The Most Beautiful Time of Year?

If you ask Lady what season she likes most, she doesn't know if she could answer you. She thinks she is lucky to live somewhere with 4 distinct seasons. Each season has things she loves and things she hates. Winter has sparkling beauty, holiday cheer and it has too cold weather and terrible driving conditions. Spring has longer days, the return of green and it has too many bugs that bite. Summer brings long lazy days, time at the lake and too much heat. Fall brings cozy sweaters, bright colours,  the smell of decay, and it brings shortening days and so much to do.

However, when she reflects on what season is the prettiest, she thinks fall. Her hope is to take us hiking in Callie's forest, at least once a week to enjoy the colours while they last. Last Saturday was our first walk. Come along with us!

The blue line is the tube that will collect sap in the spring which will be turned into maple syrup.

Too much to see and smell to sit and pose for a picture!

The only wildlife we saw was this red squirrel, who yelled at us and we barked at! He didn't care, he
didn't move.

We hope you enjoyed this stroll through early fall.

Trouble on A Tuesday - Do It Right - by Phod

 Dear pals,

Sometimes it is very hard to be a Phod. Sometimes my people don't do what I want them to. I very much like a routine and the older I get, the more change bothers me. Here are some examples.

Sometimes Lady doesn't pet me when she should and I have to be all sad about it.

Sometimes my people do weird things like sit on the settee beside each other. Lady is suppose to sit there and Man is suppose to sit in the brown chair.

Sometimes Lady does weird things like work out and something she called a wall chair. When she did that, I needed a lot of love.

When things are not how I like them I pace and complain and demand love. I am lucky my people generally fall back in line after they break the rules.

Are your peeps good at following your desired routine?

Your pal, just do it right like I like, Phod

Mischief Monday - Helping See Beautiful - by Hailey

 Dear pals,

Lady and I are at a bit of an impasse about if I caused mischief or was helpful.

You see the other day at lunch, I was pupping around the yard, like I do. I was in the backyard because I had to check out where the chipmunks and birds and squirrels and cats have been.

Me by the chipmunk hole

Then I decided to go for a walk in the bush. While Lady was joining me, she saw this beautiful tree.  So is it mischief or a moment of helping Lady see beautiful?

Lady never found me in the bush, but I came back after a very short period of time.

I say no mischief was done. Lady says some was. What do you think?

National Black Dog Day - by Hailey

I was very excited to be chosen to be one of the sponsors for this event, as it is something that is very important to me.

My face when I hear people don't like black animals

Black dogs suffer from black dog syndrome. Black animals are less likely to get adopted than lighter ones. No one is sure exactly why. Black dogs can be harder to photograph, there may be beliefs that black dogs aren't as nice (thank you media for this), they may be associated with myths of being bad omens or guards of the underworld, and black is generally associated with evil.

Whatever the reasons, too many black animals don't get to find loving homes. I am very lucky that I have a Lady, who if anything, is biased toward black pets, because she knows about this syndrome. 3/6 animals in her adult life have been black.  Lady says when people are selecting a new family member, they should not make a choice based on colour. They should look at the factors of temperament, age,  size, exercise requirement, grooming, and possible health needs.

If you are looking for a new dog to love, learn about the available black dogs. The dog may not be the best fit for you at this time, and that is ok, but he/she should be given the same consideration as lighter ones.

Black dogs rule!

Your favourite black dog, Hailey

Thankful Thursday - Helping Others

Lady and Man play recreational pickleball. They have been playing with one group for about 7 months and have gotten to know some people. Last week, one of the women, came up to Lady and said 'you have inspired us to get a dog. We go get her tomorrow.' When asked how she had inspired them, the woman said because Lady is always talking about us, it made them want a dog. So Molly, an 8 month old mini poodle something mix (Lady got too distracted looking at pictures of her cute face to remember the mix), will have been in a new home for about a week when you read this. This retired couple (the woman was a nurse) is going to love her and take such good care of her. Lady says her work is now done. She helped one deserving dog find a loving home.

Callie, at lunch. She loves sticks.

Lady and Man continue to take Callie out over lunch two times a week. We don't mind her coming to play.  Last week, Lady and Man also sat with the two youngest when they made it home before a parent. They are very happy to do this. While playing a game of picture charades, and playing ball with Callie, little Milo kept attacking Lady. She loved it!

Speaking of helping others, please join us Saturday!
