Mischief Monday - The Mice Are Winning - by Lee

 Dear pals,

The mice are currently winning. It is not just the 15 we have had, everyone has mice. Our neighbours have never had a problem until this year. They said when they were out buying traps, the store was almost out and everyone in the aisle was saying they had never had such a problem.

Last week we had to replace the hose for the Man's windshield wiper fluid in his car and the drainage hose from the dishwasher because mice chewed them!

Is the problem the unseasonably warm temperatures? Lady is writing this post sitting outside in shorts. It is about 17C /62F.  There is no new construction around us.

I don't like this leaf game either!

Come back tomorrow to read about a solution that we considered to our problem.

  1. we haven't seen them by now... but we are afraid we end as mice-rable like last year

  2. Hari Om
Mercy me... I know a couple of vanlifers who have been having mice trouble (in Illinois) so maybe it is not just up there with you that the population is making itself felt. Could it be because it has been so dry with you? ...that could explain why there is not a problem here... if were were to have an infestation it would have to be water rats! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  3. Yes, I remember mice built a nest under the hood of my car and chewed something or other, when we had to park outside in New Hampshire.....We never found a good solution, although our Standard Poodlish would come to our "rescue" every now and then.....

  4. cant wait to hear the solution. this is very odd. and also odd to us in Florida is that you think 17c is warm enough for shorts. at 17 I pull out a jacket.. ha ha

  5. We have this same problem every year, but the mice usually wait for the cold weather to head inside to our basement. Luckily, they have always stayed down there and never come up to the living quarters of the house. It's our dad's job to take care of ridding the basement of our unwelcome visitors.

  6. Thankfully we don't have mouse...we have chipmunks but they are outside. YIKES on the number that are around you too. jerry, Bryan's train buddy lives on a wooded lot in a neighborhood. The yard is all natural sticks, twigs etc which I guess making for excellent mouse houses.
Jerry drives a huge Yukon from almost the first week of owning it he has had hoses etc replaced due to the mouse. Evidently there is some kind of lubricant on the hoses that the mouse love. All the replaces as you know get costly
    Hugs cecilia

  7. We have traps set in the basement and in the garage. Those mice can do very expensive damage and we don't need that problem.

  8. Have you considered getting a fox terrier to sort out those mice? My breeder told Gail that all her dogs were excellent at keeping the vermin on the farm under control, but as yet I haven't have the opportunity to show off my hunting ability.
PS from Gail: likely that last sentence should read 'lack of hunting ability' if Nobby's predecessor is anything to go by. Although I will admit that Nobby is generally quite a bit quicker and more alert than Bertie ever was

  9. OMD...Mouses in your house AND car? We bet you both have a good plan to help your Lady and Man get rid of them!!

  10. We get mousies this time of year too. Mostly they come into the garage looking for birdie seeds that we have in large bags in the garage. But they have never invaded the cars. At least not that I know of.

Thanks for reading and leaving us a comment. We love your comments!
