Several weeks ago I spoke to the vet about taking Hailey off her anxiety medication, Prozac. It had always been our hope that this would be a temporary solution to her anxiety problem. Our vet said she needed to be on it for at least 6 months before we did anything.
Her 6 months on the drug coincided with our cruise so we decided not to make any medical changes while we were going to be away, and she was going to be at the kennel. We waited until we were back.
We are happy to report that we are now in the weening her off phase. She is taking a lower dosage every other day. We had a thunderstorm about a week and half ago (which is really weird because we still had like 5 feet of snow) and while she was nervous, she was able to hide. This is the best we had seen on the full dosage of meds.
She has another week every other day, then one pill a week for a few weeks. We will see how it goes. Wish her luck!
Good luck Hilary we know you can get there,xx Speedy

Ghostwriter remembers seeing a big snow storm with thunder coming off Lake Erie in Buffalo a long time ago. We hope Hailey does well with the medication changes.
ReplyDeleteWe truly wish Hailey the BEST being able to get along well without the Prozac. Big steps forward for her!

That's wonderful news. Whenever our pets (or us) can be on fewer medications, go for it!

ReplyDeleteAbby had separation anxiety when I first moved to Chicago full time, and was putting in a lot longer days even if I added an extra dog walker visit. I found putting safe for direct application essential oil of lavender on her fur helped a LOT and I came home to find she hadn't chewed something she wasn't supposed to. On nights we have storms I add some to a diffuser that releases the scent in a mist in the room she sleeps in. Paws crossed! So far, so good. We're hoping it continues so she isn't so frightened.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed everything goes okay!
ReplyDeleteWe hope the weaning of the meds go well for Hailey. Mom hates that Ciara has to be on so much medication too for her seizures and hopes that one day we may be able to cut her back too.
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday.

We're glad Hailey is doing well and can get off the medication. Our Zoey is on Prozac, too...she is very fearful of everything it seems.
