How New Year's Eve really went in our house

We stayed in. The Man and I played video games. The Man made stovetop s'mores with chocolate that had gone bad (chocolate rarely lasts long enough in our house to go bad), so I couldn't eat them.

The Man went to bed at 10, I read until 11.

The party started at 12:08 when Hailey was desperate to get out of the bedroom. Someone was blasting fireworks. I don't understand who would be out in -30 C (-15 F) with fireworks, but someone was. The fireworks lasted about 20 minutes. The Man got up and put Hailey in her "safe room" in the closet. This helps her calm down.

About 12:20, I heard something that sounded like someone walking on the deck. The Man got up to check. There was nothing there (and the deck has like 2 feet of snow on it so it is unlikely anyone could walk on the deck).

The Man went back to sleep and I laid there, with her over active imagination and heart racing until about 1:30.

Then because I haven't been out of routine, I have been lax taking my potassium and woke up with  a charlie horse.

I really hope this doesn't sent the tone for the entire year!

Happy New Year!

  1. I am always thankful both of my boys have never taken any notice of fireworks...ever Denny who is scared of everything else he still sleeps through them.

  2. There were lots of fireworks going off in our neighborhood but none too close to the house so the cats weren't too scared. I did manage to stay awake and see the ball drop in Times Square! Woo hoo Happy Mew Year

  3. Church Bells, fireworks until the sound of BIG BEN on tv drowned out all the noise outside.

  4. Fireworks don't seem to bother me but I know they are terrifying for some dogs. Poor dear...I'm glad there is a "safe room" in your house. Maybe you should make a bigger safe room so you can hide from the things that go bump in the night too.
Here's to a happy New Year!

  5. My boys don't like fireworks. But I fell asleep before midnight, so not sure if there was fireworks nearby.

  6. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

It was super chilly here, too. I stayed in and napped and snacked. An EXCELLENT way to bring in the New Year, for sure.

  7. Well first of all BOO HISSS at the guy who set off the fireworks and let that go on for twenty minutes. Not EVERYONE enjoys those things Mister!! I'd be a nervous wreck too and have to hide in the closet or basement. We didn't have any "bad chocolate smores" around here though - so that's a bonus point on OUR side! We're having our big meal tonight and I've been told there will be plenty of ham for "THE BIRTHDAY BOY" (me) to have some so I'm rather pleased about that!

HAPPY NEW YEAR and Hailey - you look BOOOOOTIFUL in your pawty dress! Looks like you all had some fun last night!

    Hugs, Sammy

  11. We had soooo many fireworks. Although I'm ok with them, I refused to go out for a wee while they were going off, and instead opted to cuddle with mummy and daddy.
hope your year gets better xxx

  23. Ugh...fireworks. They aren't so bad - its the effect on the sheepdog down the street that howls forever after they go off. I hope your house had a mellow day and everyone is happy to start a new year!
