One night when she was visiting, Tendra's barking was not getting her what she wanted, so she went over to Lee's bowl, grabbed it and threw it! It made all the people laugh, but Tenny didn't get her dinner any sooner!

Photo Bomb!
On Sunday, the sun was streaming through the dining room windows. The sun and floor were warm enough to create sun puddles for Hailey to enjoy. She looked so beautiful. I grabbed the camera to snap some pictures of her. Then the following happened.
It became clear to me that I have paired the camera with cookies too often to capture any spontaneous pictures inside. All this posing worked, they got the cookies!
I got a picture of my girl
Then as I was snapping away, I got this. A jealous Zaphod came right over to stand in the way.
I look over and Emma was posing for pictures
Hailey got up and waited for her cookies
Phod struck his cutest pose - that face says "I need cookies"

Does anyone else have this problem?

Really - That is the Face I Get?
Since I have this blog, the camera is in my dogs' faces more than it would be if I didn't. Last time I checked my iPhoto I had something like 13 000 pictures, and you know at least half of those are my dogs. You would think after having thousands of pictures taken Hailey would be a good model, but no, she is not.
Here is an example from the recent photo shoot I did for Hailey's 5th birthday:
It took 14 shots to get one that was acceptable for her official birthday picture. You can view it HERE.
Phod on the other hand, was completely jealous about the attention Hailey was getting (and she wasn't getting treats until the pictures were done) and in 1 shot I got a new favourite:

The surprised look, like she has never seen the camera before

From our time at the beach
Before the post for today, yesterday I came across this article, that as a dog mom, I found very, very interesting. Thought I would share the link with all of you. Lady's mom recently sent this picture from last month when Phod and Lady went for a visit.
Lady and her dad had gone to visit Lady's grandmother and Lady's mom was in charge. She decided to have a nap and said something out loud to the pups like "nap time". Well, this happened:
Three dogs, Zaphod, Barley (chocolate lab) and Tendra raced to the room and all got up on the bed. There was no room left for Lady's mom. She had a great laugh but didn't get her nap.

Make Up Your Own Holiday
Ranger always posts the wacky holidays for every month on his blog. Today is Make Up Your Own Holiday.
If Hailey could make up a holiday I think it would be, National Lick Your Own Butt A lot day.
As mentioned before Hailey goes through periods of butt licking for no medical reason. She just does it because she likes it!
Happy National Lick Your Own Butt A lot Day!

A conversation
While driving home from dinner last night I had a conversation with my hubby that sort of went like that:
Me: "I think we should get Lee a thunder shirt. It might help with her anxiety."
He: "There is no freakin' way we are buying one of those. Waste of money,"
Me: "A lot of people swear by them. She gets so stressed during a storm. It might help."
He: "No way, we are not getting one."
Me: "People swear they help."
He: "Just put her in her jacket and she will be so enraged she won't be scared."
Me: "I really think we should. I have read a lot of good things about them."
He: "People do a lot of stupid things (he gives some examples that while I thought were amusing, but are inappropriate to post. )"
I was laughing so hard that I don't think I did a great job at selling this idea. I would just order one, but I did my business books for the month and traveling is expensive . . . it will have to wait!

The Waiting Room
I took Bagheera to our vet clinic, Ottawa Vet Hospital on Saturday for some follow up blood work. His thoughts on the trip - he hated it. He complained all the way in the car, screamed in a way I have never heard when they took him out of his crate and put him back in his crate, but was good for the blood work.
I have spent a LOT of time in the waiting room of this clinic (which is a 24 hour emergency clinic) and have seen and heard some very interesting things over the years, but this weekend was one of my favourties.
It was unusual that I was the only person at the clinic on a Saturday morning, maybe because of March Break. I am playing with my phone when two men come in carrying a closed rubbermaid container. I hear them say "Hi, we called about our dead cat." This struck me as amusing, not that their cat was dead (by the way, she was over 19, so she had a good life), but the fact that they brought her in that sort of container. It made me wonder, how would I transport one of my cats if they died.
My favourite moment though was when the receptionist asked the guys if the cat had long or short hair and they said "Long hair, but we shaved it all off, so no hair" and they started laughing. I was trying to imagine what this poor dead cat in the rubbermaid container looked like!
I have seen a lot of people saying goodbye to their furry friend at the clinic, but I have never seen anyone not crying about it. I loved that this couple saw the humour in the situation and could celebrate the life of their very old cat. I also liked them because they told me my cat was handsome!
Happy Monday!

When did I become the crazy dog lady?
It occurred to me the other day that I have become "that" person, the crazy dog lady. I always aspired to becoming the crazy cat lady in my old age. My sister and I have a plan when we are old and widowed (in general our family has been blessed with longevity) we would move into a house (not just any house, our parents lovely beach front house) and have like 15 cats. This should be at least 40 years away.
However, at some point I became the crazy dog lady. Not crazy in numbers, but crazy about my dog. I think it started happening when Loki was dying. The extra care he required put more emphasis on the dog ownership part of my life. From there I became more dog centred, and I think the tipping point was Gemi's death. Having lost 2 dogs much too early (age 8 and 6 respectively) I realized my time with any pet was too short, so better get everything I can out of it.
You know you are a crazy dog person when:
1) You write a blog about your dog daily.
2) Most of your free time is spent reading other blogs.
3) You don't want to go on holidays/away because you might have to board your dog. So you only go to dog friendly places or just stay home.
4) You spend more money on the dog's coat and boots then on your own.
5) You take a day off to play with your dog.
6) You schedule your work day to minimize the time the dog might spend alone.
7) You take great pleasure in dressing your dog up, taking pictures and showing everyone.
8) You enter your dog in every dog contest you can find.
9) People at work roll their eyes when you mention your dog.
10) All your YouTube searches are to look for new tricks to teach your dog.
11) Your grocery list has items like "Peanut Butter for the dog" on it.
12) Your weekend plans centre around dog parks, pet stores, play dates and other dog friendly activity.
13) Instead of joining a gym or signing up for a human activity, you put your resources into your dog's class.
14) You look longingly at the pets on petfinder.com and local rescues and pray they find homes soon and imagining a time in your life when they could all live with you.
15) You spend more time analyzing the nutritional content of the dog's food then you ever have on anything you have eaten.
16) You have never had a professional picture of yourself taken, but have several of the dog.
17) Your mantle holds the remains of previous pack members, you dress the urns up and talk to them.
18) The first person you greet when you walk in the door is the dog. After maybe 5 minutes you acknowledge your partner.
19) You have given up worrying about having nice furniture, a clean house etc and only care if the dog is happy and healthy.
20) You have a crazy plan on how to get extra cash if you are ever faced with crazy vet bill.
21) Your pets are mentioned in your will.
22) Your vet is on speed dial, just in case!
23) Your vet rolls his eyes when you share some of your dog stories.
24) For Christmas your human pack members get a calendar of pictures of your dog.
25) You throw a birthday party for your dog.
26) Dog hair is your favourite accessory.
27) Your dog has a twitter account.
28) You only learned to sew to fix favourite toys.
29) You have taken your dog to be blessed (despite the fact you have no religious affiliations).
30) When you talk to your dog, you are sure she is talking back.
Is there anything else that should be on my checklist?

An adventure
Today we are going on an adventure.
4 adults and Lee will be traveling nearly 700 km in my car, a Chevy HHR (similar to the one pictured below).
We will be stopping for lunch in Guelph to spend time with Lee's Great Grandmother (I am not sure my Grandmother would appreciate being called my dog's Great Grandmother, but oh well!).
Then we will be continuing to Grammie and the Big Guy's for the Big Guy's big birthday. Lee will get to play with Max and Tendra (both 3 year old black labs). She is very excited. She is also very excited to be getting Thanksgiving dinner today (she is originally from the States after all!)
Imagine us all in this car . . . . it will be a fun adventure!
Happy Thanksgiving!

Guess how long the carpets stayed clean?
I had my carpets cleaned yesterday. They stayed clean for approximately 2 hours. It was a beautiful day out and I had the door opened so my girl could go in and out and I could work. I didn't realize what she was into outside and she came racing in, and made muddy prints on my drying clean carpet. I tried scrubbing them out last night, but they wouldn't budge. I am hoping now that the carpets are dry I can remove the Lee trail! Sigh!
