Early this spring I won a K9 Kelp (http://www.k9kelp.ca) prize package from http://ownedbyahusky.blogspot.ca. One of the products we won was the conditioning kelp spray. It says on the bottle it is a repellant, so Saturday night we gave it a try.
The results:
The areas that the dogs were covered (it is still really hard to spray it on them, they act as if we are beating them) the bugs didn't land. I then watched where the bugs were landing, sprayed more on those spots, the bugs stayed off. It was excellent!
I can't say how long the effects last as the dogs were only out for about 45 minutes but it was 45 minutes of comfort.
I give it 4 paws up and plan on keeping some around for a safe bug repellant!
A mad Hailey refusing to look because she is either mad I sprayed her in the first place or mad it actually worked! |
Sounds like a good solution and maybe Lee & Phod will get use to being sprayed in time. Have a terrific Tuesday.

Our big sister brought us overs some natural spray for us to try also, but we haven't had the chance yet, sometimes wesa pups just gottta get mad at our humans so we will get more love and guilt treats that way. I don't fink we have black flies but we have tiny gnats that bite real big.

We have trouble with mosquitoes and biting flies around here. Maybe we should give that spray a try.
ReplyDeleteOH DEAR BUGS LOVE MY MOM. WAY BACK WHEN (38 YRS) WHEN THE FAMILY WAS OWNED BY TOTO THE MIGHTY MINI DOXIE MOM TOLD ME THE ONLY FLEA PROTECTION WAS A COLLAR AND IT WAS NOT VERY EFFECTIVE. SHE SAID FLEAS JUMPED OFF TOTO ONTO HER. SHE HAS SINCE LEARNED BUGS LIKT SKEETERS AND FLEAS ARE ATTRACTED TO O+ BLOOD TYPE. SOME HOW THEY SMELL IT. I GUESS O+ REALLY IS THE UNIVERSAL DONOR TO BUGS AND HUMANS

I'm glad we don't have a problem with the flies but if we did we'd sure get some of that spray!

I hope for a bug and fly free summer for your pups. the spray is noted on our "first-aid-list", who knows what the summer (if we get one) will bring :o) So NO tasty tuesday for the flies today - good thing!
ReplyDeleteWe bought some stuff called "Buss Barrier" for Reilly - he gets bitten by mosquito's (even though his fur is long it is quite thin) I found it easier to spray it on a cloth and then rub it on him - he doesn't like the spray either - makes him sneeze
ReplyDeleteOh that would be terrible! We are lucky cuz it is so dry here we don't have many bugs.

Maybe you can spray it on a towel and wipe it on them.
ReplyDeleteAroo to you,

Haha sounds just like Shiner. She absolutely hates being sprayed with anything.
