Feline Friday - While the people are away . . . . . .

the cats peed everywhere.

Ok that is an exaggeration but they did pee on the floor a lot according to the person who checked on them and they used one of the dog beds as a litter box. They were mad.

It was a tough decision what to do with them during our trip. The cats are old. Since I won't vaccinate them, I couldn't board them. I also thought that boarding 18 + year old cats who have never been boarded would be very stressful. I looked at hiring a cat sitter but because we live way, way in the country, no one would come. Aunt C offered to take them, but I thought that them living with 2 other younger cats may be too stressful. In the end, we asked the neighbour to check on them. She was happy to do this, even if they peed everywhere!

While I know they missed us, I do believe it was the least stressful of all our options. They had plenty to eat and lots of water and clean litter and their house.

Everyone is just glad they both lived while we were away!

Baggy eating soft food, the one part of his routine he didn't get while we were away!

  1. Guess that was their way of protesting about being left but we agree that was the best option.

  4. Old paws do get stressed out at the slightest of things. If we go out and about, Frankie de tabby is always at the door to meet me.

  6. It's tough especially when they are that old. We noticed your new header yesterday and thought it looked very nice.

  7. Like you, I don't board my cats. As you said, it's stressful enough that we're gone ... it's nice for them that they get to sleep in our bed, etc. rather than a strange cage.

Cats are funny ... they let you know when they are mad :)

  10. We think they were just letting you know that they are pissed off at missing the Grand Cayman holiday!!!

Our cat cousins--that we've pruned off our family tree--sometimes stand in the litter and poo over the side on the floor.

  11. Oh we cats have our ways of getting the "that will teach you to leave us" message across!! I'm glad yours were still waiting for you and no doubt they're already going back to their usual behaviors....all is forgiven??????

  12. I think you definitely did the best thing for them. I've taken care of other people's cats before and one of them always did the same thing when he was left. Our older cat won't use the litter box to poop even when we're home....we've tried everything and he's been checked out by the vet too. Old cats will do what they're going to do! LOL

  13. Best thing, change is not good for older pets, you being gone was enough stress!

Hey we go off if they are gone overnight!

  14. That was your best option as it is not easy to upset the balance in the life of 18+ year old cats.

  15. We have friends whose cats do exactly the same thing when our friends are away... Our friends always blame the people who are coming over to feed and care for the cats but it sounds as if it may be inevitable. I hope you've been able to get rid of the smell!

  17. Wow- your new header is awsome! Very cool!
You loved your kit kats so much that is why you opted to let them stay in the house. It was best to keep those kittys happy- and you did that! What wonderful pawrents you are!
