Happy Valentine's Day

Let's all give each other a little extra love, caring and compassion today, as it is clear this is currently missing in the world. And in true Blogville style, a little K-oss.  Be sure to visit Murphy and Stanley's K-oss Party and the kids room over at Arty's.  You will find us around!

Hailey going with her dear friend Casey.  The couple are sporting their rainbow best as they remember their loves called too early to the rainbow bridge.

Phod and Mazie stop by the blue screen of hearts, on their way into the party.

Wishing everyone a day filled with love!

Mischief Monday - Angry

We put a blanket in front of the fire for the dogs to lie on.

Lee enjoying the fire

If we forget to pick it up, and Hailey decides she is mad about something (such as on Friday instead of being alone from say 7:30-5, she was alone from 12:30-5:30), she pees on it.

When I got home Friday and went downstairs, she went right over to show me what she had done. What a girl!

Asian Adventure - Part 5

Today, we enjoy Bangkok Thailand.  Thailand is a place I would like to go back to and explore more, we definitely didn't have enough time there.

As most of you probably are aware, Thailand's king died in October. The country is in official mourning for one year. While visiting some locations in the country (the Grand Palace where the king will be lying in state for a year for example, and many temples) there is a dress code. Covered ankles and shoulders, and wearing black or white (or a dark colour). I actually heard someone say the cruise ship should do something because it wasn't fair they had to wear black or white. I am pretty sure the ship doesn't control a country in mourning and I think people need to really think about what they are complaining about!

Throughout the city you see many posters remembering the King.

Even businesses display black and white. Unfortunately, we were on a bus tour and couldn't check out this tea room.

Besides driving around Bangkok, we visited 2 temples. The first is the home to the Gold Buddha. It is the largest gold Buddha statue in the world.

Another remembrance to the King

The golden Buddha - note the strings

The string leave the Buddha's hand and go all over the temple grounds.

We visited Bangkok on New Year's Eve, and part of the new year ritual is for people to hold on to the string and twirl it around their heads during a ceremony. This is to bring good fortune for the new year.

A sample of the strings at a different temple

It wasn't during the ceremony but we did twirl the string around our heads.

We visited a second temple whose name escapes me (as beautiful as they are, they are similar and can blend together!)

We were startled when this flock of birds took off

There are many Chinese statues and they were used to increase weight in trading ships bringing spices and other light goods

These Buddhas are over 600 years old. Over 100 had been brought to this temple.

Sample of the wall around Buddha. You could spend hours looking at the story it tells.

A monk texting - cracked me up!

This was a door to the temple

Here are a few pictures of the city - taken mostly from a bus window.

Thailand was the most difficult place for me to eat off of the ship. I cannot eat gluten or soy. They use soybeans in everything, including as salt in the water they cook vegetables with. Fortunately, I was only off the ship for one meal each of the two days we were in Thailand, so I could make do.

The Man's meal

Next week we will visit our second spot in Thailand.

If you have questions, please ask, we will answer them next week too!

This and That Thursday - by Lee

Many of you asked why I was banished from the kitchen. The Man, who does 100% of the dinner prep in our house, says I get in the way. He is always telling me to get out. I rarely listen. I am a girl who loves her food. He keeps trying and I will keep not listening to him.

Speaking of food - Lady and Man had a min-super bowl party. Lady doesn't mind football (sorry American friends, Canadian football is far more exciting but yours is watchable), but can never stay up for the whole game. (This year she says she clearly missed the best half of the game because that first half was pretty boring). Anyway, it is one of the days of the year, Lady doesn't  eat clean and they eat in front of the TV.

This is the feast made for two: Potato skins, onion rings, deep fried zucchini, wings. (In case Lady's trainer sees this, she also had a salad, so it was totally healthy).

Phod doesn't get excited about food, he was just happy to get snuggles.

I showed Lady how much I wanted to taste some of that delicious food. I looked super cute.

I looked longingly at it (in case you are wondering what is on the plate, after Lady was done eating, she brushed Phod and put his hair on her plate to take to the garbage).

Being cute and looking longingly didn't score me anything. In the end I got bored and went to sleep on my Lady. At least she gave me lots of pets and love and we got to snuggle, although I am sure wings would have been better!
