On Tuesday, August 22, the Man and I flew from Ottawa to Portland.
Our general thoughts about Portland as a city:
-Clean
-Easy to drive around
-Half the city is pregnant (I have never noticed so many pregnant women in my life)
-The other half of Portland is not wearing a shirt
-The food is amazing
-People are very friendly (this extended to the coast as well)
We stayed our first night in a B and B - Mayor's Mansion on Laurelwood Park. Because home built in 1912 that the owner has turned into a B and B.

We visited the food trucks downtown. This is a square city block of just food trucks. We picked Mexican as it was gluten free for me.
We also tried a number of places on Mississippi Avenue. A couple of highlights other than food included:
A light shop (which wasn't open either time we went to the street)
and a used book store that sold you a blind date. Basically it was a fluffy piece of fiction, wrapped in brown paper with the first line of the book written on it. They sold for $3. Since I read 4 books on this trip, it was nice to find to pick up cheap easy reads.
The one place I wish we had been able to explore more was Washington Park. It was an amazing park with gardens, museums, the zoo. I will be sharing my pictures of the Test Rose Garden in Flower Fridays.
Have never been to Portland but have heard it's a beautiful city.......sounds like you enjoyed your visit!

the mansion looks beautiful... and I often wish such houses could talk ;o) I like the idea with the blind date book... but because I'm always an eight ball I would probably pick the most boring book of slice earth... probably another part of 50 shades of gray or something like that hahahahaha
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice trip! I need a vacation so badly!
ReplyDeleteWe hear that Oregon is very dog friendly and we would love to visit! The Mayor's Mansion is just beautiful!

ReplyDeleteWhat a nice adventure! Can't wait to see the rest!
ReplyDeletePawsome travelogue. Portland is a very vibrant and fun city. I could do without the millennial attitude, but it's a great place to visit.
ReplyDeleteThat mansion is very pretty and must be a good place for us to sniff around!
ReplyDeleteOh, happy belated Gotcha Day, Hailey!!

My brother was buried in a cemetery there, so I always make sure when I'm visiting Dad we make a trip down there and pay our respects. Growing up so close, we spent a LOT of time in Portland. I got my pilots license there, and used to flight instruct at Portland International Airport which had a flight school (you'd actually take the students to a small, slow airport nearby for their solo flights), but we had a lot of training going on.
ReplyDeleteSo inquiring minds want to know, was there a connection between the pregnant women and the shirtless men(we presume it was men)? BOL
ReplyDeleteNice pics.

That is one place I would absolutely LOVE to go to visit! That's so funny that 1/2 of Portland is pregnant! :) So glad you all had a great trip!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to hear more! I do know that Portland has to be the trendiest city in the US - so it's a great one to visit!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry that I've been absent - we took a 3 week trip into the wilderness with no internet. We're back now, and I'm excited to catch up!
That looks like a great trip! Once we stayed overnight in Portland on our way from San Diego up to Canada. This was pre-reviews-of-everything online so we accidentally picked a really scary neighborhood to stay in. We didn't sleep so well that night... We definitely need to go back and give the city a *real* visit!
