Nature Friday - Part of the Forest Soundtrack

We are lucky to have at least 3 types of woodpeckers in our yard. They make up the soundtrack of our lives. We are more likely to hear them then see them. The other day, I happened to have my phone when was was visible. I believe (as I am new to bird watching) this is a downy woodpecker.

Thanks to Rosyfor hosting this hop!

  1. We love to hear the woodpeckers pecking away at the trees on our morning walks. They are such beautiful birds!

  2. That's definitely a downy woodpecker. Be sure to put out some suet for them to eat in winter.

  3. We have lots of woodpeckers in our yard too. The downy has such good camouflage that we almost didn't see it at first.

  4. great capture and you should hear what they sound like pecking on our neighbors metal gutter. go figure why they do that, it doesn't make a hole just sounds like a jack hammer. we have 3 types here, except have not seen them since the pandemic started.

  6. And if you do put out suet, be sure to take it down before the bears wake up from hibernation. I made that mistake in New Hampshire, too late searching "bears, bird feeders, New Hampshire"!

  8. |Great shot! We have woodpeckers too. They loved to pund on the old telephone pole, but the local electric company replaced it with a new one and the wood peckers do not like it at all. I am thankful as the tree and the pole they pund on at 5 am is on the other side of the house...it is the Morning Doves that drive me nuts now!
