Last Thursday was a crazy wildlife day!
During our morning walk we saw: a raccoon (the dogs went insane and somehow I kept in control of them), a live frog crossing the road (it startled the dogs while they sniffed it and it jumped), the buck (we don't see him often so that is special), a dead frog (sadly we have been seeing more of those this year, but it means they have come back after the construction that took them away), a dead garter snake, a doe and 2 fawns.
On my drive to work that morning, I had 2 different encounters with wild turkeys, a cat ran in front of my car and a huge hawk came out of a ditch and nearly hit my car.
Generally we may see some deer (at least a few times per week), the turkeys (they have adjusted their territory this year and we are seeing less), frogs (alive and dead), birds (lots and lots of different ones - Hailey only cares about the ravens and sometimes the woodpeckers, the rest she ignores), chipmunks and squirrels on the walk.
Here are some of the other things we have seen recently - that I was able to photograph with my phone, while holding both dogs!
Horse prints - and horse poop - we have to walk around that or the pups think it is snack time |
If we don't see the deer we often see their tracks |
Looking down our road - a deer |
We saw this dead snake - I believe it is an Eastern Milk Snake - yesterday |
Frogs in the ditch - the dogs always want to chase them in |
And of course groundhogs. This one is in our yard - We have at lest 3 adults and several babies in the yard this year |
PS Lady tried uploading the videos of the house to YouTube, but that was a fail. It was going to take 2 hours to upload a 2 minute video cause our internet sucks. She thinks she has a solution - panoramic pictures. She is going to try those this week during the day (the light in the house is best during the day. Hopefully we will have that by the end of the week.
SNAKE!!!! RUN!!!!

ReplyDeleteWhat a panoply of nature's critters you have to play (or not) with! REgarding the video - I use (and trust) Freemake Converter so that you can resize the video for uploading - will then take only about 10 minutes; still relatively slow, but MUCH better than 2+ hours!!! Up to you - but do give it a go. YAM xx
we always love looking for footprints - we see raccoon prints over by the breakwater - guess they love the oysters on the rocks down there
ReplyDeleteOH MY dogs do you live in a Zoo?
ReplyDeleteAmazing sightings Hugs madi your bfff and mom
Hawks are big birds to start with, so a huge one must have been enormous.
ReplyDeleteYou have to post warnings about the snakes. Mom freaks out so easily.
ReplyDeleteWow y'all are having really great walkies. I really like the groundhog cause we don't have them.
ReplyDeleteAroo to you,
Sully
Wildlife seems to even be moving into the suburbs also and adapting to humans. Don't know if that is a good or bad thing. I saw your comment on Yam Aunty that you were in Cincinnati on the way to the BAR. That had to be a couple hundred miles out of your way.
ReplyDeleteWish you would have left me a comment or e-mailed. I would have been glad to meet up with you and perhaps taken you to one of Nati Citys traditional eating places like Montgomery Ribs or Skyline or Graeter's Ice Cream. Yam Aunty could not eat at any of those places.
Thanks for being a friend

Did the cat make it?
ReplyDeleteBabyBelle is obsessed with any and all critters! Lol
ReplyDeleteHorses are my favorite wildlife!
ReplyDeleteI'm always afraid to encounter wildlife while walking all three dogs. Somehow I think an injury to me will be the result!
Monty, Harlow and Ramble

What an abundance of wildlife. We mostly see birds. We have MANY types of birds.
ReplyDeleteWe currently have a bunny rabbit playing in the backyard, as well as a squirrel running to and fro, and 3 huge crows out front who I think stuck their tongues out at us as we pulled the car up the driveway.
ReplyDeleteWOw, yous must live in WIld Kingdom! We are excited to see the video or whatever it is.
ReplyDeleteYour Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
Luckily we don't see much wildlife in the neighborhood, but we love seeing your wildlife!
ReplyDeleteWe have lots of wildlife around our house too. It's fun to stalk them but our mom doesn't like it if we catch them.
ReplyDeleteOh wow. We just see deer and skunks here. There were a lot of dogs and cats passing by when we lived in the city, but not too many of those out here for my dog to watch!
ReplyDeleteSo much wildlife!
ReplyDeleteWe only have bunnies, skunks, squirrels and an occasional coyote by us. I have never seen a ground hog in real life.
ReplyDeletewe had a cute little snake the other day and mom got pictures. we get pheasants in the fall and winter.
ReplyDeleteWe saw a family of 4 deer on our walk on Sunday. Mom and dad wouldn't let us chase them. Spoilsports!
