About two months ago Emma had a skunk encounter in her backyard. Lady told Uncle Chris he had to get rid of the smell before she came to stay with us. Being Uncle Chris (who says you get use to it, Lady says she does not want to get use to it) he did not. The first order of business before he left was to give her 1 of 2 peroxide, baking soda, soap baths.
Emma is a trooper and did a much better job then the 2 resident pups would have. However, the two baths have not eliminated the smell. We guess it has been on her too long. We hope over time it will go away.
Uncle Chris said "just don't get her wet and she won't smell as much." It is suppose to rain all week and it is suppose to be a wetter and cooler than usual summer sigh!
oooh what a cute visitor... and even one with the pawfume of pepe le pew ;O))) pawsome
ReplyDeleteEmma's gorgeous and I'm sure she's a welcome house guest even with her pungent smell. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteAww, that's too bad, she probably doesn't enjoy the smell either!
ReplyDeletePoor Emma. I bet she doesn't like smelling like a stinky either!
ReplyDeleteEmma is a real trooper...kinda funny that Uncle Chris' nose was immune to the stink skunk scent. Hugs Madi your bfff and mom
ReplyDeleteI have heard about these skunk creatures from Human Granny, who spent four years in Canada as a child evacuee during WW2. She says they are much smellier than anything we have this side of the Pond. That's got to be good, right?
ReplyDeleteToodle pip!
Bertie.
Poor Stinky Emma! I've read that tomato juice kills the smell but I'm sure she would NOT like tomato juice dumped on her furs after having to endure all those baths!!!!

Oh too bad Enma had skunk encounter! I hope the smell will eventually go away!
ReplyDeleteI agree, there's no getting used to that smell. But I am so glad that Cousin Emma is there, and I hope that the smell does go away sooner, rather than later. ❤
ReplyDeleteMaybe you'll get used to it....or perhaps get a head cold. Hope the skunks in your area stay out of Emma range.
ReplyDeleteWhen we got skunked we used Nature's Miracle. It has one especially for skunks and is easy to apply. Also it works well and can be used on carpet/furniture as needed.

Visitors are nice, skunks are not. The city just posted a confirmation of a rabid skunk a couple blocks over so we plan to be especially careful on our walks.
ReplyDeleteOh, poor little stinky Emma. Maybe with a few more regular baths and some doggie conditioner, she will smell pretty again. I hope so. She's a cutie.
ReplyDeleteLove and licks,
Cupcake
Welcome back, Emma. Skunks are the one thing Mom hopes we never meet up with. We have heard good things about that formula for the stink. Hope it fades away soon.

Yuppers, I thinks the Nature's Miracle for Skunks works wonders! I've never been sprayed, though we have LOTS of skunks around here...you can smell them..yucks!
ReplyDeleteKisses,
Ruby ♥
pees: tell Chris to stay safe, and we will be sendin' AireZens with him!
I'm with Ruby - we've had GREAT success with Nature's Miracle for skunks. We keep a bottle on hand all the time, just in case.
ReplyDeleteRegardless of the "scent", I'm sure that you'll all love having Emma with you for a while. Yipee!
Oh poor Emma and poor you. Here's hoping some of these suggestions you have help. Otherwise, it could be a long 2 months.
ReplyDeleteEau du Skunk!!! THAT has happened many times since we bought the house in Midway...we discovered the hard way, the longer you leave it before using the peroxide/baking soda/soap/water mixture, the harder it is to get off/rid of the smell from the poor dear (I know you did NOT want to hear that). My personal favorite remedy is 1 cup of vanilla extract mixed in a gallon of water...you let the dog soak with the solution on their fur for about 10-15 minutes and then rinse and shampoo. It was the only thing that got the smell off our old dog Bob. Her fur was so long and her undercoat was dense, I thought I was going to have to shave her to get rid of the smell until a local dog groomer told me to try that one.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck!
