Celebrating Phod's Gotcha Day - The Not Fun Part

The reason were had to be in the city on Saturday was because it was time for Phod's annual check up. Our vet works one Saturday a month and Phod's Gotcha Day happened to be that Saturday.
Can we go now?

We went in for a run at the pit before heading over.

Phod was less nervous than usual. Maybe because he was tired or maybe because the Man and Hailey were there too.

There was some sort of mix up on our appointment time. I am not sure if it was my end or theirs but we showed up 30 minutes early. Fortunately, our vet was able to see us right away.

Phod weighs about the same - 75 lbs. The vet said he looked excellent. His ears look great (he does have issues with ear infections), his teeth are fine, his muscles and conditioning are awesome. The vet gave his back end a close inspection as we have noticed some stiffness sometimes. The vet's guess is he has some arthritis. But given it is just a little stiffness that goes away, he suggests for the time being we do nothing but watch and wait. We can do things like not over exercising him, but that is all. If we notice he is really suffering we will take a more serious look at this.

Phod was a champ at getting his shots. Hailey was very helpful trying to push Phod away so she could get the cookies the vet had in his hands. It was amusing.

The pictures from yesterday were the 2 of them sharing the seat. When we got close to the city, Hailey pushed Phod off the seat. Phod wanted to see so he got back on and stood over her. After the vet (not pictured) Phod took up the whole back seat and Lee sat on the floor. They were happy, no one was sick, so it worked for me!

I think despite the trip to the vet, Phod had a great Gotcha Day!

  1. Phod I'm glad the vet had good news... maybe you can eat some supplements what help your back to chase away that arthur it is? or that chewing bones what contain good stuff for the bones and joints?

  4. Congrats on a good report. Just a simple suggestion if you are concerned about joint health research bone broth. Easy and fairly inexpensive to make. We freeze ours into ice cubes for storage and because Katy thinks she's getting a frozen treat. You can serve in liquid form, too. Bailey tested the first batch that way and licked the bowl clean.

I only wish I'd known about it when he first started to have joint problems.

  8. We're glad to hear the vet gave you good marks on your health. At least you got to eat treats while they were poking and prodding you.

  11. Compared to some other trips we'd say it was a huge success! Did the wet suggest any supplements for Phod? Like glucosamine or something?

  12. Great visit to the vet! Mom and I recommend Dasuquin supplements (Mom gets mine from Amazon) for Phod's joints. Our vet said my brother Riley is predisposed to hip displasia, and to give him the Dasuquin now, before any problems start.

  18. I get treats every day with glucosamine that help my arthritis. Maybe it would help Phod too?

  24. So glad your Gotcha Day was good Phod! Having to go to the doctor isn't all that great BUT it sounds like you did well so you can just put that behind you until NEXT year's checkup.

    Love, Sammy

  25. 3 bum swings! 3 more!

Sounds like a great Gotcha Day present; a clean bill of health.
Imagine that Hailey trying to steal your well earned cookie.

Take care of that back end Phod, no over doing it. Maybe play hard in the water; less impact on the joints.
My bro Mickey Moo Man who now watches us from the Rainbow Bridge was a big boy like you & he had some issue with his back end in the last couple of years. He took Alpha Omega EZ Mobility (helped with the pain & stiffness) & later SA Recovery. He loved both of these products purchased at our favourite store or Vet clinic.

    Stay strong Phod!

  27. Happy Gotcha Day, Phod. I'm sorry about the vet visit but your parents take great care of you.

R has an even worse story. On the day of his FIRST birthday, he had his first elbow surgery. I think he's been afraid of his birthday ever since.

I hope that the rest of your day was GREAT.

  28. That's too bad that Phod may have Arthur-itis. That can be really painful. I hope that it doesn't get any worse. I'm also glad that you otherwise seemed to have had a wonderful Gotcha Day!
