No one is surprised that the person who couldn't get organized enough to participate in the Sadie Hawkins dance, didn't realize until too late yesterday that October 1 was National Black Dog Day. (We punished her by rolling in poop yesterday and then giving her the evil eye for cleaning it off of us and not letting us roll it all over her bed).
Better to celebrate late than never!
Black dogs are the last to get adopted. It may be that they don't photograph as well or that they look scarier. Either way, more black dogs are left behind then any other colour. Let's work to end the stigma toward black dogs and get to know a dog before we judge it by its breed or colour.
Happy Belated National Black Dog Day!
IT's sad about black dogs AND cats who are the last to be adopted......we think that's nuts because our color has nothing to do with how adorable, sweet and lovable we are!

Momma had about a million black dogs when she was little. She loves them. She said she doesn't know how she ended up with all these brown ones now!

ReplyDeleteOur Miss Ginger Angel was black with tan points. She was a real princess too. She would have loved a day just for her!

Dogs, too? I knew black cats have a hard time finding forever homes, but I didn't realize dogs did, too. Makes absolutely no sense in either case.
ReplyDeleteHailey is adorable!
We have never understood that about black dogs, but we do understand they are harder to take pictures of....sometimes we just blend right into the background. We think people should get smarter and adopt no matter what..............stooopids...........stella rose
ReplyDeleteWay to make mom pay - rolling in poop! BOL! Seriously, we don't get it either about the black dogs.
ReplyDeleteHailey you are lucky that your mom doesn't buy into that either

Well, we didn't celebrate Black Dog Day either, though we have black dog everyday. A few years ago in the US, SHE saw an ad for black dogs who needed homes and read about the prejudice against them. Coming from a black scottie background, SHE was amazed.
ReplyDeleteShe is so pretty! <3
ReplyDeleteHi hi hi! Ojo here! We did not know that either! Happy Black Dog Day, Cousin Lee! I am glad we both got adopted, regardless of our (fabulous) colouring!
ReplyDeleteShe's so pretty!
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated Black Dog Day!
ReplyDeleteYou're beautiful, Hailey! Your mom knows how to take good photos of you... but it's actually your warm and wonderful heart that matters the most, just like in all dogs!
ReplyDeleteHappy Black Dog Day!
We think you are a beautiful black dog Hailey!! Happy Belated Black Dog Day!!\

PeeEss-Good job on getting your Mama back!
To celebrate black dog day, I'd like to point out that black pugs shed less than fawn pugs. I've no idea why.
