Mischief Monday - A hunting we will go

Since we had to say goodbye to Junior, we have been more cautious with Hailey in the yard. She is always tied up or on leash (ok, except when the 4 year old let her out on the weekend, but the Man was able to catch her before she did any damage).

This does not stop our girl from trying to hunt.

You see, we are aware of at least 3 groundhogs living within view of the house. Goldbie, who has been around since we moved in and may be the mom. Lazarus, who we talked about last week, and one who is bigger than Lazarus and smaller than Goldbie, we call Slinky.

One of them or another groundhog has a hole in the front yard in the bush.

When Hailey is on her tie out, she can reach the bush but not the hole. In her attempts to get to the hole (which is behind the tree), here is some of what she has done:

Stripped the bark off this dead tree and dug an anger hole in front of it!

She is very proud of her work!

If this keeps her busy and the wildlife safe, let her dig!

  3. She is a practical thinking dog... and very clever. It's not easy to have wildlife around and a dog who loves to hunt. we have a hedgehog in our back yard and I don't know if Easy will ever learn that this guy is "armed"...

  5. Our little bunny seems to have moved on, and the pugs never even seemed to notice he was there, except when he left some bunny pellets in their yard

  13. Hailey figures that groundhog should be taken care of and that is not in a healthy way. I cannot say a thing for I deaded a chipmunk this week. Yep he was a stupid chipmunk. I was just resting on my porch and he did not see me. It was a snatch 'n' grab and toss.
Thanks for stopping by my blog

  19. Yes, digging holes and stripping bark definitely seems preferable! That's actually everyday activity around here, with no groundhogs involved! :)
