Last week we were all sitting downstairs enjoying our shows while a thunderstorm raged outside.
Suddenly there was a flash of lightning and a huge bang which causes us all to jump as we were plunged into darkness.
From the sound, it was clear something behind our house had been hit by lightning. If you have never experienced that type of bang, just know it is something. Man checked for fire out the window and checked with Callie's people who were also in the dark. It turned out it was just our house and their house that had no power. Valium was passed out in our house and then we went to bed.
At about 4:15 am, our yard was illuminated with headlights and men walking around with flashlights. We barked, a lot. Callie's people said they could hear us. Lady and Man weren't angry because it is our job to bark at strangers in the yard in the middle of the night, even if it is the Hydro crew.
About 20 minutes later, the power was restored and instead of calming us, some of us, who are brown and a boy, were very stressed and paced around for an hour. Needless to say we were all a little tired that day, and grateful to have the power back on and that there was no serious damage from the lightning.

ReplyDeletePhew... thanks for the dramatic re-enactment, that really brought us into the scene with you! Phoddy, you were just on high alert from all that, right? Adrenaline does give one the jitters. Hope that was a once only strike. Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
who knew that a big bang and dark times could be so entertaining and make me laugh out loud. I am loving the story and the illustrations. i know it was scary for you but it did start my day with smiles because i knew the story had a happy ending. we have heard those bangs and know about the dark.
ReplyDeleteThat is one of the most exciting, most scary, adventure stories I have ever read! Kudos to the author/illustrator!
ReplyDeleteThat does sound like a scary night. We've had some of those super loud bangs that shake the house here too. Luckily for us it hasn't knocked out our power {{touch wood}}.
ReplyDeleteOh no dear sweet Phod, Lee, Lady and Man you all have my sympathy.
ReplyDeleteWe had lightning strike our cable into tv in our first home and in this home it struck the phone cable on the outside of the house many years ago. Singed the carpet and we call the fire department to check on things.
S C A R Y for sure valium was a good idea.
Hugs Cecilia
How scary. We are so happy that you didn't have to wait forever to have your power restored!
ReplyDeleteWow! We've never had an experience like that, although GW and Dad have an ancient story about being inside a movie theater watching a Star Wars movie when a small tornado passed by. (They thought all the noise was from the movie, until the lights went out!) Hope things calm down with you doggies, and glad the power is back.
ReplyDeletePS I meant to tell you to give your art department a raise!!

Around here people are little up tight about thunderstorms and with no rain.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
Oh I HATES when that happens!!!!! Last time the powers went out, Ma gots her battery powered fan, and put it near me, and I totally calmed down. Maybe your peeps can gets one, or a battery powered noise machine (she has one of those too!), and maybe it would help at least a little. I gets you Phod. 😙
ReplyDeleteKisses,
Ruby ♥
Power cuts accompanied with loud bangs upset uprights too, Phod. We hope everyone is calm now and there are no more 'chats' with Mother Nature for a while.
ReplyDeleteWow, that was an exciting recreation!! I'm glad that you two did your jobs and barked fiercely at tha crew.
ReplyDeleteThat must have been a scary time for all. We are glad the power is back and we hope you all had a better night's sleep.
