Adventures From BAR - Part One - That Time We Almost Died

Welcome to our Blogville Awesome Retreat (BAR) series, where we will share the adventures we had.

In part one, we will talk about our drive to BAR, aka, the time we almost died.

Full load ready to go!

Pups ready to go

It started off well enough. We took our car, no issues at the boarder (they didn't even ask to see the dogs rabies certificates), arrived at the RV. Loaded into the RV and then the chaos started.

The RV was loud and shaky and Hailey was sure we were going to die. She sat in the back and cried and tried to get on the table. (In the chaos, no pictures were taken).

I moved to the back to sit with her until she calmed down. During this time, Phod thought he should try and get under the console in the passenger seat.

About 30 minutes into the drive, a truck and the gale force winds took us off the road, and the Man amazingly kept us on the shoulder. There was a moment we were all sure we were going to die and we should just turn around.

 The Man kept going.

For some time the dogs sat like this:

Phod learned to tolerate the RV by sitting between us like this

and this

 and like this.

Hailey took this position from her seatbelt (because she just wants to sit on a lap if she is not harnessed in:

or this position.

For the rest of the trip, we called the RV the death trap!

Tomorrow will be about our friends in the furs!

B*A*R* or Bust

One day until we hit the road for B*A*R*!  It is a mix of excitement to meet everyone in the furs and trepidation over crossing the boarder (yes we have our vaccine certificates packed), driving the RV, having the dogs spend 15 hours over 2 days in the car (fortunately they have done 9 in one day a number of times), and Hailey at the campsites (will she obsessively bark and get us kicked out?)

Needless to say, it is going to be an adventure!

We are getting packed (much of what is left is things we can't pack until last minute, like the frying pan we use all the time), have made a grocery list (we can't bring most of the food we want over the boarder), and have our directions.

For those of you we are meeting, we look forward to it.
For those of you who are joining us in spirit, we will be thinking fondly of you.

If you need a laugh this week, picture us all in the RV - the car sick dog, the anxious dog, the crazy Lady, and the ever so patient Man!

Mischief Monday - Disorganized

I have been a bit disorganized around the blogs since the return from Chicago. I have been reading as many as I can, but commenting less. This turn around between trips (Chicago and BAR) is less than ideal. Made a bit crazier by the fact that if I don't work, I don't get paid, which is fine, except I want to get some work done before I travel! Once we return from BAR, we will get back into our regular routine!

Because I haven't picked a camera up and captured my pups lately, here is a series of pictures from the park a few weeks ago I have been meaning to share. One of the greatest joys I have in my life is watching Hailey run. I wish we could do it more often, but she is a little untrustworthy.

Here she goes:

When we first let her off leash, I always feel nervous!

You can see the joy on her face as she runs

and runs!

When you know she is coming towards you, that is the best feeling in the world!

Thanks for coming back Hailey!

Back For A Moment

I arrived home last evening to 2 very happy pups. It is always such a treat to have such a warm welcome. Hailey sat on my lap and wanted to give me a thousand kisses! She had a couple rough nights (up scared in the middle). We will have to monitor this.

I had a great time in Chicago. We were right downtown at Michigan and Wacker. It is my 3rd time in Chicago. It is really a beautiful city. My colleague and I  finally did architectural boat tour one night, lovely. If I get my act together, will share some pictures.

We will be back for about a week and then we will be offline as we go to BAR! I will do my best to catch up with everyone, but with work and packing and my niece's 2nd birthday I will likely remain hopelessly behind!
