Blogville Pawlice Academy - Lessons from Hailey

Good morning class, welcome to our discussion on paperwork and jailer training. I hope you will find this useful.

As office manager of the Blogville Police Department, I wanted to take some time to go over the paperwork required as an active member of the police force.

While paper can be very tasty (I have eaten enough paper myself over the years) and shredding it can be fun, it is important to keep it intact to make sure our criminals have appropriate sheets.  I will be responsible for shredding any sheets that need to be. 

To help up keep consistent, I have created this sheet that is to be filled in for our activity reports. Officers are expected to complete this after every shift and submit it to me.

As jailer it is my responsibility to make sure everyone is locked up nice and tight. When a criminal is brought in, the arresting officer, will sign our log. This will help us make sure that we know who we have.

Cells need to be appropriate so there is no jail breaks.
As an expert jail breaker, I have personally inspected
all our cells. 

Once the criminal has been signed in, the arresting officer and I will give him/her a close inspection to make sure that he/she don’t have any weapons or other dangerous substances. We will make sure they are paw or finger printed and butt sniffed. I will then select the cell that is the most appropriate for perpetrator. Each cell will have a bed, access to an appropriate bathroom and fresh water 24-7.

Assisting with Guard Duty

While I am an excellent guard (I have great vision and smelling and am always on alert), I will need some assistance because I occasionally need to nap.

A day in the jail will look like the following:

7 am –breakfast – chicken and rice

9-11 – Exercise time – small groups or individual secure time will be provided as needed

11-2 – nap time

2-4 - mandatory counselling or treatments as needed

4-6 – nap time and visiting hours

7pm -dinner – chicken and rice

8-10 – library or TV time. Email access for good behaviour

10 pm – lights out

Note: Baths will only be given if requested by those in our care because I will not allow water torture to occur on my watch.

Let me now demonstrating the lock up procedure.

First you go to the cell and put the key in the lock. 

Turn the lock and open the door. Then the perp goes in. Close the door, turn the key, remove the key, give the door a shake to make sure it is locked properly. 

Easy - thank you for your demonstration, but it is not nap time!

Updated Post: Training Thursday on a Tuesday

We are opting this early because on Thursday we are hosting a Blogville Pawlice Academy class.

As I have mentioned, the deep freeze has raged on for most of January. I wish I had tracked it but most of the month was below -20 C, some days as low as -40C. Because outside time has to be limited when it is that cold, we have been working on tricks inside.

Update: I had videos for this but I tried to install them 2 times and there is an error. I don't have time to figure it out, so I will explain what they do.

Hailey loves her training time. Hailey is very enthusiastic and does her tricks quickly. The problem with her can be getting her to slow down enough to listen as she is too excited.

Phod on the other hand, is not as keen, particularly with his back up. His new trick for this is to either bark at us or bite the air. We will keep working on it. I am hopeful this is just a phase!

Happy Groundhog Day!

We hope the groundhogs say only 6 more weeks of winter for the following reasons:

1. It is an unusually cold winter, and we are tired of being stuck inside.
2. In the winter, we have less wildlife around and it makes us sad.
3. Hailey would really like the groundhogs to come out so she can catch another one.

Black and White Sunday - Cousins

This picture was taken when cousin Emma was still a baby and we still lived in the city. I am sharing it today because we are preparing for the arrival of Emma. Next weekend Emma will be coming to stay with us for just over 2 months as Uncle Chris goes off for training.

Feline Friday - Old Cat with New Tricks

I was working at home on Wednesday. I had left my office door (which I generally keep closed) open over my lunch break.  When I returned to my desk, I found this

a Nin on my windowsill. He had hoped up from the chair, to the desk, to the windowsill. He had pushed much of what was on it on the floor. He stayed for nearly an hour. I think he loved it because it was super warm as the heater is below the window and the warm air rose up between the desk and wall. After an hour, he needed a nap, and off he went to the couch. He can still be amazingly spree for an old Man!

(Looking out the window, you see the underside of the deck. Our house is a bungalow with a walk out basement. My office is in the basement at the back of the house. Since our big deck runs across the back, my big office window looks out under it.)

This and That Thursday

First, sorry we haven't been around much this week. It has been an incredibly busy week (in a good way).

Snuggling with me

People asked about the rabbit ear the dogs got as a treat. They were  dehydrated ears, fur and all. The name of the company escapes me, but I know it was a Canadian one. I found them at Global Pets, and they sold the treats individually. At first I was sort of grossed out by them, but I quickly got over it. The Man thinks they are totally gross!

The weather has still be very cold limiting our walk time (I know we all have cabin fever, in fact I think the whole city has cabin fever, people have just been grumpy and rude, especially when driving). We are working on several new tricks and hope to have one to show next week.

Hailey is working on: spin (in both directions), under (meaning go under my legs), and cop cop (which is very new and I love seeing her try and figure it out - she knows her paws need to go near my feet but hasn't figured out that they need to go on them).

Zaphod was working on cop cop, but . . . . .  the other day I went to use a physical prompt to help him and he got scared and sort of freaked out and fell on his face, and then Hailey stepped on his face as she tried to get to the cookie. It was a super funny disaster I wish I had on tape. After the fall, he left the training area and went to sulk. We are going to take a break from that one. He is working on under, spin, crawl and continuing to work on back up.
