The Drawback of Spring, Summer and Fall for Hailey

Spring has officially sprung. The wildlife is back. The snow is gone. The grass has turned green. The cottagers (aka city-iots - city idiots) are back. In our municipality there are about 11 000 permanent residents and 10 000 cottagers.
Look at poor LeeLee's stance

I am not sure how, but Hailey remembers that the good weather and the city-iots means that fireworks are back. Saturday night we were sitting outside enjoying the beautiful evening and she was clearly nervous. She didn't want to be outside. She didn't want to leave the deck. She stood at high alert, while Phod pupped around happy and playing.

I know it is a time of day thing because earlier in the day Hailey was very happy to be out on her tie out while I did yard work and later, before dinner . She was happy to be out sniffing and digging and rolling.

As the evening progressed,  she got more anxious. I applied some essential oils from doTERRA for the first time (I will have blog post about this product in a few weeks). She spent the evening hiding. She was very tense when Man took her out before bed and would not pee. She hid in our closet. She was right to be nervous because shortly after 10 the fireworks started. She went to the basement to hide.

I guess the one advantage of the winter is Hailey is not as anxious.

  1. My in-laws live in the north woods in Wisconsin and they are also surrounded by weekenders (same as cottagers). Although the tourists are good for businesses in their area, it gets a bit much. Lots of fireworks being set off across the river from them.

  2. Fireworks?!! Don't they have dogs, themselves? Poor Hailey, hope it's not too bad this summer.

  3. Is there a special howl-i-day that they have fireworks? Or is it just for fun and to enjoy noises to feel like in the city for your cottagers? Hailey, you can stay with me in my closet if you want...to use a bomb shelter together is more fun than to sit there alone :o)

  4. Poor Hailey! Why are their fireworks going all the time? Can you report them??

  5. We know exactly what you mean! We used to go on vacation to a quiet cabin in the woods, where we enjoyed the bird songs and the sound of the river burbling by. Some of the neighbors had absolutely no respect for being quiet and all their noise echoed down the whole valley! Noisy radios, firecrackers, yelling and shouting like crazy! What's wrong with people these days?

Fireworks??!!! (splutters and mutters....) Just stay ducked Hailey dog - but not fearfully, darlin', just sensibly... hope Lady's oils help you. Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  7. If we live to be 100 we'll never understand the fascination with fireworks. They are so dangerous and just plain silly. I'm sorry sweet Hailey...I don't like loud noises either
    Madi your bfff

  8. We wish all fireworks were illegal even though we are not bothered by them.

    Your Pals,

    Murphy & Stanley

  9. WE can certainly understand LeeLee's reaction to those LOUD BANGS.... We are SOOOOOO sorry that you went from WINTER to IDIOT Season...

  10. Oh no! I'm so sorry for Hailey. Zoe is terrified of fireworks, too! :(

  11. Oh boy.....Jakey isn't fond of firework season either!

  12. Aww this makes me very sad for her. I hate loud noises too.

    Aroo to you,

  13. So sad. I feel sure you've tried everything but I have to mention a thundershirt (I bet I mentioned last year too - so I apologize if I'm repeating myself!). We've had good luck with it for fears.

We have city idiots here too! We see them as a huge disadvantage to summer, just like you. They fire guns all the time so Hailey wouldn't like it here either.

  14. Yes, it is finally Spring, I don't think my huskies are too thrilled though ;)
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!

  15. we hate fireworks too!!! go away fireworks!

  16. Dat stinks bout da fireworks. Dey don't bother me, but I know most pupses don't like em.

  17. We're sorry to hear Miss Hailey is so anxious. We are lucky that those sounds don't bother either of us.

  18. Bless her heart......hope the essential oils helped a bit?

    Hugs, sammy

  19. That really stinks. Can the town do something about it? Such as banning fireworks?

It makes me angry when the fireworks start around me too. Thankfully my guys aren't too anxious, but it's not just dogs that don't like those loud noises. Some veterans have PTSD and I wish folks in charge could explain that to the idiots.

  20. Dear Ojo's Cousin Lee,

You are smart. You are clever. You will not forget that icky terrible horrible fireworks happen! But I am sorry that it makes you scared on nice evenings!

Pee Ess In addition to smart and clever, you and Phod are indeed beautiful and handsome too, just like us. See, we must be related as you say!

  21. Greetings! Very helpful advice in this particular post! It is the little changes that produce the largest changes. Many thanks for sharing!
