Breaking a Bad Habit

Hailey was not a poop eater until our beloved Gemi taught her to be. Gemi was the worst poop eater, she would stand under other dogs to catch the fresh poop. It was horrible.

When we lived in the city, we let Lee out in the backyard by herself and she would poop and eat it. Now that we are in the country without a safe place for her to be alone, we are with her and we can try and prevent it. It is not always easy because sometimes she will move while she is going so she can start to eat her own poop. Also, frozen poop is her favourite treat and she can remember where it is (even after it has snowed) and will try and dig it up.  Fortunately, she only likes her own poop and the animal poop we find on the trails around our house. She does not like Phod poop.

We will keep trying to block her (but like I said she is sneaky). Let's hope we can break this habit!

Editors note: While my resolution to be more organized and stay on top of things has extended to work and not my blog! I will hopefully have time to catch up on writing mine and reading yours tomorrow . . . I should finish a huge work project today that will in theory give me free time!

  1. I like the tasty tidbit rabbit poops in my yard! They are like M &M's! BOL!

  2. Awwww no, not the poop eater BOL, no kizzes for you then :) xx00xx

  3. I hope you can block the poop eating habbit. My Goro sometimes tries to eat cat litter (not the one in litter box but the ones he dragged out of it) so I make sure to clean the floor as soon as I see litter out of the box.

  4. Can you not spray the poop with something? Not an easy problem to tackle. Maybe there is answer somewhere on google. Best of luck. Have a terrific Tuesday.
    Best wishes Molly

    1. Yeah, maybe try putting bitter spray on the poo?

  5. That is a tough problem. I have never been interested in poop. I steer clear of it when I encounter it.

  6. When Halladay was a puppy he wanted to eat poo (curiosity, I guess). Thankfully he grew out of that very quickly. However if he sees a poopsicle he will definitely pay more attention to it than I'd like.

  7. Give some pineapple with every meal. Fresh is best, but canned works too. My male Doxie is a horrid poo eater if not given pineapple.

  8. yuk! we don't eat anybodies poop, even our own, however we do go smeel every one!

  9. Ew. My puppies like the duck and chicken poo. And all dogs love cat tootsie rolls. Have you considered changing diet?

  10. This is why we don't let dogs kiss us clean kitties! Happy New Year from Au, Target and Guido.

  11. Thank you all for your replies. It is funny she had stopped doing this over the summer and is just back now. We have tried changing her food before and it never helped. We will add pineapple to the grocery list and try that. We can at least get her to stop eating hers if we can't control the other dogs on the street and the wild animals!

  12. I've heard that eating pineapple can help stop it too. Not sure why, guess it makes the poo taste funny. Good luck!
