prozac. We will pick that up tomorrow (hopefully our little drug store will have it) and try it for 30 days to see it if it helps. The main side effects are weight gain and overeating. We will watch her carefully.

This visit was very much a dog focused visit, which is totally different from Hailey's visit in the spring where we just chatted about the family. (Woody and I have been friends for 21.5 years now, so my visits are social and medical).

Tomorrow cousin Emma and Uncle Chris are coming for a visit, yay!

Catch up with you all soon!

FFHT -Feline Friday - A Story by Nin

Thanks to Murphy and Stanley for hosting this fun event.  Here is Nin's story.

Once my people put something on my head. (translation by Hailey)
What head is?
What people is?
It was really, really embarrassing!
What embarrassing is?

What off is?
What photo is?
So I just sucked it up and hoped it was over soon.

FFHT - Smells

Today is Murphy and Stanley's FFHT.

Around our place, the tell tale sign that winter is gone is not that the snow has finally gone. Nope, it is a new odour that fills the air. Spring has a special smell. It smells like

dirt and grass and
After a good roll

wet dog!

Phod in a puddle

Friday, March 27, 2015

It is the last Friday in the month, so it is time for FFHT!

Thanks to Murphy and Stanley for organizing this fun event.

Today's story takes place a long time ago, in an apartment high up in the sky (well, not that high, it was the 6th floor).

In this apartment, there lived a wild panther name Bagheera. He was a fierce beast who had slain the curtains and had learned to hunt for bread by opening the freezer. Like all good panthers, Bagheera occasionally liked to play in the water. He would hop up on the counter and play in the sink. He was very curious about the tub.

One day, the Man was having a peaceful bath in the tub. Panther Bagheera was on the edge playing in the water. Then, without warning, our brave panther slipped into the tub. There was screaming. The Lady came running to find a very wet and unhappy cat, and to see the tub water turning red. When the panther had fallen in, he had scratched up the Man. The Lady found this very, very funny, and nearly died laughing. (She is not the kind of person you want around if you want everything to be all serious and quiet. She finds almost everything funny.)

She knew, she and the Man would remember this forever because of the scar left on the Man's belly. After this, the panther Bagheera was more cautious around water, but until he was a very old cat, did occasionally like to play in it. However, he was never invited back to bath time!

FFHT - Zaphod's Tail

Today we are participating in Murphy and Stanley's FFHT. It is easy to do. Write a post with this month's key phrase.

Today's Tail is brought to you by Zaphod

-------------------------
Once upon a time, there was a handsome dog who didn't have a name. He lived with the cruelest of people and after slaying a dragon, he escaped.

On his own, he wandered the streets, weary of people. One day, he was captured by a man and taken to jail. This handsome dog thought, "this is the end". But he was wrong. A nice lady came and took him out of jail and took him to a house.

At this house, the handsome dog was named Zaphod. While he was a little nervous to be with people, his gentle nature made everyone who met him fall in love with him. He lived with this nice lady for a few weeks. She told him, this was temporary, some day he would have a forever home.

Zaphod was nervous about this. What if evil people were at his forever home? What if he had to run away and live on the streets again. What if?

Finally, his day came. Zaphod was taken to his new home.

While it took a bit of time, Zaphod finally realized "It was so much better than I could ever have imagined."

He has people who love him

A sister to chase

A sister to wrestle with

Lots of food to eat

Bush to explore

Water to swim in and things to fetch

He lived happily ever after.

Wordy Wednesday - FFHT

Because of the holidays Murphy and Stanley are holding their FFHT today. The challenge is to use the target sentence (and for December there are two sentences) in a post.

Here we go!

It was Christmas Eve and Hailey and Zaphod were pacing, waiting for Santa.

Hailey: "He is never coming."
Phod: "Maybe we have been so naughty he won't come."
Lady: "You have both been very good pups. But I think you should know, Santa only comes to houses where the pups are sleeping."

Quickly both Lee and Phod curled up and went to sleep.

Phod feel into the deep sleep of a pup who listens very well. Lee on the other hand was plagued with dreams. In her dream, she and Phod were elves, working with Santa in the North Pole. It was their job to wrap the gifts for all the good kitties in the world, which was ALL the kitties in the world.

While wrapping the 87 millionth cat nip mouse, Hailey asked the elves, why all kitties get gifts. She knows some kitties were a bit evil. The elves laughed and laughed and laughed and then the chubby elf says "Santa leaves all kitties gifts whether good or bad because he knows if he doesn't he will get covered with scratches and bites and would have to go to the hospital and wouldn't be able to finish his deliveries. It is safer for him to just put them all on the nice list."

Hailey sighed. It explained why threatening Baggy with the loss of Santa never worked. For a brief moment she thought maybe she would like to be a cat so she could act however she wanted and would still get gifts. Then she remembered she couldn't go outside as much as she was a cat and decided she would try and be a good dog instead.

Halloween - Fractured Fryday Hairy Tails

We are participating in Murphy and Stanley's Fryday Fractured Hairy Tails.  The rule is this post needs to have one key phrase in it.

Here is a Story By Hailey.

---------------------------------------------------------

It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon of a long weekend. I was having a great time with my cousin Emma when Lady came to the kitchen with a special black box.

As she started pulling costumes out, I knew there was no turning back now. It was Halloween time, and we were going to have to amuse Lady by modelling a bunch of stupid costumes.

We hope you have enjoyed the pictures of the other torture the last week and a half more than we enjoyed posing in them!

Here is our official Halloween picture for 2014

Hmmmm, is Lady trying to say something by her choice over who is angel and who is devil?

Happy Halloween!

Fractured Fryday Hairy Tails - I can't believe I ate - by Phod

Today is the 2nd Fractured Fryday Hairy Tails organized by our pals Murphy and Stanley. The rules are simple, you can post whatever you want, but it needs to contain the key phrase.

Here is our Tail by Zaphod

I am a very good dog when my people are eating. I do not beg or carry on like Hailey does. I just lie on the floor waiting for my people to be done, no matter how good dinner smells.

Some nights I am lucky and get called over for treats, usually of the meat variety (my favourite). Well a week or so ago, the Man called me over for a new treat. As you know, I am usually very, very picky about what I eat. I turn my noise up at many things (unlike Hailey who is a garbage pail who will eat anything). I can't believe I ate corn on the cob and liked it!

At first I wasn't sure how to eat it, I tried to gnaw the whole thing.

Trying to gnaw it

But soon I figured it out and ate very daintily.

Chewing little pieces off

Now I know I like corn. Lady says all her dogs to date have loved a little gnaw on the corn. Do you like corn?

Fractured Fryday Hairy Tails - by Hailey

Today we are participating in Murphy and Stanley's:

The rules: Take the target sentence or inclusion statement and write whatever you want!

Here is our story:

My ears perked up as I heard the wheels on the gravel. It wasn't my Man or Lady's vehicle, it was big vehicle. I barked and barked and barked and barked as the UPS guy left a huge box on the front porch.

I had to wait for 87 million hours for Lady to get home and bring the big box inside. When she put it on the floor, I sniffed it. It smelt like dirt and something else I couldn't put my finger on. After a good sniff, it was time to open it.

“When I opened the box I was startled to find . . .”

Darth Groundhog!

Picture from: www.funnywildlife.com - without permission

He leaped out of the box with his light sabre. He was yelling something in Groundhog language I didn't understand while he was waving his light sabre. He was very angry (maybe because of that incident recently with Junior . . . .)

I was momentarily so stunned I couldn't move, but then as he came closer I knew what to do.

I picked up the box, dropped it on his head, causing him to drop the light sabre. I kicked it out of the way, we dogs don't need things like light sabres, we have paws and jaws! I grabbed Darth Groundhog by the tail, put him back into the box, sealed the box.

I scratched at the door until Lady opened it. She let me out and I dragged my box outside.

I stood over it as it was bouncing with angry Darth Groundhog sealed inside, deciding what to do.

Should I mail the box back to timbuktu?
Should I drag it to the lake and drown him?
Should I bury it in the yard?
Should I left him go and try and call a cease fire and work on a peace treaty?????

Let me know what you think I should do!
