Readers,
First, Lady says to tell you she is sorry she hasn't been around and won't be around because life is very busy the next few weeks. Even though Lady is very busy, she and Man had the stupid idea to help Lanie.

Refill your coffee or tea and get ready for the rest of the story.
You would have thought any sane people would have just let Lanie be after the skunk incident. But no. The people planned a way to set the trap where they were more sure a skunk couldn't get in. Tuesday morning around 3 am, the Man woke the house up to say we had a Lanie and carried a hissing cat to the prison they had made in a large dog crate in the guest room.
Tuesday, Man tried to get a vet appointment for Lanie, but they could only see her Wednesday. So she was held captive in the crate until Wednesday.
Then the Man, wearing work gloves attempted to get a Lanie in a carrier. Let's say this was very loud, with banging and yelling and ended with Man requiring medical attention. (FYI, one does not need a rabies shot for a cat bite in our area, just tetanus and antibiotics). But before taking care of himself, the Man took Lanie to the vet. There, they would not see her and sent Man home with special food and gaba to help mellow her out.

The next day, after his trip to the ER, Lanie was off to the vet again (the carrier was put in her prison and she happily got in before Man tried). A stoned Lanie cooperated with the exam and the shots and all the things. The cat expert gave the Man some hints to help her (i.e. give her the whole room now, make sure it has some hiding places, spend an hour a day in the room with her, just being waiting for her to come to you etc.).
If you are curious about this cat - she is about 1.5 years old and weighs in at 7lbs. Lady and Man don't really see her. She is eating the food, drinking the water, using the litter. She sings the song of her people once or twice in the night, but other than that, we don't hear her. The train cam is now in the room so we will see what she does when the people aren't around.
You may be wondering what the next steps for this girl are. For now, until her spay November 24, she will live in our guest room. Lady and Man will spent about an hour a day in the room with her. After the spay and her recovery, Lady and Man will see where we are and what the next reasonable steps are. Given how this has all gone, the next reasonable steps will likely not be that reasonable.
The bottom line is at this moment, they don't know if Lanie can ever be a house cat, or if she will need to be re-released. They are not making this decision now. For now, they are giving her a safe, clean place, meeting her where she is at and seeing what happens. She is currently exempt from hat tax.
Everyone needs a hobby. Apparently this can be one.
