Phod's back in business

After 8 weeks of rest, Phod is now able to play ball and disc and to swim again. Last Wednesday we reintroduced ball. I kept the session short, but he was so thrilled! I was thrilled there was no limp. He had a short session Thursday. Rest on Friday. He got to play disc on Saturday. A little ball Sunday. He and the Man went for a swim on Monday. All with no limp. YAY!  We are still suppose to be taking it easy and not over doing it, but it looks like his leg is all better.

On the Hailey front, I have decided to start with the behaviourist. Woody said part of the treatment would likely include drugs. I don't like the idea of drugging her (and please note this is not a judgement on what other people have done). I would like to explore all options first and discuss side effects etc. If we pick to do this, I want to do it smart. I am interested in what a behaviourist will say. It is the field I have trained in, I am just trained with a human population. I have realized she is afraid of: new people, children, wind, thunder, fireworks, loud noises, the dark. That is a lot to be afraid of! I hope we can get this process running soon!

  1. Good to hear phod is doing well....we have Denny on clomicalm (he had a severe reaction to a flea treatment that affected him neurologically and the meds help him not be so terrified of everything - no side affects, he isn't sleepy or anything - they just help him cope better)

  2. Horses for courses as they say but we agree with you. Meds can wait as a last option. Maybe just desensitising Lee to those situations will help somewhat. Look forward to hearing all about it. Have a terrific Tuesday.
    Best wishes Molly

  6. How wonderful that Phod can play again! I know he was miserable not being able to do all the fun things he loves to do. YAY! As for Hailey - we're happy you're going to talk to the behaviorist and hope they have some ideas to help with Hailey's fears. I sent her surprise package from the contest today so maybe that will cheer her up too!!! ;)

  8. So glad the leg is better! It was the worst days of my life when I could not play ball! We also hope things go well with the behaviorist. Fear is a terrible thing!

  9. Yay for Phod and best of luck with Hailey. I am with you about drugs. I think meeting with a behaviorist is a good idea and use drugs as the last option.

  10. Oh we are so glad that phod is doing better and back to chasing that ball...guess what margaret enjoys a good round of running after this squishy ball when mom throws it for her, she must not understand that she is a pug and meant to be pampered and on the lap, not running all over the yard, we sure hope the behaviorist helps hailey. Mom is wondering how Margarets first class will go tonight, with all the hubbub of other people and dogs, ....

  16. Yay for Phod!!!!

And, it sounds like you are facing similar challenges with Hailey as I've faced with Shyla. She's been with me for almost a year, and she's greatly improved by using a technique called BAT (and working extensively with a great trainer). I hope that you can find the best way forward. I know it's not an easy road... but it is so rewarding.
