Terrifying Thursday

Last week, we had hopefully the last winter storm of the season. It was freezing rain. It was windy. Ice pelted off the windows. The power flickered but was never out more than 10 seconds.

As most of you know, Hailey is afraid of wind and storms. She actually did pretty well. She did demand love and she did stand and shake at times, but because we were both working at home, it never became more.

What you may not know, is Phod is scared of power flickering. If it goes out, he gets very nervous. I am not sure if this is something he has always struggled with, or if living with Hailey made it worse. He is much calmer about his fears. He just wants to be near us.

For example, because I wasn't going for a walk in the freezing rain, while I was on the treadmill, he huddled beside it. (Normally, if he is in the room with me, he is on the couch).

Later, when I was in my office, he huddled in the corner by my desk.

I hope that his fears don't increase and that we have a quiet spring with few thunder and wind storms.

  7. My fursister Q is also afraid of thunder. What makes this even sadder is she lived on a chain until she came to live with us; over 7 years or more!
She is losing her hearing but still feels it.
I on the other hand am not afraid of it but it is usually dancing with a storm which can easily trigger a seizure for me.
Needless to say, we all dislike storms.
Poor Hailey, have you tried a Thundershirt, or DAP. I wonder if lavender essential oil would help keep her calm during storms.
Interesting that Phod is frightened by the power outages.
Do you think he may be concerned for your safety?
We are very sensitive pups we are.
    Stay strong Hailey & Phod💜

  10. Thunderstorms are never fun when you're 4-legged. We'll keep our fingers crossed they are kept to minimum. When Sam gets nervous, I add some lavender oil to his color to calm him down. Works well and of course, the scent is just fabulous-I love a traveling room to room deodorizer. 😇

  13. We are seeing a bit of concern about thunderstorms developing in Misty. We have had a couple of other dogs with those kind of fears so we totally understand. Maybe Phod "hears" something when the lights flicker.

  17. OH NOES! Sorry abouts the storms guys. Hey, have you tried CBD oil? I hear amazing things about it from other doggie parents, and I bets if you email Bentley and Pierre's Moms she can tell you all abouts it. (she is very smart in those kinds of thingies). Ma is gonna try it on me soon, we just needs to make sure it doesn't interfere with my other meds.

  21. Did you see our review of the weighted blanket last week? It really helped Luke a lot in similar circumstances. We got an ice storm too, with wind and sheets of ice falling off our roof. The blanket really kept Luke so much calmer! He as always been afraid when the power goes out too, I think because sometimes things beep when that happens.
