Since we move to the country, we have shared our yard with groundhogs. As some of you may remember a few years ago, the groundhog known as Goldie, had babies. We had only seen one, who unfortunately found his/her way into Hailey's jaw. The day after baby became an angel, we saw a second, we named Lazarus.
Our pal Lazarus had a very good hibernation. He or She has been very busy at the back of our house building a burrow. It actually looks like a freshly dug grave.
If you look closely to the left you can see the hole |
Position of the burrow from the house |
As seen torturing Hailey out the basement patio door - the burrow is just below |
Lazarus has been seen often in the yard. Phod often runs to the burrow to visit, but so far, Lazarus has been safe. Let's hope that continues all spring!
Awww, so cute. How lovely to have such interesting wildlife right in your backyard!!!!

i would just love love love to see a groundhog.. and i did laugh at the met Haileys Jaw comment... anything living that comes in our back yard has to deal with Jake Jaw...
ReplyDeleteOMD Lazarus will be Lucky if Lee and Phod Let him aLone for the Long summer that Looms.
ReplyDeleteThat reminds us of the great ground hog crisis of we forget what year. A ground hog somehow got into our fenced yard. We doggies chased it around and had it cornered. It was very mean and nasty. But then it turned and darted into the back door of the garage. Our humans then closed the door with us doggies barking and scratching and howling outside of it! The ground hog ran around under all of Dad's junk in the garage, but finally noticed the front of the garage was open and he made his escape. We doggies are still mad about the humans letting our ground hog get away!
ReplyDeleteMom thought she had a groundhog in our yard, but it had a rat like tail. Upon further research she believes we are residing with a gopher.
ReplyDeletethat would be pretty cool to have in the back yard
ReplyDeleteYay for Lazarus! I hope he or she stays safe! We've had some groundhogs pop up around here and Zoe is WAY too interested in them!
ReplyDeleteLazarus looks as big as a beaver! I hope Lazarus avoids Lee's jaws of death. Good luck, Lazarus.
ReplyDeleteAroo to you,
Sully
Paws crossed here too, that Lazarus stays safe.
ReplyDeleteToodle pip!
Bertie.
Lazarus is a cutie! In case you decide to plant any flowers, kiss them goodbye before you go back into the house. Groundhogs love flowers.
ReplyDeleteWe had one of them in our back yard at our old place. We called him Big Boy. He was bigger than us
ReplyDeleteHow cool! Does he make weather predictions?
ReplyDeleteYours sincerely,
Margaret Thatcher
That's cool!
ReplyDeletehere is hoping their paths don't cross!
ReplyDeleteOMD, I would bark my arse off at Lazzy! I wonder if they are good chasin'.....
ReplyDeleteKisses,
Ruby ♥
I hope Lazarus stays safe! We have a groundhog family in the yard too, they actually have holes and passages running through multiple yards. The adults are so big, they remind us of bear cubs! I love it when I see new babies. :)
ReplyDeleteLazarus returned BOL! I am a Church Dog, so I got that one, BOL! I tried to chase a pair of groundhogs across a golf course when I was only 1 year old, but when I got close, I realized they were bigger than me and I turned around and went back to Mom, who was frantically calling and running after me!
