Mischief Monday - Doing My Job - By Zaphod

Dear friends,

As you know I am a very friendly guy. I love people and I want my people to be happy. However, sometimes I have to do my job and protect them.

It is summer here and people walk on our private road a lot more than the rest of the year. I break the rules and run onto the road to say hi. I startle the people, but I am usually quiet and good and come right back after my hello.

But on Friday, I had to be a little more serious. I heard people and I ran off to say hi. Then, I had to do something unusual, I barked. I barked at these people. I still came back when Lady called me, but I had to bark a lot. You see my friends, a Lady and a Man who were walking down my road were not people I know. He was a Man walking with a stick. I learned as a young lad, that sticks can be a threat and I just needed to protect my Lady and Hailey who were in the yard. I did come back but when the people passed the drive way, I had to run down and bark again. I stopped right at the edge of the driveway (ok one step over) but told them to stay way.

Lady said the people were nice. They stopped and smiled and waved. When I came back I had to go into the house. I wasn't allowed to get my precious ball I had dropped during the protecting (I found it later). There has been "training" since this incident. I maintain I did my job. The Man with the stick didn't come near my Lady. I kept her safe.

What do you think?

  1. Phod....bless your for sure did your job and I am proud of you. Probably the Lady wants your protection in a case when a stranger is too close to her and being loud and scary. You must live near a hiking trail
    Hugs madi your bfff

  2. you are a super doggie-guard, I've learnt that sticks can be a weapon and therefore all people with sticks are on my barking-list. now your dad knows that your Lady is in the bestest paws :o)

  3. You were ABSOLUTELY doing your job! I think you deserve extra treats for that grreat work. A STICK!? What is this world coming to?

  4. Hey Phod!
Wow, you we so very good! I think you did an excellent job protecting you Lady from strange, armed peeps. Sticks are for dog-fetching and anything else is scary. You were right fur sure. I always go berzerk when anyone strays into my territory. I'm so very proud of you!
    Grr and Woof,
    Sarge, Police Commish

  5. We think you did a GREAT job protecting your Lady Phod....sometimes those humans just don't know what's best for them!
    Dory, Jakey, Arty & Bilbo

  6. we would of barked a warning to at someone carrying a stick

  7. I think you did good. I mean what wold they say if you didnt do your job and something happened. So..I say WTG!!

  8. Hari OM
Unequivocally, you were on the task!!! Admittedly, there are ways and ways of telling those folks who enter your territory that there are markers... perhaps that is what the training is about? Stick to doing your job Phod, but maybe reduce by two or three pawshakes? Good Boy!!! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  9. Your lucky they didn't scream at you. Mom screams at charging dogs cause it's terrifying. But we would scream at that stick too
    Lily & Edward

  10. We know where you're coming from on the protection thing. Its just something we have to do. Sometimes (deaf) Trail even tries to protect the yard from birds. Yesterday it was a bald eagle flying over that he barked at.

Just be careful to not get too close if the people aren't on your property. You don't want anyone to complain about you doing your job.

  11. Well I am certainly glad to know your protecting your people!!!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!

  12. We think it was worth a discussion for clarification of the situation. BUTT you should never be deprived of Precious!

    Your Pals,

    Murphy & Stanley

  13. It's a tough job protecting your peeps, but you're doing it well!

Dui barked at a man with two tiny boys at the river the other day, but SHE made Dui go meet them.

  14. Good job to just put one foot off the driveway Phod.Gotta protect what is yours
    Mr Bailey, Hazel & mabel

  15. Good job! Everyone needs a good watch dog!

  16. We think you did a great job protecting your lady, Phod. You just never know where danger might be.

  17. Phod you were so brave to protect your mom and Hailey that way. We don't think you did anything wrong.

  18. I don't blame ya, I bark at everyone!!

  19. I think you should be very proud of yourself.

    Ziggy Out!!

  20. Zaphod! Cinnamon loves yous!!!

  21. We both agree, you did 100% the right thing! We're proud to call you our friend!
    Wally & Sammy

  22. You did what you felt you had to do, Phod. Sometimes doing the right thing doesn't go the way we hope it will!

  23. Well Phod, Mazie is the same way. There are certain people (especially men with hats) that Mom must be protected from (that comes from her years of abuse too). Mom has tried to help her get over this, but sadly, she is very afraid of them and she just has to come in the house when she sees the "bad" men. It's OK.
