Nature Friday - We Have A Winner!

hi friends, hi friends, hi friends,

I am so excited, we have a winner and the snow is gone and there are so many birds and deer and squirrels outside. It may be me Styxy who is winning now that spring is here.

Because I am the mastered of suspense, so much suspense - I am going to share some spring pictures first.

Flowers growing

Deer

More deer

Now, drum roll please - the winner of the When Will The Snow Be Gone Contest - 2026 is . . . .

The last of the snow melted on Monday the 27th. Lady forgot to take a picture in the evening, but she remembered in the morning (she looked but if it isn't a picture of us, she likely won't remember to take it).

Congratulations, congratulations, congratulations Cecilia, and thank you, thank you to everyone who played and let me be a host. Hosting is hard work and fun, fun, fun.

Lady will help me send you an email Cecilia this weekend about a prize.

Enjoy spring everyone!

Styxy, the host

When Will The Snow Be Gone - WINNER - by Tigris

 Dear readers,

Lady has charged me with telling you, we have a winner for the dogs' contest. She said it was very exciting because someone guessed the exact day the snow would leave.

The winner this year is Beau, with a guess of May 2nd.

Congratulations Beau!

Lady will be in touch about about a prize.

Now back to important things like lap sitting (which I don't do often or for long).

When Will The Snow Be Gone - Winners!

We interrupt our regular Mischief Monday post to say, we have a winner for the when will the snow be gone contest!

The last of the snow disappeared on April 13, in spite Mother Nature's attempt to bring more in the gross wet snow we had that day.

Out in the gross wet snow

Snow gone from the last stubborn spot.

This year's winners, with a guess of April 17 are Phenny and Nelly! Congratulations to our friends who have recently left the blogging world, but can be found living their best lives on other social media challenges!

Thank you all for playing! It is always a fun way to welcome spring!

Grateful - by Lady

Recently, I have been less hopeful and more frustrated with humanity. It seems like general kindness and patience with our fellow humans has decreased. However, the small act of one of my readers helped give me a little faith recently.

Our "When Will the Snow Be Gone" contest winner, asked for a donation to be made to charity instead of a prize. I sent her 2 animal charities I support, and let her pick. After the selection, she let me know, she and her husband had decided to also make a donation to the Ottawa Paw Pantry in our honour. My silly little blog contest, that helps us pass the last long days of winter, has filled my heart as it has filled animals bellies. Who could ask for anything more? For this I am truly grateful and send my sincerest thank you to Fay, for reminding me, good is still out there,.

*The Ottawa Paw Pantry is a food bank for families in need, that hopes to allow struggling families to keep their fur members.

We Have A Winner!

We interrupt Mischief Monday to celebrate that we have a winner for our when will the snow be gone contest!

This was the snow situation on April 23 or so.

After checking this pile several times per day, this was the spot on the early afternoon of April 29. (There had still be a little snow in the morning.)

Finally, the snow is gone and grass eating season is here!

Our winner is FAY who picked April 30. Fay, please email Lady at kten19ATmeDOTcom to talk about a prize.

Thank you to everyone who played this year. It was a close race and the snow left before Lady and Man thought it would.

Happy Spring - When Will The Snow Be Gone Contest!

It is that time of year again, time to play  "when will the snow be gone? "

Incase you have forgotten, here are the rules:

-Post your guess, in the comments on this post,  on which day the snow will be gone in our yard (any area covered by grass, not including the bush), before Saturday March 25, at 11:59pm ET

- The first person by time to pick a date, gets that date, so read the others comments.

-The person who comes closest without going past the date, wins.

-Prize to be determined. For those who may want to play but don't want a prize, a donation can be made to charity in your honour instead.

-Updates will be provided at least weekly during the contest.

To help you pick your date, here are some pictures from the front yard yesterday:

I will miss making snow angles when the snow is gone.

Wishing everyone luck, but we know we will be the biggest winners because the snow will be gone and spring will finally be here!

Winner on Mischief Monday

The last of the snow left our yard on April 23rd. Therefore we proclaim Millie and Walter, holders of April 25th as the winner. Please email our Lady at leeandphodATbellDOTnet to arrange for your prize!

Thanks to everyone for playing along. It helps make the snow melting and slow start to spring a little more fun!

Get well soon Man!

Now on to the mischief. Last week, starting on Tuesday, the Man got really sick. His rapid tests said it wasn't Covid. Then on Thursday, Lady started to show symptoms. Her's were very mild but enough to screen her out of work. As a health care worker she could get a lab test, so Friday afternoon she drove to the city for this. She was very pleasantly surprised to get mouth rinse and gargle test and not the up the nose test. She was grateful she took time to read the website and saw if she hadn't eaten or drank for 15 minutes she could be eligible for a less invasive test. Her results were back less than 12 hours (mind you she was sleeping when they came in) and they were negative. By day 3, her mild symptoms were nearly gone. For whatever reasons, she did not get nearly as sick as the Man, who has been really quite ill.

Since he got sick, Lady has stayed away from Man as much as possible. They try and maintain 6 feet (easy in our too big house) and he sleeps in the guest room. We hope in the next day or two he feels better because as we prepare this, he has been rather ill for 6 days! We also hope Lady doesn't get any more of it.

No Mischief On Monday - The Snow Is Gone - Winner!

Although on the weekend Facebook reminded up that 2 years ago and 3 years ago we had storms, we are thrilled to report the last of the snow is gone!

For those who guessed later in the month, don't be sad. Previous years the snow has left between April 26-May 11. This is a very early spring.

This is the spot the last of the snow melted.

The last of the snow melted in the morning of April 11. That means this year's winners are Marv and the gang. Marv, please email us at leeandphodATbellDOTca (Lady will also try to reach out.)

Thanks to everyone who played!

Nature Friday - Contest Update And A Surprise

First, we join Blogville in wishing Marg a very happy birthday!

Here is our flower for Marg! Thanks Rosy for hosting this.

--------------------------------------
Now onto the When Will The Snow Be Gone Contest.

This weeks guessers, LLB Gang, Gemma's Person and Cecilia were so close but as of 5:30 last night . . .

the front yard is now officially snow free,

but the side and backyard still have some snow.

Will the temperatures be warm enough to melt the snow on or before Susan's guess of April 10, or will Marv and friends have the closest guess without going over on April 19?

Only time will tell! We are just excited that this is the earliest spring we have had recently!

We Have A Winner!

We are happy to report that on Sunday May 3rd, the last of our snow melted. Our yard is now snow free for the first time since early November 2019. We had snow for 6 months!

We are not going to mention that there is snow in the forecast over the next week. We are sure that snow won't last long.

As excited as we are to completely snow free, we are as excited to announce the winner.

The Island Cats!

The Island Cats had the closest day, with May 5th. Congratulations!

Please email our Lady at leeandphodATbellDOTnet so we can arrange your prize.

Thanks all for playing! We really enjoy hosting this every year.

Spring is finally here!

Celebrate! We Have a WINNER!

We are jumping for joy, because finally the snow is all gone and that means we have a contest winner!  The snow was all completely gone by Saturday May 11th. The guess that was the closest without going over was Lassiter Chase and Benjamin. They guess May 18th.

Guys, you can email us at leeandphodATbellDOTnet or Lady will reach out to you in a few days to work out getting you the prize.

Thanks to everyone who played. You helped add some excitement to our never ending winter!

WhooHoo!

Congratulations to Princess Leah for picking the correct day for the end of our snow.

We still had a little yesterday morning but when we went out around 4 pm, it was all gone! We think Leah's mom's and Yamini's birthday's was a lucky day! We also have had a lot of rain this month (it was one of the wettest April's on record) and the snow has gone from hip deep on April 1st to none  on April 26th! It is earlier than we thought it would be gone!

The last patch is gone!

Thanks to everyone who entered. It was a really fun way to celebrate the end of winter.

We are taking a couple days off as Lady is far behind in work and has some things to catch up on before the month ends (that is how some of her contracts work) and it is going to be 26C/78F today so we need to be outside as much as we can! (This is above seasonal, normally it is more like 14C/58F this time of year). We hope to catch up with everyone over the weekend.

Winners?

First, the Man and Hailey are thrilled their team, the Ottawa Senators has made it to the next round of the play offs. Phod is sad his team is out and Lady is just finding all this hockey stuff annoying (it is interfering with the Man making her dinner!)

Now the snow update.

Lady was thrilled that finally the ice has left the lake yay! It looks like a lake!

When she got home last night there was this:

still a little snow in the backyard. Lady would like you all to know she had a dream we got a big snowstorm. Let's hope that doesn't come true.  Sorry to Angel Dory and the Boyz, the 24th is not our true snowless day. Will it all be gone on the 26th for Princess Leah or will Louis win with the 28th?  It is possible Sam and Elsa's 29th could be the winner.

Stay tuned!

Mischief Monday - A Winner and a Very Bad Lady by Lee

First, yesterday afternoon, the Lady programmed all the names of the people who commented on Thursdays post about DIY fences in her Roundom app and the winner is . . . . .

Congratulations Bella, Roxy and Dui! Please email Lady at leeandphodATbellDOTnet to work out getting your prize.

Now the mischief. On Saturday we were so, so excited to be going in the car. So excited that as Lady was getting our stuff ready, Hailey had to pee on one of our blankets that was packed. Lady had to come up with a plan B for a second bed as we needed one where we were going.

Our joy was quickly ended when we arrived at our destination - a new camp. We had to spend a night at a new camp. We had to stay because Lady and Man were going to go to town for a wedding and it was going to be a pain in the butt to come out and care for us. Also they wanted to try this new camp out because we are going to have to use it when Lady goes off adventuring.

Phod peed on a plant in the lobby when we arrived and then when we got to our room, went out in the run and peed on the dog in the next run.
Hard done by Phod

We apparently were good at camp. Phod had one altercation with another dog when the other dog mounted him. They said their pieces and then had a little stand off before sorting it out. Hailey was very shy as always and one time played the "I am free and don't have to go back to my room game" and ran around (all in a safely enclosed area) before reentering her room.

Hard done by Lee

Lady would like to say she had a lot of guilt about leaving us, but thinks we were ok. We might not make her feel too bad except when the Man picked us up, the Lady was not with him. Then when she came home she smelt like this:

While we were in jail, she was off being a traitor. This is Moose. He is 9 weeks old. He was adopted 2 days ago by someone who works with Lady.

We may be able to forgive her for all the traitor stuff because she brought something else home. Come by tomorrow to see what it was!
