I Couldn't Believe It

I was window shopping in Winners (think Marshalls or TJ Max American friends, as they are owned by the same parent company) last weekend before seeing a movie. As always, I spent some time in the pet section.

There I spotted this cute little couch for a furry friend. I thought my spoiled dogs may love that.

Then I looked at the price tag. I should have taken a picture of it. This cute little couch was $225 Canadian dollars before tax. Marked down from $350. The ticket price was about $180 US, $230 Australian Dollars, or $152 Euros! I could not believe it.

Needless to say that I didn't purchase this couch. For that kind of money I could almost buy them a human sized one!

Would you spend that much on a pet bed?

I have often been appalled at the price of things for our companion animals and, indeed, our little-mes... commercialism gone completely crazy. Pets don't know that couch is special. What makes our couches special to them is firstly that we sit on them and secondly it is about dominance behaviour. "See I got one up on you!". Those items are for the owners' vanities and the pets couldn't give a paw. Jade got old towels and blankets from the op shop. This meant three-monthly 'new stuff' full of sniffs and freshness and I didn't have to fret whether there was food or anything else getting on there! YAM xx

  2. I probably wouldn't .... I would give everything for Phenny, but I know what he will do... even when I would leave the price tag on this fabulous couch... the couch would turn into an ouch...

  3. K10,
I can assure you Madi would snub anything labeled as a pet bed. She has several very soft ones scattered about but she sleeps on the furniture labeled human. She loves the queen sleep # bed! LOL

  4. Gail says that for that kind of money she'd at the very least want a bed in a colour that didn't show muddy paw marks.

  5. If Mommy had more money than sense...she says there are LOADS of things like that she would get. But, Mommy has to work to keep me in Cat Food and a roof over our heads so I won't be getting something like that anytime soon.

  6. That's pretty fancy! I'd be afraid I'd get muddy paw prints all over it.

  7. Mom says that I'm totally worth it but it's a tad bit out of her price range.

  8. WOW!!! That looks like the PAWFECT dog bed!!!! My humom would have been very tempted to buy it but considering I sleep on her bed and my fursister still sleeps in her crate, she would have passed...for now. BOL! Maybe if she won the lottery and had some extra green papers to spare she would consider it!

  9. No, not at that price. My guys like my bed and the real furniture any way.

  10. Well that is a really adorable dog bed BUTTT that's a bit much to pay we think. For that money you could buy a baby bed mattress and put a cute cover on it and call it a dog bed!!!! HAHAHAHA

  11. No...we don't like doggy beds much. We prefer the floor or furniture. SHE says no way would SHE buy a white couch anyway.

  12. Nope, the mom would never spend that much...because she would get it home and we wouldn't use it!

  13. Not here, because Mom knows we might not even sleep on it:) We have some very inexpensive but nice Wash 'n Zip beds that Mom got for when Ciara would "lose control" during a seizure. The whole bed goes in the wash and comes out looking like new. The only problem we have now is that SomePup still thinks they are just like the peepads his breeder used before he came to us - totally housebroken except if those beds are available. So that would be one more reason that fancy Winners bed would never find its way here.

  14. Mom loves me very much, but NO. That is WAAAAY out of the price range for a doggie sofa. I'll use the regular, human sofa, thank you very much.

  16. Years ago when we had our Golden Retriever, we found a couch similar to that at PetSmart on clearance. We bought it for around $75. It was one of the best we've ever owned.

  17. Nope - too out of our budget. Today mom bought me a nice new cozy crate pad for $10

  18. Ma says hell NO! Okays, so she DID spend 95 dollars on my memory foam bed with denim cover, butts it was my second one, and the furst one lasted five years, so she thought the price was well worth it. I agree. I loves it, and in a year or two Ma will fork out another 95, cause they are very high quality ones. I do likes that one though....you thinks if we all go in on it, we can convince these peeps to buy it for all of us and share it??? ☺

  19. OMD...We are lucky if Mama spends $25USD on our doggy beds. Mostly we sleep on the human couch and bed anyways ;-)

  20. Since Mama works with Snoozer Pet Products, we have some pretty nice beds that will probably last a good long while! But yes, we think that is a bit too much for our budget!!

  21. In a word. No. Not because I wouldn't want to though. Wow, that's quite some bed.

  22. Mine have pillows and blankets all over the house. They also have access to our sofas, chairs and beds, so they're comfy without expensive dog beds that probably wouldn't be used.
