Tasty Tuesday - The Princess

Those who know Lady well call her a princess (and she is totally ok with that). Recently the Man has said that Zaphod has taken the princess crown from the Lady.

It started when it appeared he was getting stomach cramps when eating. We decided to try a raised dish with him. Instead of buying a fancy dish, we just used a stool we had.

This is a stool we bought just for him later as we needed our stool back

Apparently the princess doesn't like his breakfast on the stool. In fact, in the mornings he now won't start eating until Lady sits with him and hand feeds him some. His preference is to be laying down to eat. After a few pieces he will eat on his own.

Breakfast is served
Dinner, he will try and hold out for a hand feeding, but as we have more time we will either wait for him to eat from the stool (sometimes he will) or put his food in front of it.

Phod has his annual check up in a few weeks and we will discuss this with the vet as it is strange.

Do any of your pets have weird eating habits?

Update: The princess got a new food this morning and happily ate it up. We will see how long this lasts.

  1. maybe you can buy such a food stand where you can change the height of the bowl? Phenny has such a thingy but he always removes the bowls to play bowl-ing... even when there is water inside ;o(

  2. When I had my poorly paw earlier in the year, I just wanted to lie on my bed and be hand fed. Princess Phod, I do hope your annual vet check up goes well and nothing is badly wrong.

  8. The things we do for our fur-kids to keep them safe, healthy, and happy. The saying in my husband's family when he was growing up was, "When Mom's happy, everyone's happy!" But as a parent, I find that I'm happiest when my family is well and happy and I will do whatever I need to (and usually do it happily) to keep them well & happy. Sounds like you've been having some rough times lately, hope all is well soon.

  9. As long as he has a good appetite we wouldn't think it is anything other than personal preference to enjoy dinner with his human.

  10. OMD, Phod, I did that as a wee lass! Yuppers, wouldn't eats my kibbles unless Moms or Gpa hand fed me furst..then I would start eating on my own. If Ma didn't hand feed me the kibbles, I would bark and bark at my food, and even toss it around! BOL! Nows, I can't waits for the lazy Ma to do it ~ I just gobble it up! It drove Ma nuts, butts she knew I needed to eats, so she would hand feed me. Ma doesn't knows why I did this, butts as long as you are eating enough, maybe it's genius to gets some alone time with the Lady! BOL
    Kisses,
    Ruby ♥

  11. Bwahaahaahaa! He's training you well. In our house, our snouts go into the dish and don't come out until the bowl is well and truly clean. However, at times Dui tries to be a 'princess', too.

  12. Does he eat fast? Both of us do. Lightning has a heavy ball in his bowl to slow him down and Misty has a slow feeder divided bowl. Both work well. We sometimes have to have a small heavy bowl turned upside down in our raised water bowls because Misty drinks too fast and then loses everything when she has a big burp.

  17. We sure hope nothing is out of sorts physically with Princess Phod. Our mom says that one of our Angel Sisters was a picky eater her whole life and often required hand feeding so you are not alone. BTW she was a GSD too.

  18. Well there isn't any eating issues here. We see food, we eat it. My dad or my mom hold my bowl for me. That's not weird is it?

  19. OMD Phod - you and Hazel have been talking. Just when we think we have found a kibble topper that will get her to eat without being coaxed and she changes her mind

  20. The poodles love their meals. Sam used to free-feed all day long, never finishing a meal until hours later. That is until Elsa came along. Little Ms. Hoover has 'inspired' him to eat his meals now before she does.

  21. Crikey Princess Phod ...... I'd refuse to eat too if I could be hand fed by my Mum. Matter of fact she likes me to eat yoghurt occasionally but the only way I'll eat it is off a spoon so she hand feeds me my yoghurt. I love it. I hope you tummy troubles go away soon.

  22. Dogs get as bored with their food as we would if we ate the same thing every day. Phod was just communicating that the best he could. Here's hoping he continues to eat well and nothing else is wrong.

  23. Jessie can be a bit of a princess at meal time. Momma mostly indulges her because her kidney problems make her not want to eat sometimes. But sometimes she'll just STARE at her food without eating it, until Momma gives in and adds an egg or something yummy on top.
