Mischief Monday - Nighttime Troubles - by Phod

 Dear pals,

The most horrible thing has been happening in the night. My people bought the very loud machine for the bedroom. Lady said it is to keep us cool. Lady also says Angel Gemi loves this. They had one in their old house and as soon as it was turned on, she would run, jump on the bed and lay right in front of it, and wouldn't move.

Gemi may have liked it, but I am very scared of the "loud fan" when it is running. On Thursday night, I was pacing and pacing. Then I saw flashing lights and was sure it was lightning. Lady said it was just the new Christmas lights but since I was keeping them up at 1:45 am she went out and turned them off.

It has been fairly hot for us (in the 30sC and high 80s, low 90sF) so the people are doing the following - start the scary machine about an hour before they think Lady will go to bed. I don't get to go to bed with her as I am too scared. The bad machine runs until Man comes to bed and then he turns it off and opens the windows. It has been cooling down enough so this is working. They also only run it in nights they really need it. Lady says they got it to help them sleep and me pacing around doesn't help improve sleep.

As for the lightning solar lights, Lady went out after dark last night and figured out how to change the setting to not flash. This made them less scary.

Lady says I am getting soft in my old age. I think she is just introducing horrible things.

Your very brave pal, Phod

  1. Hari OM
You ARE very brave, Zaphod and let nobuddy say otherwise! I can't help but think that the noise of the machine completely counteracts the sleeping benefits even for the hyoomons. I'd've gone ceiling fan myself... as for Christmas lights in August... Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  2. I like the lights and would not want them flashing for me either. steady burn is better, poor baby sorry life is not so happy and that there are smelly things in our yard

  3. Well, Phod, I agree with you that The Ice Machine's noise is bad, but its cool air is good. My cousins in Williamsburg (ON) don't have a Machine, and summer nights at their house can get Very Hot.

  4. We're sorry to hear that cooling machine makes too much noise for you, Phod. At least it gets cool over night so it can be turned off.

  5. We have a loud window machine for our bedroom and mom always has the ceiling fan going. If I don't like the noise, I sleep in another room but I always have the option of returning to the bedroom. Maybe this could work for you too, Phod. I would not like the flashing lights either.

  6. A loud machine for the bedroom AND flashing lights? The horror! Phod you are indeed very brave and we hope your hot conditions do not last for too long and you get some night time peace and quiet.
    Toodle pip!

  7. Wow Phod...we think you are being VERY brave! Hang in there big guy!!
    Rosy and the Gang

  8. Oh Phod! You are brave to have to deal with all of that. ;)

  9. Good boy Phod, you aren't the one with the new is all their fault.
Our Gemma likes a dehumidifier on and lays in the small hall when it thunders so it masks the thunder some.

  10. OMGoodness, P. Why are your peeps trying to scare you? New things are always a challenge, but when they flash and make noise - even worse. Sounds like they have a good plan. Hang in there, fren. You are safe.

    Love and licks,

  11. Hi friends, Ojo here! I wish we had a scary thing like that. I would take a scary thing if I could get some cool air. It has been Too Hot here too! Stay cool, friends!

  12. Awww, you are so brave to deal with scary machines and flashing light. Hope they're less troublesome for you soon.
