What could possibly have caused mischief this week here in our slice of paradise?
Our house on a summer evening |
This week's winner is the birds! Finally, last week, they were about to start rebuilding our deck (which also means finishing the demolition) and the day before it started, Man discovers the following:
So now morally (and actually legally), while there is a chance this may be a viable nest (momma bird is around), construction on at least this side of the deck is on hold. Lady hasn't been able to identify the bird yet, but likely some sort of sparrow.
When this was discovered, and after all the internet research on nest removal, Lady wasn't sure if she should laugh or cry. She went with laughing. She also had a moment of, if he had come and done the demolition earlier, this never would have happened. But here is where we are and we just go with what the universe has given us. Lady and Man will be monitoring this next over the coming weeks and we will give you an update!
Mom's first thought was a barn swallow because they they build nests out of mud. We looked them up and it seems their eggs are spotted and these don't look spotted. Be careful, Hailey and Phod. You don't want to get dive bombed by mom or dad birdie!

ReplyDeleteOOOOHHH, well, I hope that the delay proves worth it and you get some lovely little fledglings to add to nature's count... hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
Murphy's Law, its every where! If anything CAN happen it probably will...
ReplyDeleteWe know Lady will do the right thing for the sparrows.
ReplyDeleteWe're sure that is some sort of swallow nest as sparrows never build nests attached to buildings like that. Sorry to hear your demo and new construction are on hold but we are also excited to see who is nesting there.
ReplyDeleteWe are pretty sure you all have had your quota of mischief for the year....we sure hope the eggs hatch fast!

Wow. Nature always finds a way.
ReplyDeleteWe hope mommy birdie comes back and hatches her eggs … so you can finish building your deck. We had a robin build a nest right on top of a light on the front of the garage. Problem was, at that time we had the AC guys, the generator guys, and Dad stomping through the garage to get to the back yard. I guess momma robin was so upset about the commotion, she moved elsewhere.
