Mischief Monday - A blast from the past

Today's post isn't about the current dogs mischief, rather it is about a dog named after the Norse god of mischief, Loki, and our angel Gemini, and what I am sure they would have called mischief.

The following pictures were taken Loki's last Halloween - 2009. He died in May of 2010. At the time these pictures were taken, he was dying. (For those of you newer to the blog, Loki had immune mediated hepatitis that caused cirrhosis of the liver). Halloween would have been about 4 months after his diagnosis. To give us the extra time with him, he was on a crazy drug cocktail, that we adjusted every 2-4 weeks. Loki took all this like a champ (and for the record his suffering and discomfort were very, very low once he got diagnosed and we started treatment). He was a friendly, joyful, not obedient, pup. To reward this, I decided to dress him up for Halloween. His face (and Gemi's) show how they felt.

Getting Ready for the Big Day

Last weekend, the Man put up some of his Halloween decorations. As we mentioned, it is his favourite holiday. Even though we live on a private road with like 6 houses and get no trick or treaters he still decorated. [He has been so busy he didn't get inside done this year].

Here we are inspecting:
"I think it should be a little more to the right."

"Phod, I think it meets our standards."
"I agree."

"The pumpkin should be moved back a little."

Is Halloween a big deal in your house?

Feline Friday - At the Watering Hole

The stealth panther sneaks up to the watering hole.

He checks to make sure the enemy is busy

She is.

Starting tomorrow we start our tribute to Halloween - it is Man's favourite holiday!

Good bye Dear Friend

Our Lady is a firm believer that no good every came of a Thursday, and she got her proof tonight. She just saw on Twitter that our dear friend Benny has lost his battle to liver cancer. He bravely fought like a Frenchie, inspiring everyone around him.
While we are always saddened to hear about the illness of anyone in Blogville, Lady found Benny's story hit a different place in her heart. She thinks it is because her first dog Loki had a liver disease and he too had to fight and died too young.

Our hearts go out to Lily and Benny's mom.

Benny, thank you for touching our lives. You will remain a hero in our hearts forever. Run Free!

Training Thursday - Review of Busy Buddy Tug-A-Jug

Hailey swinging her jug
One of the puzzle toys I purchases for Lee was Busy Buddy's Tug-A-Jug. Originally, like all the new puzzle toys, Lee was a little nervous of it, but quickly this became her favourite new toy.

Pros:
-It can hold a lot of food, so if you wanted to use this to replace dish feeding, it would hold a lot.

-So far it has been very durable (mind you, neither of my dogs really throw it around)

-It is easy to fill (the bottom screws off).

-It was fairly easy for Lee to figure out (so if you have a dog new to puzzles, it may be a good place to start)

-Although easy, it only gives a treat or two at a time if the dog is just pulling the rope, so it takes some time to get all the food out.

-The rope makes it easy for Hailey to carry it around

-Hailey loves it!

Cons:

-It is made of plastic, so it is very loud when being played with on our ceramic or laminate floors (thankfully Hailey likes to take it to one of her beds)

-Hailey figured out she could bunch her one bed up and have the cookies pour out, so I have to make sure she doesn't have access to that bed (For some dogs it may be too easy)

-It is a pain to clean. The plastic is ok to clean, but the rope is hard to clean and takes forever to dry (several days) - which means you can't use it for several days. We had one incident when we had company and after Lee had little puzzle time, I put it up, without opening it or checking it. When I went to get it a few days later, due to her saliva and the couple treats left inside, it was growing mouldy and was very gross. [While I admit this was my fault, it is something to keep in mind]

Given the issues with keeping it clean, I give it  3 out of 4 paws.

Note: The opinions expressed in this post are mine. I independently purchased this toy and am sharing my thoughts about it. The company doesn't know I am doing this.

Power of the Paw for Benny

We just heard Benny needs our good vibes to help him fight like a Frenchie.

Please pop over Here to send your wishes.

Thinking of you Benny!

Helping out in the yard

First - sorry we didn't get to visit all our friends yesterday - our internet has been sick since Sunday - it is suppose to be all better today.

On Sunday, we got to help out with some yard work. It is autumn, which means that winter is coming soon. One of the tasks the people have to complete before the snow falls, is to move 4 cords of wood from a pile to the shed.

Here we are helping:

This was the pile before we started on Sunday - note - Lady had already moved some

Here is Hailey inspecting to make sure the wood is ok.

This is our second garage or shed - this is where the wood has to move to

This is our septic field - you can see the pile of wood on the right.
The wood is going to the second garage (or shed as they call it) which is under
the deck to the left. The 2 garage doors you see are for the cars.

Phod testing some of the wood to make sure it is ok.

Are you helping your people get ready for the next season?

Mischief Monday - She says mischief, I say help - by Lee

Dear Blogville,

Please help settle a dispute Lady and I are having. Sunday was fill the bucket day.

I believe I was helping. She says I was causing mischief. What do you think?

---------------------------------------------------

We would also like to take a moment of silence to pay tribute to everyone's friend Mr. Pip.  He was a wonderful little guy, who brought so much joy. He will be sadly missed. We think of him and eat cheeseburgers in his memory.  Run free Pip!

Teaching Lee the Joy of Ball

Lee has never really loved to play fetch. When we lived in the city and took her to the park, she might chase her ball a couple of times and then would leave it to go and smell things. She would steal other dogs balls to get them to chase her. Slowly we are working on getting her to play for short periods of time. She seems to like it (I think mostly because she knows Phod really, really wants the ball). Here she is in action. You may notice her tie out in some of the pictures. Lee can be "off leash" in the yard if she has the tie out, not tied to anything on.

I love her muscle in this picture

Can you see the ball?
